Populating a DropDown ListBox from an Enum

I have this simple Enum defined:

    public enum Grade : byte
      Up = 1,
      Down = 2,
      Flat = 4

I've tried using it to populate a DropDown ListBox like this:

    ddList.DataSource = Enum.GetValues(typeof(Constants.Grade));

The problem is that BOTH the Text and the Value of each ListItem ends up with the text string.  What I want, of course, is for each ListItem's Value property to be populated with the numeric value.

Is there a simple way to do this?

Populating a ListBox with values from an object ??????

I have a myClass with 2 fields:

private Int16 samAdresse = -1;

private commonThings.enTilstand skiftTilTilstand = commonThings.enTilstand.ingenMening;

Instances of this class I store in a List<myClass> myList

ListBox tricky to set in a DataGrid/GridView

Listboxes are very tricky to set selected items in grid - there is no real nice way to do it. It would have been great if Microsoft included a property that accepts an array or comma separated values - or anything! But they only allow each item in the list to be selected individually. The way to do this in a grid is a bit messy, but it is fairly simple to implement. When a row is created (as per the event), select the items of the listbox as per the datagrid source data:

Response.Redirect slow

I'm in the middle of migrating servers and on the new server Response.Redirect is extremely slow. It takes around 20 seconds for the browser to get the redirect. This is something that was quick on the existing server. It's an ASP.NET 2.0 application, both servers are running IIS6.

Additionally, if I "manually" do the redirect, it's fast. For example:

Existing way:

takes around 20 seconds on the new server

New way:

Response.Status = "302 Moved Temporarily";
Response.AddHeader("Location", url);

is fast on the new server.

Any ideas why Response.Redirect would be so slow on the new server?

VS 2010 Pro is slow

I was wondering if anybody else is finding VS 2010 extremely slow loading a solution - and it pretty much renders the rest of the machine useless until loaded. Everything is slowed to a halt.

I upgraded from VS 2005 - now I think I made a terrible mistake. I cannot afford to try and load 2 solutions simultaneously.

The machine is a Core2 Duo E8400, 3GB of RAM, WinXP SP3. Max I can go to is 4GB. Would upgrading to a 64-bit OS really be worth it (actually only to get 8GB of RAM)?

I'm hoping someone else has found a solution to this particular problem.

Populating Dropdown List using FK

Hi Folks,

2 Questions. I am trying out Data Entities in VWD 2010 Express. I have a parent (Customers) and child (Orders) table. Customers table has FirstName, LastName and Email columns.

Q1. When I view/edit/insert an Order, it shows the customer's first name in dropdown list whereas I want the full name. How can this be done?

Q2. How can I change the default behavior of PK/FK relationship so that customer's Email is displayed instead of Name?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control

Hi All,

I am trying to persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control. Here are the details

I have a user control which contains a a listBox and button. On Page_Load of user control I am populating the ListBox control with some values. On Click of button, I am trying to fetch the values which I have selected in ListBox. Though this seems very simple and straight forward I am unable to fetch values.

My Page_Load Function

void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

My Click Function

Protected Void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

       string strValue = listBox.SelectedValue

I have placed brake point at Page_Load and on click function, I am seeing that the moment the breakpoin

ActiveX and Visual Basic: Enhance the Display of Long Text Strings in a Combobox or Listbox

The combobox and listbox controls in Visual Basic have no built-in support for displaying text strings that are too long to fit in the visible area of either control. This article describes several techniques to improve the readability of long strings in each control. The first technique uses tooltips to display a combobox or listbox item. The other techniques, which use various Windows APIs, include adding a horizontal scrollbar for a listbox and determining the necessary width of the longest string given the font attributes of the text. The required steps are described for both comboboxes and listboxes.

setting scroll position for a ListBox

I have a ListBox control showing 10 rows.  I have 30 rows total in the listbox.  How do I programmatically adjust the scroll to show the last ten rows?

Some sources have suggested that I set the SelectedItem.  But I am already making selections (myListBox.Items[28].Selected = true, myListBox.Items[29].Selected = true, etc); the listbox scroll is positioned on Item[0] not the first selected item.  I have also tried setting myListBox.SelectedItem in addition to the multiple selection just mentioned but that does not have any affect either.

Populating a list box in InfoPath from a sql stored proc

I have an InfoPath web enabled form that gets published to a SharePoint site.  I need to add a list box to the form that gets populated with data returned from an existing call to a SQL Stored Proc.

As the form works now, the user types in a patient id #, then clicks a button that calls the Stored Proc and returns any patients that match the given patient ID.  This part works.

My task is to add a list box so that if more than one patient is returned , display the list box with all of these patients populated in it.

I am hoping to do this within the confines of the existing code.  The existing code looks like this:

private bool LoadPatientInformationFromDB(string patientId, string patientFirstName,
      string patientLastName, string patientMiddleInitial, string birthDate, string gender,
        string admitDate, string location)
      bool completed = false;
      //Load from DB
      SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(GetOrderSetDBConnectionString());
      //Create Form Builder
      formBuilder = new FormBuilder();
      SqlDataAdapter adpt = null;
        if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(patientId) || !String.IsNullOrEmpty(patientFirstName) ||
          !String.IsNullOrEmpty(patientLastName) || !String.IsNullOrEmpty(patientMiddleInitial)
          || !St

Slow page load during a list query one time during the day

We have a monitoring tool set to check to see if the home pages for our 3 web apps load in under 60 seconds every 10 minutes.  All 3 web apps load in under 3 seconds on every 10 minute check except for one exception.  One check every day one of the web app's home page takes longer than 60 seconds to load.  This happens at 11:45PM when there is very little user usage on the environment.  The characteristics of this page are as follows: The only thing on the page is a list view web part which was added by the browser.  The page has not been customized with SPD or code at all.  The list that it pulls is a simple links list that has 281 items on it.  The view pulls all 281 items and displays them in sets of 100.  I cannot find any associated event in the server events and/or SharePoint ULS logs nor are there any daily sharepoint timer jobs running at that time.  Our full index happens at midnight with incremental happening hourly.  Our enviroment is 2 WFEs, 1 App/indexer and we have a separate SQL cluster backend.

Could someone lead me possibly in the direction I should take next in my troubleshooting?

Filter a listbox with textbox

So i currently filter the listbox with some javascript i have found.
What it does is going to the item i type on the textbox.
It will not filter the listbox so it will contain the specific matches.
I was reading for autocomplete but i don't seem to find this 2 way usage.
I was also reading this article:
But i'm completely lost on how i can implement it.
Any ideas?

How to reference a listbox from a procedure

I have a listbox that gets loaded from a couple of different places on my web form.

I would like to put the code to load the listbox in one place, rather than have two copies of it.

The problem is, I can't figure out how to reference the listbox control successfully from within a procedure.

Would anyone know how to do this?

My code looks like this:

private static bool LoadSubscriptionListBox(System.Web.UI.Page Page)
        bool bReturn = false;

        // Clear the listbox

        // Load the listbox

pre populating webparts

i m wanting to know if it is possible to pre populate content within a webpart so the user only has to add the web part to the page, and not make any configurations changes.

What i am trying to achieve is with the image web part and pre loading this with an image which is hyper linked to another of our systems

Could you let me know if this is possible and if so how i go about doing this.

Open With Windows Explorer very slow

I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where some users of our SharePoint environment have problems using the open with windows explorer option in a document library.

For some users this works fine...  the explorer opens quickly and they can manage the documents.

For other users it takes up to 5 minutes before the explorer view opens.  During this time the browser becomes completly unresponsive.

As part of the troubleshooting process I tried taking the UNC path that is shown in the explorer view and tried using the Start -> Run and then entering in the path.   This seems to cause the complete desktop to freeze until the explorer window displays.

This is occuring on Windows XP SP Pro SP2 with both IE6 and IE7.   The desktops are on the same domain as the SharePoint servers.

Any thoughts on next steps?
