client socket connecting in loop

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 05, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework
I'm running Visual Studio Express 2008 C++ on a Windows XP machine. In trying to use System::Net TCP communication I came upon the following problem ... I'm connecting to a server by trying clientSocket->Connect() in a loop, because I need to wait until the server is up. If the connection fails, I just use an empty catch. I assume this is not really a good way to do it (giving catch functionality). using namespace System::Net; ... bool is_onLine = false; Socket clientSocket; ... while(!is_onLine){ try{ this->clientSocket->Connect(serverIpEndpoint); if (clientClientSocket->Connected){ // Print out connection succeeded is_onLine = true; } else{ is_onLine = false; } } catch (SocketException^ err){ } } I can't seem to do this any other way. Not having a catch makes the program throw an exception whenever I set up my client to use Socket->Connect() when the server is not running. Is there a better way to have the client trying to connect to the server in a loop?

Connection problem while connecting from client to server.

Hello, i am trying to connect sql server 2005 express using c#.net 3.5. my connection string is "Server=.\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\DATA\db_naren.mdf;Database=db_naren; Trusted_Connection=Yes;" this is working fine when i am connecting to sql server from the local machine. When i am trying to connect from someother machine to server it is giving error like A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) i added previliges in add new administrator on SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration . and i made changes on SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration  page, on Database Engine --> Remote Connections -->Local and remote connections --> Using both TCP/IP and named pipelines. still same error i am getting from client machine i am using connection string as "Server=MyServer\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\DATA\db_naren.mdf;Database=db_nare; Trusted_Connection=Yes;" is there any thing i need to do to connect from client machine to server?please

C# Client App connecting to WSS3.0 with X.509 certificate

I have been unable to find much information on using smart cards and X.509 certificates when connecting to WSS 3.0.  I am able to build a Web Service Reference in VS 2010 just fine.  I get prompted for my cert, I select it, enter my pin and all is well.  But I am failing to handle it properly in my app.  I created a test method that creates the new WSS List object.  I assign System.Net.Credentials.DefaultCredentials to the Credentials. I then call GetListCollection.  I am never prompted for my cert, and I get a 500 error back from the server.  Everything works fine in IE and adding the reference so I think I missed a step, but I cannot figure out what that would be. I running the app with an account that has no relationship to the authentication domain WSS is part of, so I expected to be prompted for the cert when I tried to connect. Does anyone know how to do this, or offer up some guidance.  Thanks, LD

TCP Client connecting to a dynamic ip - exception thrown

Im making a simple chat server for quite some time now and Im constantly having some easy problems I cant comprehend.

      client = new TcpClient();
      client.Connect(IPAddress.Parse(""), 15555);
It throws:
"A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, <br/>
or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond"

Im connecting to myself over the internet I suppose but it wont work.

The thing is, Im not listening to this IP. Im listening to my LAN IP because Im connected to the internet through LAN so I cant listen to my global IP

because it throws an exception that the IP is not valid.

I suppose the real question is am I doing this right, and if not, what should i do?

SQL SERVER 2008 TDE / Pass Private Key from Connecting Client

With TDE is it possible to pass the private key for an encrypted database from the client?

I need to secure the database from the machine users.  They should only be able to access the database through my software, a C#/.Net app.  The server should only have the certificate and master key.

Using Socket.SendTo and UDP to dropped client causes uncatchable SocketException

I'm having a simple problem that I just can't seem to resolve. :P

I have a server application that listens to incoming UDP packets on a given port. The remote endpoint is stored for later use. If a client drops out, that is there is no client listening at the endpoint, the server throws a SocketException. All fine so far. The problem is that the debugger does not catch it and it seems to occur after socket.SendTo has returned.

I also tried to catch any unhandled exception within the application but it does not appear at that level either.

Some assumptions from my side

* UDP SendTo is blocking by default and will not return until the bytes are on the wire? Ive also tried to set the IsBlocking property.

A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.Sockets.SocketException' occurred in System.dll

The server then just terminates.

Server setup code

  // Create the socket to use<br/>

   workSocket = new
 Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Dgram, ProtocolType.Udp);<br/>
   workSocket.ReceiveBufferSize = SocketBufferSize;<br/>
   workSocket.SendBufferSize = SocketBufferSize;<br/>
   // Bind the end

Problem connecting to report server from client machine

We've deployed some reports from a server machine which can be accessed without any problems if you are logged onto the server itself by going to the URL of http://servername/ReportServer. However if we try and access the reports from a client machine (even if we use the same administrator Windows account) we get the Windows security window appear asking for a Username and Password to be entered in order to connect to the server. We've tried entering this but we then just get a blank screen after being re prompted a few times to enter the details.
Now I'm not sure whether this will be a Reporting Services or a Windows issue. Could it be a setting within IIS? It can't really be a user thing as the same user works on the server but not on the Client machine so it's more of a machine problem. It's as if there are some authentication settings somewhere that need to be set.
We are using SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.
Thanks a lot

Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) Loop

discovered an interesting error recently while working with Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) that, surprisingly, had received no ink. Partly what surprises me about this is that the error may require you to rewrite large sections of your code if you haven't previously considered this SharePoint limitation. I'll start with some context, but first of all the error is:

Use jQuery and ASP.NET AJAX to build a client side Repeater

By sending only data to the client, you can profoundly reduce the size of what you send and see a substantial increase in performance. You also allow yourself the ability to easily add features like light-weight sorting and paging on the client. This can not only improve your users' experience, but reduce server load and bandwidth requirements.

Client Side Gridview Pagination using JQuery

I would like to show how to use Client Side Gridview Pagination using Jquery Table Pagination Plugin by using Ryan Zielke.

To that end, I'm going to walk you through these four steps to effectively implementing a client side Repeater, using ASP.NET AJAX and jQuery:

Practical Multithreading for Client Apps

Writing applications that use multiple threads is often considered an advanced programming task, prone to errors. In this month's column, I'll focus on a practical application of multithreading in Windows® Forms applications with some real benefits, while attempting to keep things simple. My goal is to present multithreading in an approachable way that addresses a very common need: writing applications with a user interface that remain responsive to the user.

Adding Client-Side Confirmation When Deleting

The JavaScript confirm(string) function displays its string input parameter as the text inside a modal dialog box that comes equipped with two buttons - OK and Cancel (see Figure 1). The confirm(string) function returns a Boolean value depending on what button is clicked (true, if the user clicks OK, and false if they click Cancel).

want to execute url without showing that page or url to client.

hello friends,

I need ur help,what i want to do is to execute a url ("To send a text message to client") on client registration but without showing that url page, in short executing url without displaying any page or url to the client.

please help and thanks in advance.

Client script not running

Dear all,

in my MVC 2 application, and in the shared Master Page I wrote this little script for menu handling :

<script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () {
     $('#nav li').hover(
         function () {
             //show its submenu
             $('ul', this).slideDown(100);
        function () {
           //hide its submenu
            $('ul', this).slideUp(100);

The script, that shows menu items when the

Connecting to MS SQL Server database using webmatrix.

I am novice  user to raizor syntax using webmatrix and i am trying to connect MS Sql server database (instead of using .sdf file i am using .mdf file) using the tool webmatrix for startersite.

The connection string that i setup as follows.

<?xml version="1.0"?>

And i am using websecurity helper as well and the setup is as follows.

WebSecurity.InitializeDatabaseConnection("Data Source=INLTE5556\\SQLServer2005;Initial Catalog=OES;Integrated Security=True", "System.Data.SqlClient", "UserProfile", "UserId", "Email", true);

When i am trying to insert the user details into database i am getting the below error.

Problem to obtain client IP on web service

I'm having problems to obtain the client IP on web service. Here's my scenario:

One server with Windows 2003, hosting the web service using .Net Framework 2.0, with IP and host name ServerTransaction.
Other server with Windows 2003, hosting a web application using .Net Framework 2.0, that consuming the web service on  ServerTransaction, with IP and host name ServerApplication.
Many other computers on the local network (IPs:,,, ...) acessing the web application on ServerApplication.

On the code of the web service I've tried to use HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostAddress or HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR") or HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FORR"), but always I can only get the IP of ServerApplication (

Any idea or tip?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.
