Sharepoint Ent. 2010 - Error during Installation from VM ISO

During Farm/Custom install on an Ent. 2008R2 VM with SQL 2008R2 installed. Using SW_DVD5_Office_SharePoint_Server_2010_64Bit_English_MLF_X16-43564.ISO from MAP. Error: SharePoint Error 1335. The cabinet file 'STS.CAB' required... Install must be cancelled as Retry does no good. ISO from Partner site. Hyper-V in Ent. 2008R2 connected to DVD drive. All is 64 bit. Could this be related to something in Pre-requisites or just a bad image from MS site?

SharePoint 2010 Product Key to use upon installation Enterprise vs Internet

We are building a public facing SharePoint 2010 instance. Now of course we have to get the correct licences for public access and such, which we have done, but we have 2 licence keys one for "Enterprise" and one for "internet". What is the basic difference between using the "Enterprise" key VS the "internet" key? The install process asks for a product key, but does not give up any hints as to which key should be used for what purpose. When installing SharePoint 2010 for our public facing sites which Product key do we use? On the face of it you would think that the the "internet" key should be used because of the public facing requirement, but would that give you all of the other services (e.g., excel, infopath, visio, etc..) that the "Enterprise" key (Licence) provides? If you install with one key and realize after the fact that you needed to install with the other key can it be easily changed or is a re-install of SharePoint 2010 needed? Any assistance would be most appreciated    MatteoMatteo

Unable to load External list in Sharepoint Foundation - error due to trial period expired

I've created an external content type and external list on Sharepoint Foundation. Everything is OK when creating and viewing these items in create mode in sharepoint designer. When trying to view the external list in the browser I get error message "Unable to display this Web Part..." When I opened the same list in the mobile view url I get a more descriptive error message: "The shim execution failed unexpectedly - The trial period for this product has expired.." I have read and followed the instruction related to this thread concerning expired trial period bug, and iisreseted the server after change but I still can't display the list. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/644ab342-4eaa-468c-95c1-f345a4f65f26#644ab342-4eaa-468c-95c1-f345a4f65f26 Any ideas anyone??

After Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010, trying to open site gives 404 error in browser

I had this as reply on a thread about migrating from WSS 3.0 to SFS 2010. But I have completed all the steps with the modified documentation, but the browser delivers an error 404 when I try to open the site I created.  Same thing happens if I go at it via https, but first I get a certificate warning error (using the IP instead of the FQDN) and then being prompted for credentials.

I am completely stumped at what else to look at.  Any help in gathering information to get help is also appreciated.

Environment:  SBS 2008, SFS 2010, SQL Express 2008.  Rest of the IIS sites continue to function normally and I can get to the management site ok.  Although after the install, I had to go into application pool and change the service account from the domain admin (it defaulted to that) to networkservice account, otherwise I got a 503.  Same thing happened on the site I created until I changed the service account.  Now just a 404.

Sharepoint Designer and Foundation version mismatch error

The company I am employed by has been running SharePoint 2010 successfully for several months now. Recently when anyone attempts to edit our main site using SharePoint designer they are prevented from doing so an given the following error message: "Server Error: The version of Microsoft SharePoint Foundation running on the server is more recent than the version of SharePoint Designer you are using. You need a more recent version of SharePoint Designer". We are running the most recent version that we can find available for download from Microsoft. The server administrator has attempted to roll back the most recent patches / updates to SP Foundation, rebooted the site collection, tried a fresh install of Designer and other obvious common solutions to no avail.

This is a massive impediment to our continued development of this product. How do we resolve this problem?

Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise change product key after installation.

Hi i have installed a Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise server and i want to change the key. I don't want to downgrade it just change the key.

I have tried to do it from central administration but its not working because i have the enterprise.

So my question is how to do it without uninstalling the product.

Error Upgrading Sharepoint License Type to Enterprise

I've tried upgrading the licence type from "SharePoint Server with Standard Client Access License " to Enterprise  using Central Administration > Convert License Type but the field where i am supposed to write the cd-key for Enterprise cannot be used. I click on it but i cannot write anything.

So i went to  "Upgrade and Migration > Enable Enterprise Features". I select the eterprise radio button and enter the new product key. I wait for some time and then i get this error :

"An error occurred while enabling Enterprise features. Refer to the event logs on your server machines for more details. For more information on how to fix this error, refer to help.

Click OK to return to the SharePoint Central Administration Operations page

The event log reports this critical error  :

Unsupported 16-bit application error during SharePoint 2010 Prerequisites Installation

On Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit when installing SharePoint 2010 Prerequisites, I get the following error on the step "Installing Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5"

Unsupported 16-bit application
The program or feature "\??\C:\Users\AbcdUser\AppData\Local\Temp\ChaE305.tmp.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit compatible version is available.

Can someone please shed a light on how I can get Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed on 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2, so I can proceed to install remaining prerequisites required by SharePoint 2010?

Microsoft Project 2010 synchronize with SharePoint Foundation error (invalid characters)

I have been unable to synchronize my MS Project with a SharePoint Foundation tasks list. Each time I try I get the following message:

"Unable to synchronize the project with the SharePoint tasks list because the list name contains invalid characters. Modify the list name and synchronize again. Valid list names cannot contain any of the following characters: !.[]'"

I click OK and the process stops. It creates the Task list in SharePoint but does no more.

The SharePoint task list name is not the issue. I've tried a few (Project Tasks, tasks etc). It's not the Task Name in Project either. I'm using a test project file with only two tasks called "Startup" and "planning".

Any ideas?

An error has occured in sharepoint 2010 foundation

I'm having problems with installing SharePoint foundation 2010. Istallation finishes without any errors and the configuration wizard just as well. But when I the try to open the following url (http://server:port/_admin/adminconfigintro.aspx?scenarioid=adminconfig&welcomestringid=farmconfigurationwizard_welcome) a blank page with the text an error has occurred. Also, after turning customerrors off and httperrors to custom, I get a 500 error when accessing the central administration.

Because of some research I have done I found out that turning the pipeline mode to classic instead of integrated fixes that issue. But if I do that I cannot access any page anymore (e.g. the /default.aspx). I get a 404 - not found.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Powershell installation of SharePoint Foundation 2010

I am attempting to do a silent farm installation of SharePoint 2010 via powershell using the SPModule commandlets and am running into the following error when attempting to run the Install-SharePoint command (passing the path to .exe and path to config.xml):

PS C:\Users\administrator.INETTEST2K3N> Install-SharePoint -SetupExePath "c:\install\setup.exe" -ConfigXml "c:\install\files\setupfarmsilent\config.xml"

The variable cannot be validated because the value C:\Users\ADMINI~1.INE\AppData\Local\Temp\2\config_2010_Jul_09_16_41_
28.xml is not a valid value for the ConfigXmlPath variable.
At C:\SPModule\spmodule.setup\Install-SharePoint.ps1:412 char:19
+     $ConfigXmlPath <<<<  = Join-Path $env:temp $ConfigXmlName
    + CategoryInfo          : MetadataError: (:) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ValidateSetFailure

I have tried this on both 2008 and 2008 R2 (x64) and keep getting this same error.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

SharePoint Enterprise Search 2010 Error

Hi All,

We have two server farms:

1. MOSS 2007 Server Farm having Web application and its pages and content

2. SharePoint 2010 Farm having Enterprise Search 2010 with one Web Application using Search Template

We are trying to crawl the MOSS 2007 web application, which on a separate farm from the SharePoint 2010 box. We created the Search Service Application, Web Application and have associated the Web Application with the Search Service Application.

We have provided the scopes for searching the MOSS 2007 Web Application for its content and pages and also provided separate scope for searching people from the MOSS 2007 box using the appropriate SPS2/STS3 protocol.

We have also made a change in the Search Settings of the MOSS 2007 Site Collection to redirect the search to the SharePoint 2010 box, when any user uses the Search box of MOSS 2007. This works perfectly well.

Appropriate read-only rights have been given to the web application using the Central Administratoin web application policy.

The only issue we have is, when a user tries to visit the search results pages on the SharePoint 2010 box, and when displaying the search result, SP 2010 box hits MOSS 2007 box  to fetch the require data and displays pop-up box for Authentication.

Is there anyway, where we can supress the Authentication
