Creating a Smartphone Application and Using Data from SQL Mobile

In this exercise, you will use Visual Studio 2005 to create a Smartphone application. You will associate commands with a mobile device's soft keys, and you will add the ability to scroll through the list of available products (a list of images). You will create a data source for an existing SQL Mobile database, and then test the application in the Windows Mobile 5.0 emulator.

In the following procedure, you will create a new Windows Mobile 5.0 project in Visual Studio.

ASP.Net Upload Image to MS Access Database

As you learnt from the previous articles to upload image to the SQL Database in ASP.Net 2.0 and stream that image into the memory to retrieve it from the database and display it on the web page. In this article you will learn how to upload images to the MS Access database in ASP.Net 2.0

First of all create an Access Database and place it in the App_Data folder of ASP.Net web site project. Then create a table "tblImg" with the following fields:

Upload transparent PNG image

Hi everybody

I'm creating a website where it must  be able to upload, crop and resize images. This works until I use transparent PNG images. When I upload a transparent PNG, the transparency becomes black. I've searched the whole internet, but found no solution so far. Can someone help me? This is my code. I'm working with MVC 2.

			try {
				HttpPostedFileBase file = Request.Files["image"];
				file.SaveAs(Server.MapPath("/Uploads/" + file.FileName));

				ViewData["ImageLocation"] = "/Uploads/" + file.FileName;
				return View();
			catch (Exception exc) {
				return RedirectToAction("UploadImage");

This month John Papa takes a look at developing a mobile application that can access data on your application server.

Wireless Web: Microsoft Mobile Internet Toolkit Lets Your Web Application Target Any Device Anywhere

If you've built Web sites using ASP.NET, you'll welcome the Microsoft Mobile Internet Toolkit (MMIT). MMIT extends the Visual Studio .NET IDE you already know by providing new controls for handheld devices letting you easily develop applications for wireless devices. This means you can write less code while adapting it to more devices. Not only does MMIT integrate with Visual Studio .NET, it extends ASP.NET as well. This article gives you the background you need to write, test, and deploy a site with MMIT and make all your code able to target specific devices for a custom fit.

image and TextBlock docking WPF application

Hello, I'm new with WPF and I'm struggling here with docking a TextBlock and Image. I've an image that i want to use as a background to my window, the image contains picture and text, and i want to add a TextBlock above the image text, i've no problem doing it, but when i change my window size (press the maximize button) the space between the image and the textblock is not saved, what should i do in order to save my look&fell when the window resizes? i tried using DockPanel, and any other panel, but i guess i'm doing something wrong, so i will really appreciate an example.   Thanks a lot for helping, Gidi.

Binding byte[] to image control in navigation application leaks

Hi there, I have a (minimal) navigation application with two pages. Page1 contains an image. Switching between pages is done via a buttonhandler in code behind, for instance, (this.NavigationService.Navigate(new Page2())) The image is loaded in code behind via: private void LoadImage() { string fileName = "./images/image.bmp"; if (!new FileInfo(fileName).Exists) throw new Exception("File name doesn't exist"); using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(fileName, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)) { this.ImageData2 = new byte[fs.Length]; fs.Read(this.ImageData2, 0, System.Convert.ToInt32(fs.Length)); fs.Close(); } } ImageData2 is a byte[] property that sends a propertychange event on changing. ImageData2 is bound to an image in xaml: <Image Grid.Row="1" Source="{Binding Path=ImageData2, Mode=OneTime}"/> When we unload Page1 the following clean up code is executed private void Page_Unloaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { this.ImageData2 = null; GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); GC.Collect(); } Now, when I start changing pages, I expect the Page we leave to unload, so the GC removes the byte array. However, it doesn't. Am I missing something? Binding the image to a BitmapImage (ImageData1, as you might have guessed:-) ) doesn't leak.

My Messages Inbox: A Mobile DotNetNuke Application for the St. Louis DNN Hackathon

This past week was the St. Louis DotNetNuke Hackathon .  This was a competition for DNN developers to create a mobile application which interacts with DNN .  We had one week to create something worth showing off.  So, I, along with another developer at Engage , Abadi, took the challenge. Abadi has experience developing games for Android phones, so we decided to write a Java application (rather than using Appcelerator's Titanium Mobile product) which could connect with the Messaging...(read more)

Need to upload images with data, but image url's are in separate db table

Hello, I'm making a simple homes classifieds section and when a home ad is created, a HomeID is automatically created for it in the db.  I need the images to upload and enter the associated HomeID with each image automatically.  What I tried isn't working, because it looks like it's looking for the HomeID in the codebehind before it gets entered into the db.ASPX CODE<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"         ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"         InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Homes] ([UserName], [Street], [Details], [Contact], [Phone], , [Thumb], [Price], [Approved], [Posted]) VALUES (@UserName, @Street, @Details, @Contact, @Phone, @Email, @Thumb, @Price, @Approved, @Posted)"         SelectCommand="SELECT [HomeID], [UserName], [Street], [Details], [Contact], [Phone], , [Thumb], [Price], [Approved], [Posted] FROM [Homes]" >        <InsertParameters>            <asp:Parameter Name="UserName" Type="String" />            <asp:Parameter Name="Street" Type="Str

Backward Compatibility of Windows Mobile 6 application

Hello, I have a app developed to run on Windows Mobile 6 (using VS 2008).  The requirement now is to get it running on Windows CE 5.0. (basically backport it to the very old version of windows mobile OS as the client is reluctant to upgrade the mobile OS) I did some research but havent found a convincing solution yet and still dont know whether this is even possible.  If it is possible, can you please let me know the detailed procedure? My environment details are: Win 7 (64 bit), running Visual Studio 2008. The application uses SQL CE 3.5. Thanks, P Joe

Upload image to database - couldn't find file path

I'm trying to display images in a GridView (yes, still this...). [edit] Before I can come to that I have to upload some images to the database.I've followed this tutorial for the "upload image to database" code (this worked fine for uploading images, but I don't know if the images were converted to byte):http://aspsnippets.com/Articles/Save-Files-to-SQL-Server-Database-using-FileUpload-Control.aspxand I've followed this tutorial for the "display images in gridview" code (and "retrieve file" from the tutorial below).http://www.aspsnippets.com/Articles/Display-images-from-SQL-Server-Database-in-ASP.Net-GridView-control.aspxIt doesn't quite work, the GridView shows but without imagesNow I'm trying to change the "save file" code according to this tutorial:http://aspsnippets.com/Articles/Save-and-Retrieve-Files-from-SQL-Server-Database-using-ASP.Net.aspxbut I don't understand everything in it. When I try to upload an image I get an error on this line:FileStream fs = new FileStream(filePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); //couldn't find file (path to image I tried to upload) What should I do about it?
