Problems installing SQL Server 2005 Integration Services for Server 2008 R2

I am trying to install Microsoft Forefont and i have got a tick on every requirement bar 1. I can't install SWL Server 2005 Integration Services Component. I am running windows Server 2008 R2. I have tried numerous steps such as going into to control panel and adding component but the Integration services is not appearing on the options. Is it actually possible to install 2005 integration services on server 2008 and if so how? Thanks

SQL Server 2008 R2 \ Analysis Services Purchasing

If a person wants to experience with Analysis Services (not as a trial) for his personal use, does it mean that the cheapest way is to purchase a "SQL Server Standard" license for $898?

http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/pricing.aspx

Another option is ($2,607.55):

http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/SQL-Server-2008-R2-Standard-Edition-32-bit-10-Client-Access-Licenses-/product/99B2882D

Is there a way to get a cheaper version of Analysis Services + SQL Server (maybe along with free versions such as "SQL Server Compact" and "SQL Server Express")?

Thanks!

SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services - Syncronization Speed Issues

We are experiencing a severe performance issue when syncronizing cubes using R2. We have 2 sets of machines that we are experiencing varied performance and speed when syncronizing cubes.

Test Server Pair 1
----------------------------------
Dell R710, 72GB Ram, 2 drives in Raid 1 (OS), 4 drives in Raid 10 (Cube and DB Storage) - This is the source server
Dell R900, 256GB Ram, 2 Drives in Raid 1 (OS), 3 Drives in Raid 5 (Cubes & Storage) - Server recieving sync updates

These servers are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU9 Enterprise (64bit). The performance of the cube syncronization is slow but manageable.

Test Server Pair 2
----------------------------------
Dell R710, 96GB Ram, 2 drives in Raid 1 (OS), 4 drives in Raid 10 (Cube and DB Storage) - This is the source server
Dell R910, 256GB Ram, 2 Drives in Raid 1 (OS), 14 Drives in Raid 10 (Cubes & Storage) - Server recieving sync updates

These servers are running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 R2 CU2 Enterprise (64bit). This pair of servers running SQL 2008 R2 syncronize very slowly.  The process about 70-80 percent slower than the first pair. Our cubes that we syncronize are very large in size (some are 500-800GB in size) and for that reason con

Running licensed SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services with SQL Server Express editon?

Hi,

We have a SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition. We've also installed Analysis Services and are using cubes.

Is it possible to have the Analysis Services on another server, to take some of the load of the "relation engine" server?

Do we need a relation engine on this server? Will SQL express be sufficient for this?

Thank you,

Marcel

2 Node Clustered SQl 2008 Sql Server Agent & Analysis Services Fail on only one node

Hi,

Until recently this worked ok, however now on one of the 2 nodes if I fail over SQL all of the services start, on the other node, Sql Server Agent & Analysis Services will not come on line. I have checked some of the other links suggestiing fixes but they dont seem to apply. On the Node where it fails you get an error 53 for the server agent the Analysis Services fails with Generic service 'Analysis Services' could not be brought online (with error '1060') during an attempt to open the service.  Possible causes include: the service is either not installed or the specified service name is invalid.

attached is the details from the Sql Log

SQL Server Analysis Services 2008 and SPSS

Hi,

I've recently been approached to assist in some statistical analysis of customer survey data. The team doing the analysis is trained in statistical mathematics and their newest member has a wealth of experience with tools such as SPSS and Minitab. She is keen to purchase a statistical analysis tool to perform trend analysis, exception analysis, pattern analysis etc. and has asked if we have such a tool that could do the same job for a lot less dollars.

My question is, can you perform the same analysis in Analysis Services. Excel or Reporting Services as you can in purpose built statisical analysis packages? Are there models pre-built which can be added to the Microsoft tools set to assist?

SQL Server 2005: Unearth the New Data Mining Features of Analysis Services 2005

In SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services you'll find new algorithms, enhancements to existing algorithms, and more than a dozen added visualizations to help you get a handle on your data relationships. Plus, enhancements to the Data Mining Extensions to SQL along with OLAP, DTS, and Reporting Services integration make it possible to create a new breed of intelligent apps with embedded data mining technology. Here the author explains it all.

OLAP: Build an OLAP Reporting App in ASP.NET Using SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services and Office XP

Many organizations analyze their business-critical data using Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) technology. OLAP-based data mining provides a way to query multidimensional data sets and drill down into the data to find patterns. ASP.NET and the Microsoft Office Web Components (OWC) enable Web-based OLAP reporting. The OWC controls include PivotTable and Chart components that can be embedded in a Web page and scripted by programmers. In this article, the authors build a Web-based OLAP reporting app using ASP.NET, OWC, and SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services to illustrate the process.

Having problems installing/setting up SQL Server 2008 Express/R2 for ASP.NET user management on deve

I'm a bit new to installing and configuring, well, just about anything regarding databases, so please bear with me. I'm currently building a couple of ASP.NET MVC 2 sites.  I'm following along with the MVCMusicStore tutorial, and am trying to set up user management using ASP.NET's configuration tool.  The problem is that ASP.NET can't 'see' the database. I have SQL Server 2008 installed on my laptop.  It's the version which is available on the Web Platform Installer (I believe it's Express).  When I try running the aspnet_sqlreg.exe program to set up my user management database, it can't tell that I'm running any version of SQL Server at all.  I get an exception about 'named pipes', and some other things I don't understand at the moment. Obviously, this is all a bit over my head.  Is there an idiot proof guide or tutorial available that describes, step-by-step, how to: 1. Install SQL Server 2008 on a development PC 2. How to configure it to be used by Visual Studio 2010 Professional 3. How to properly upload/modify the db on the production server with what's on the development PC Essentially, all the things that the ASP.NET tutorials gloss over.  Any suggestions, links to documentation, or other nudges in the right direction would be immensely appreciated.

SQL Server 2008 Install failure - Reporting Services Rule Failures

I'm installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.  I'm going through the install and on the "Installation Rules" page I have two failures: Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existance Reporting Services Catalog Temporary Database File Existance Clicking on each of the failures they both say that each file exists "Select a reporting services file-only mode installation" Clicking the "Help" button tells me to "Rename, move, or delete the files" This is the only information I can find on this exact failure.  I'm not technical enough to know exactly where these files are or what they are named.  I cannot proceed any further without correcting this issue.  I'll include some of the shorter summary log files.  I can include other detail log files if that would help. Thank you so much for any help. Help!!!! Permission issue with Analysis Services on Windows 2008 R2

Hi I'm with a project using Sql Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2. It seems I can not connect to Analysis Services server with SA acount but only with Windows Authentication (The 'Authentication' option is diabled). And when I connect to Analysis Services with my windows acount , I do not have the permission to either create a database (ERROR:Either '***' user does not have the permission to create a new object, or the object does not exist) or grant server privilege to my windows account (ERROR: Only an administrator can make changes to server properties). Also, I failed to remote connect to Analysis Services on Server with my windows account (But I can remote connect to Database engine). Any idea?  Thanks!

SQL Server 2008 Linked Server SELECT INTO issue

I have a SQL Server 2008 installation running on a clustered Windows Server 2008 R2. I am trying to execute a query on a remote SQL Server to create a table. In order to do so, I call a stored procedure on the remote SQL Server. The stored procedure's description is as follows: ------------------------------------- Create procedure [dbo].[USP_RemoteExec] @varSQL varchar(max) as declare @tempSql nvarchar(max); set @tempSql = CONVERT(nvarchar(max),@varSQL); exec sp_executesql @tempSql ------------------------------------- I pass the following command to the remote stored procedure as follows: exec [servername].[dbname].dbo.USP_RemoteExecute @varSQL='if object_id(''testdb.dbo.tmp_testEmpty3'') is not null drop table testdb.dbo.tmp_testEmpty3; create table testdb.dbo.tmp_testempty3(col1 int, col2 varchar(20));' go select * from [servername].testdb.dbo.tmp_testEmpty3 go This statement returns the following: --------------------------------- col1,col2 (0 row(s) affected) But, when I run the following statement: exec [servername].[dbname].dbo.USP_RemoteExecute @varSQL='if object_id(''testdb.dbo.tmp_testEmpty'') is not null drop table testdb.dbo.tmp_testEmpty; select * into testdb.dbo.tmp_testEmpty from (select top 10 mytab.[col1] as [col1] , mytab.[col2] as [col2] , mytab.[col3] as [col3] FROM testdb.dbo.mytab as [mytab] with (nolock)) as A' go select * from [
