Change Variable and Argument editor in workflow designer?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application
Is it possible, in Beta 2, to customize the behaviour of the editing grids use for entering data about a workflow's variables or arguments in the workflow designer?  Can I:- add my own custom column to the grid?- can I customize the variable type drop down editor? (e.g. have my own editor or otherwise filter the list of types)- can I change the "default" expression editor (and possibly remove it)?Thanks,Notre

how to trim a string value of a workflow variable using SharePoint designer.

I build a custom workflow using SP designer and have a need to trim a string value of a workflow variable. I tried using Calculation or Dynamic String builder but without success.

how do i trim this value in check_name_var to only first_lastname.

Can anyone show me how or have suggest on how to accomplish this or is it possible to do this in SP designer?

How to assign a workflow argument with Direction=Property to a workflow variable?

I created an argument 'ArgTest' with Direction=Property and ArgumentType=String and a variable VarTest with VariableType=String.

I'd like to assign ArgTest to VarTest. Direct assignment (using Assign activity) doesn't work, because there is a compiler error "'ArgTest' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level".

I tried to change definition of Assign activity in XAML using PropertyReference (which is System.Activities. ActivityPropertyReference) :

<Assign sap:VirtualizedContainerService.HintSize="242,58">
  <OutArgument x:TypeArguments="x:String">[VarTest]</OutArgument>
   <PropertyReference x:TypeArguments="x:String" PropertyName="ArgTest" />

, but I got runtime error: "Object of type 'System.String' cannot be converted to type 'System.Activities.Activity`1[System.String]'."

From another reasons it's important for me to have Direction of ArgTest set to Property instead of In.

I believe the solution must be easy, so I feel like I'm missing a trick. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

How can I show data from a Workflow variable in a SharePoint Designer Collect Data from User form?

I have collected some data (a comment) from a user in a SharePoint Designer (SPD) workflow step and I now want to display that comment in a second "Collect Data from User" form at a subsequent step in my workflow.  How can I add the content of my Workflow data variable, or even data from my original item, in the Collect Data from user form?

The Collect Data from user form is generated out of the Workflow Tasks list and only contains the url of the item where I could store the comment and which has the workflow attached to it.

This guy says he has done something similar but he appears to only use the URL and static info and does not explain the detail in any case: http://www.mstechblogs.com/paul/spd-workflow-collect-data-from-a-user-modify-the-generated-task-form

I'm keen to hack at the aspx form in SPD but I really need the particular line of code that will do it as I'm not a developer.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

I use SPD to build a workflow and I need to be able to get a SharePoint list column sum total value to assign to one of the workflow variable.

Do anyone have a similar situation and have came up with a solution , please share

Environment is  MOSS 2007 /SP2.

Thanks you so much in advance.

Customizing an Approval Workflow with SP Designer - where to edit when a change is requested?

I want to customize the SharePoint 2010 Approval workflow on a form library so that when a change is requested to a form, a group of people get notified of the change request and all comments entered by the approver requesting the change.

In SP Designer, I don't see where I can edit this.   I can change various things related to task approval and rejection but I just can't find the portion of the workflow that indicates what happens when a change is requested to the form.  Forgive me if it's obvious and I'm just overlooking it.

Trying to send email using Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow and email enabled list

I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".

I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in the To field.

Thank you,

Change the Workflow Status through code

HI Folks,

I have a scenario where i need to develop a 6 stage approval workflow(sequential) using WWF and depoly it to sharepoint. Everythigns fine till here.

Now we look ahead to change the Status field on the documents library which actually has the Workflow Name as the column name and its value being In Progress, depending on the stage of approval. Like(Approved 1, Approved 2, Approved 3.)

And if rejected the status should be rejected than Completed. Any idea how can we update this column of the List item.

I have tried item[workflowProperties.Workflow.ParentAssociation.Name]="Approved 1";

But this throws an error saying input string is not in a correct format.

Any information would be of great help :)

How can I implement this workflow scenario with SharePoint Designer?

I have a document content type and a library which contains this content type. here is what I want to do:

- when user creates a new document in this library, he will enter some user  names with people picker and then a message including some columns of the content type will be sent to that users. And then, at a certain date (lets say 1 day before a date that is one of the site columns) another email, a reminder will be sent.

I havent been able to find :

1- how can I replace a people picker field on workflow initiation form and how can I make it sent email to the user.

2- How can I make it sent a reminder email 1 day before the date that is stored in one of the columns of the content type(current item)

any help would be welcome,

How to use display Text in Hyperlink For SharePoint 2010 Designer Workflow

In SharePoint 2007 Designer, I have used the Hyperlink column to store the link "http://www.sharepoint.com/Default.aspx, Details". The details text will be shown in the Hyperlink column. Everything works fine in sharepoint 2007 Designer workflow.

In SharePoint Designer 2010 Workflow, I used the same method but the hyperlink column is displaying the full text "http://www.sharepoint.com/Default.aspx, Details" instead of only Details

Variable/Argument Type List

Hi I wish to restrict or supply my own list of (Variable/Argument) types to a rehosted Workflow Designer. Is this definatley not possible? I have read http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wfprerelease/thread/53c91c81-02cf-4eab-b43f-c3d73a03c501, where it appears it is not. I find it difficult to believe I cannot get some sort of control of how these drop downs are populated. Could someone please confirm categorically that this is or is not possible. Share Point Designer 2007 Workflow (Sequential) - multi-collect data from user

I am currently building a multi-step workflow using ShrePoint designer for MOSS2007. I am getting a bit confused as to if I have an error or if I am doing something incorrect. Here is what I have going. My workflow consists of something similar to the following New document comes in, a collect data from user routine is ran and assigned to a reviewer. My understanding when I create a collect data from user WorkFlow step is any data I request is saved in the "Tasks" list. Therefore I need to grab the workflow task ID in order to later lookup what the reviewer submitted... I understand this...   However, I have one more collect data from user workflow step and I have one more item to collect. Even though this is a brand new collect data from user workflow step - does the collected data still go into the "Tasks" list? In other words, if I have two steps in a workflow and both of these steps are "collect data from user", does the data from both steps go into the same "Tasks" list?  I could see how this might be possible as long as the Task list columns contain all the items for all the different "collect" data from user steps.  I don't see two different Tasks lists representing or named "Reviewer" or "Final" or anything, so I assume the items are all in "Tasks"   However..
