501 - Not Implemented for WCF REST PUT on IIS 6 .net 4.0

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF
How do I enable PUT on my IIS 6 for wcf .net 4.0 "SVCless" rest services. My Services are at the root of the website. I get "501 - Not Implemented" when the service is hosted at the root of the site. If if it is a child application it works.

Looking for a simple Service and Console Client REST sample implementing BASIC authentication

Does anyone know of a C# code sample demonstrating WCF REST services and console test client with OperationContracts (GET and POST) implementing mutiple paramaters using BASIC authentication? Also, perhaps, using Fiddler as a test client as well? I have searched high and low for something like this, but have not had any success.

Multiple services in REST Collection WCF Service?

After I create a "REST Collection WCF Service" project, it contains one service "service.svc". Can I add multiple services to this project? There must be a way to do so. Otherwise, it does not make sense to create one project for each service.

My question is how to add a new service to an existing "REST Collection WCF Service" project?

Thanks a lot.

Is the REST Starter Kit still needed with WCF 4?

The REST Starter Kit was targeted at WCF 3.5. I am wondering if it is still needed with WCF 4?

Abstract class properties work when not implemented?

Hi, I was just looking at a code example and was confused by the behavior of classes implementing an abstract class. So the project has an abstract class named GeneralItem with some abstract properties. Another class named NspItem inherits GeneralItem. NspItem does not implement any of the abstract properties from GeneralItem yet I can write code that successfully sets those properties. How is that working? Is the compiler automatically creating them for me? Example: public abstract class GeneralItem { public string Description { get; set; } } public class NspItem : GeneralItem { public NspItem() { } } static class Program { [STAThread] static void Main() { NspItem item = new NspItem(); item.Description = "Some String"; Console.WriteLine(item.Description); } } //Output would be: Some String

WCF Rest Security Issue

I have developed a wcf Rest application and I have prepared a web client in which I am using simple javascript embed over html pages now I want to implement some security to my pages how can I do so can any one explain me. I am not using asp.net as client. I am trying to implement some security to secure my data but I am not able find the way to do it.

Serializing Linq to Entities for use in a REST Service

What would be the best approach to send data retrieved from Linq to Entities over a rest service? For example, if you have a Linq to Entities class, say Products from the Northwind database. I want to return a subset of the Products (based on a query on the model) back through a service. First a retrieve a List<Product> from the context, and then i need to serialize the data and send it over the wire. If I use the exact Linq to Entities class, then there is so much "garbage" that it either fails outright (from a circular reference) or you are wasting bandwith. What is a design to overcome this? Create POCO objects for each linq to entities class you want to send and create custom code to tranform each object in the list to the POCO object? This is the only way I can see doing it, although it would be very tedius to create and maintain (unless some custom code generation was created). Is there a better approach? clients

Setting maxItemsInObjectGraph in a WCF REST config file???

Hi All, I am trying to create a new WCF Rest service. I used the online VS2010 WCF REST 4.0 template as a base. I have a service up and running and have been testing it using IE/Firefox (currently it is a read only API, so I have no need to post anything back to the service). I have an issue when the number of items being returned is too large, IE give me a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" I turned on tracing and was able to confirm the issue is with the maxItemsInObjectGraph property (defaults to 65536) <Message>Maximum number of items that can be serialized or deserialized in an object graph is '65536'. Change the object graph or increase the MaxItemsInObjectGraph quota. </Message> Using the defualt WCF Web.config file I have no clue how to set this value as it doesnt seem like a standardEndpoint can have this value set, or have a custom binding or behaviour assigned to them (at least I don't know how to set them). Here is the default web.config file the template created. Does anyone know how i can update/increase the maxItemsInObjectGraph property?      <system.serviceModel>    <diagnostics>      <endToEndTracing propagateActivity="true" activityTracing="true"   &nb

How to post data to WCF REST without entity?

The 'loginName' will eques NULL.am i missing something? how to let WCF REST get the post data?thx your view.

System.ComponentModel.DescriptionAttribute not showing up in REST service

I am trying to set the description for a REST WCF service, but it doesn't seem to be working. Code is: [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode=AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)]     [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode=InstanceContextMode.PerCall)]     [WebDispatchFormatterConfiguration("application/xml")]     [WebDispatchFormatterMimeType(typeof(WcfRestContrib.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.Formatters.PoxDataContract), "application/xml", "text/xml")]     [WebDispatchFormatterMimeType(typeof(WcfRestContrib.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.Formatters.DataContractJson), "application/json")]     [WebDispatchFormatterMimeType(typeof(WcfRestContrib.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.Formatters.FormUrlEncoded), "application/x-www-form-urlencoded")]     public class PublicAppointmentSchedulerSvc : IPublicAppointmentScheduler     {         IPublicAppointmentScheduler impl = new PublicAppointmentScheduler();         [WebDispatchFormatter]         [Description("Immediate or callback contact request")]         [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "InitiateContact", Method = Verbs.Post)]  &n

WCF REST webservice authentication error when hosted with godaddy

Hi guys, I'm currently hosting my site on a shared windows hosting box with Godaddy. I have upgraded my hosting account to .NET 3.5 and having IIS7 as well which is in integrated pipeline mode. I recently build a simple WCF web service using the REST started kit preview 2. Once i uploaded it to the server, I am getting this error"IIS specified authentication schemes 'Basic, Anonymous', but the binding only supports specification of exactly one authentication scheme. Valid authentication schemes are Digest, Negotiate, NTLM, Basic, or Anonymous. Change the IIS settings so that only a single authentication scheme is used." You can see it here:http://sawasdeethaiart.com/service.svcThe obvious fix for as i have read from various websites, is to make sure I configure my IIS to have either Basic or Anonymous specification enabled. But as i am on a shared hosting account, i dont have any access to do this. (I have checked all my options in the IIS hosting panel, but there is no option). I am also done this in my web.config<authentication mode="None"></authentication> Is there any other option I can add  to my web.config to overcome this? or is there any other fix for this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Mark

GoDaddy + WCF REST Service

I am newbie when it comes to developing a WCF REST Service. I have been reading up and have worked through hands-on labs/watched videos by Ron Jacobs to help me get a hold of WCF REST.  I have had no problems running my web service on my localhost. However it is now time to upload my "WCF Service Application" (not WCF Library) to GoDaddy's servers and this is where I am running into issues. As per Ron Jacobs tutorials I have removed my endpoints from my web.config file and the markup code in my .svc file now reads: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="DealService.Service" CodeBehind="Service.svc.cs" Factory="System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebServiceHostFactory"%> I proceeded to compile and then upload my code to GoDaddy and now am trying to access the web service, but am receiving the following error: Server Error in '/' Application. Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately.  Parser Error Message: The CLR Type 'System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebServiceHostFactory' could not be loaded during service compilation. Verify that this type is either defined in a source file located in the application's \App

WCF REST and Custom Error Handler

I have a RESTful WCF service, and I am trying to roll a custom behavior that extends the WebHttpBehavior, to provide my service a custom error handler (by implementing IErrorHandler of course). When I debug my service, the only breakpoint I hit is the getter on the BehaviorExtensionElement's BehaviorType property. None of the other methods are ever invoked; BehaviorExtensionElement.CreateBehavior(), WebHttpBehavior.AddServerErrorHandlers(), as well as nothing in my implementation of IErrorHandler. This leads me to believe that something isn't being registered with WCF. My service is defined in the app.config. When I step-through a call to one of my service's operations, I would expect that the process of throwing an exception would force my service to transfer the work to my error handler. But this is not the case... My service stops and throws me an unhandled exception, and nothing is sent to the client as a result. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not understanding this process? If someone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated! My code basically has implementations of IErrorHandler, and classes that derive WebHttpBehavior with an override on AddServerErrorHandlers(), and also BehaviorExtensionElement with an override for the property BehaviorType and method CreateBehavior(). Nothing fancy, but I have a feeling I may be missing something...This is my app.config:&
