Outlook Contact List From WPF Win App

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF
Hi,    I'm trying to build a WPF Win app that has a form that allows the user to send e-mails. I'd like to open up our company's contact list to it and in a perfect world create a text box that allows type ahead and user lookup just like when you type in the "To" box when composing an e-mail in Outlook to create a semi-colon delimited string of e-mail addresses. I'm not finding anything like this in any of my searches. Any ideas? Thanks.

Custom List And Outlook Integration

If I'm synching a task list with Outlook I have the ability to edit it via a task in Outlook and add email (.msg) files as attachments by simply dragging and dropping. Is there any way to have similar functionality for a custom list, and how is it accomplished if so?

Custom Contact List: has to be auto-populated with users and manually insert others contact

Hi All, is it possible to create a custom contact list that automatically insert user as contact? I have to use it to send auto-email to the people in the contact list... (ant they can be user or not) Thanks All Vit

Export to outlook calendar in a custom list?

Howdy, I have a custom list with a calendar view. I think it was originally created as a custom list rather than a straight-out calendar for reasons of functionality. However, obviously this, being only a list, doesn't have the "Export to outlook" or "Connect to outlook" feature. I can't really recreate the list from scratch because it's been used for quite a while with a lot of content and custom fields, so is there a way of adding this feature? Thanks, Clark.

Contact List Photo

How do i add photo to a user in a common contact list so that it is shown nicely in outlook.

I made it vice versa - added photofrom outlook and it updated my contact item in sharepoint list.

So i see that photo is an attachment with name "ContactPicture.jpg".

Cool i thought ! I made another item from sharepoint and attached "ContactPicture.jpg", then got into outlook ... and observe no image there (((

So how How do i make thing right ?

Retrieve Calendar list as iCal and Contact list as vCard

I am writing a SharePoint solution to make it possible to export selected content from a site to a ZIP in standard formats. For calendars and contacts this should be iCal and vCard.

I found out that SharePoint has the build in ability to create these files for me, using the RPC Method DISPLAY. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms416599(v=office.12).aspx

This is the vCard example: /_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?CS=65001&Cmd=Display&CacheControl=1&List={9F2DC91F-691F-46B6-A882-09F1B111B50C}&ID=1&Using=%2FLists%2FExportContacts/vcard.vcf

This works like a charm, but I'm already on the server, so it's a bit of waste of resources the make a web-call for every contact I want to export.

owssvr.dll is a frontpage extension and not written in .NET so I can't see what code is called to transform a listitem to a vCard or iCal. Does anyone know which code is called and if I can call this directly from the server (without webcalls)?

I know I can write custom code (or find it on the internet) to do these exports, but I rather use the built-in technology if this is possible

Outlook sharepoint contacts list with over 2000 records

Is there a way of getting around the 2000 records limit on sharepoint contact lists in outlook? This is a BCS list originating from a LOB system. It will pretty much always be over 2000 records.

sharepoint 2010 task list to outlook 2007

I've connected to outlook a task list of sharepoint 2010.

Once connected I can see  only the activities assigned to one single user. All the activities assigned to multiple users are not reported

Does anyone know how to solve this bug?

Many thanks

Anyone know of a way to do a more advanced Outlook contact sync with SharePoint?

Wanted to see if anyone had tried to do a more advanced Outlook contact sync with SharePoint.

We were hoping to find a way to have outlook sync contacts with a sharepoint contact list by categories in personal contact folders.  I.e. if a user has a contact in their personal exchange contacts that is marked with a category "Partner", is there any way to have all contacts categorized as "Partner" automatically share in the public SharePoint shared contacts for Partners.  Additionally, would be nice to also sync those users to the personal contacts.

Otherwise, we just treat the shared contacts as another contact folder for drag/drop sync.

"Connect to Outlook" and "Open Schedule" disabled in Ribbon on instance of Project Tasks list

Hi Everyone,
I am creating a custom list template for "Project Tasks", essentially I need a customized version of the OOB Project Tasks list. I've cloned the OOB feature over to my Visual Studio 2010 solution and I am able to successfully deploy my version as expected, with everything fully functional, gantt chart and everything, except one thing. When I provision an instance of the list using the OOB list template, I am able to see everything in the Ribbon enabled. However, when I provision an instance of my custom list template (clone), I see the "Connect to Outlook" button disabled, as well as the "Open Schedule" button disabled - which allows you to open the task list with Microsoft Project (I have all Office 2010 clients installed, including Microsoft Project).

I am guessing there must be some type of setting somewhere that associates the OOB list template to those Ribbon items that I see as disabled. The only thing different between my list template and the OOB list template is the Type ID. Could this be the problem?

Where should I be looking to troubleshoot this issue?

Sharepoint 3.0 Contact List not displaying correctly.

I recently moved the MDF and log file to another drive as the server's C:\ drive was full. Upon successfully reattaching the database I have been told that peoples first names are missing from the Contact list in sharepoint.

URL is: http://server01:3000/Lists/Contacts/AllItems.aspx

I am not 100% this has to do with the move of the 2 files STSServer01_1.mdf and STSServer01_1_log.ldf, however this is what they are saying that the First names have now gone.

When clicking on Lists and > Contacts I can see that the people in the list are missing the first name.

The format used to be: Lastname, Firstname

Now I can see just: Lastname

Any ideas why this would happen and how I get it to display first/last names again? The column is called 'Contact Name'.

Also how do I find out if this list is being read from somewhere such as someones outlook or the GAL or if they just created this list (I think they just created it)

Thanks for the assistance.

Connect to Outlook not working for an External List in 64-bit Office 2010

I've used Business Connectivity Services in SharePoint 2010 to create an External Content Type with Office Item Type 'Contact'. I then created an External List in a SharePoint site to display the items in the External Content Type (after granting permissions on the ECT). When I click 'Connect to Outlook', a VSTO is created and installed. It says, the install is succesful. However, I do not see the contacts in my External List in Outlook. This is a 64-bit version of Outlook 2010. When I click 'Connect to Outlook' again, I get an error: "Cannot install or update this external list on client machine because another update is already in progress".

From another client machine where I installed the 32-bit version of Office 2010, this functionality works great. It seems the VSTO SharePoint BCS creates when you click 'Connecto to Outlook' on an external list, is not compatible with 64-bit versions of Office. Just to make sure there were no other differences between my two machines, I went back to the 64-bit Office client, uninstalled all Office software, then installed the 32-bit version of Office 2010. I then did my test again, and everything worked just great.

So, my conclusion is: Connect ot Outlook does not work on a SharePoint 2010 External List when you are running 64-bit Office 2010.

SharePoint list connected to outlook is not trusted because of certification error

in our environment users have several SharePoint (WSS 3.0) contact lists, calendars etc. connected with Outlook 2007. But each time they start Outlook it gives them a certificate warning with message "The name of the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site".

The users access the SharePoint site strictly using the URL https://sharepoint.ourcompany.com. The certificate is issued by our certification authority and the CA's certificate is installed on users' computers. So when they access the site using IE, there is no certificate warning.

Is Outlook somehow using the internal URL of the server and that is why the names don't match? Is there a way to change the URL? Or is there a way to say to Outlook "ignore this warning for this URL forever and ever"

It is not critical but it bothers when you have to always click "Yes".

Thanks for any advice.

SharePoint tasks list in Outlook, displaying all assignments

Has anyone else seen this!?

We are regularly seeing hundreds of Task updates occurring within SharePoint, where people are apparently updating tasks that have nothing to do with them.

The cause appears to be people apparently randomly, but I have my doubts on this, having SharePoint tasks lists appear synchronised in Outlook.

This is not really a bad thing until you realise that the tasks it shows are for everyone not just yourself, so peoples natural instinct is to delete the tacks that aren’t assigned to them. This triggers the update emails and a lot of confusion.

Is there setting somewhere in Outlook/Exchange/Sharepoint that controls the filter of the synchronised tasks lists?

Any pointers/clues gratefully received.

Unable to connect any list or calendar to Outlook in SP 2010

I am completely unable to use the Connect to Outlook option on any list inside my SharePoint Foundation installation - the button is present, but remains greyed out and non-functional.

I have confirmed the following:

- The server is using AD and is set up correctly

- SMTP is set up for outgoing mail

- All features available have been activated

- There are no restrictions for the creation of local pst files on my system

- I am running Outlook 2010, 64bit

- The user being used is in an owners group for the site collection and the site, but I've also added direct permissions for the user for all possible permission sets

- I am able to use the Excel services, Visio and Project connections, but not Outlook

- I am using a standard, unaltered task list and calendar, neither of which will permit connection

- I am using IE8

Since the button is greyed out, I'm not even able to get an error message that might tell me something additional.

I've been searching for a while, to no avail - what am I missing?

Not able to see any events in outLook calendar which is integrated with WSS 3.0 Calendar List (User

When I click "Actions", "Connect to Outlook" it appears to work and even opens a calendar view.  The calendar is empty though (but the calendar on sharepoint does have entries).  I get the following error message from outlook:

"Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x80070005) : 'You do not have permission to view this SharePoint List . Contact the SharePoint site administrator.  HTTP 302.'"

I am able to view the calendar in sharepoint, so I do have permission to view it.

Show Sharepoint list tasks within the overarching To-do list in Outlook 2007

Is it possible to show Sharepoint list items in the overarching To-do list in Outlook 2007? (the one showing all tasks independent on which list it is in) I have no filters applied and can yet not see them.

Is this pending on some setting in Outlook?

Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

SharePoint 2010 - Photo Displays in MySite - Photo Doesn't Display in Contact List

MySite is up and running fine.  I am adding photos through Central Administration > Manage User Profiles.  All photos are syncing and showing up in contact lists whenever someone is added to a "Person or Group" Name (with picture) column.

I recently added someone, uploaded their photo.  It syncs fine with AD, can see it in the thumbnailPhoto attribute for this user.  I looked in the UserProfile_Full.PictureURL column in the Profile DB.  It is there as well (http://sharepoint:80/my/User Photos/Profile Pictures/DOMAIN_USERNAME_MThumb.jpg).  The photo refuses to display in the contact list.

This is only happening for one user.  Any ideas?
