Hardware backbutton on Droid only semi-functional for browsing -- any workaround?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I have just completed my first mobile website. It works beautifully with an iPhone, and ALMOST does likewise on a Droid. That "almost" is an ultra-frustrating bug that I'm afraid is hardware-based and will not permit a software solution. Allow me to state my hypothesis:"When you perform a software redirect to another page on your website, you cannot return to a functional version of the page you were on when the redirect was launched via Droid's hardware backbutton. You'll have the graphics, but the code behind the form will be gone and it will be nonfunctional. The ONLY functional route back from a redirect to the originating page on a Droid is via software switching.I've experimented endlessly with redirect option parameters, page cache settings and the pagestatepersister class in Visual Studio. Nothing works.  And I HAVE to use the redirect method to open the second page, because I have to derive some complex information before I'm ready for it to open -- onclientclick and navigateURL aren't options. This is NOT an issue with an iPhone . its backbutton always returns from a redirect to a still-functioning originating page. Is my hypothesis correct, or does somebody know some workaround that will enable me to offer iPhone functionality to Droid users?  If I could open a new window after processing data, that would solve my problem (Droi

FIPS compliance on web app; no workaround

We recently had FIPS Compliance enforced through Group Policy on our production servers.  In our development environment, we are setting the registry key to enforce FIPS, and we inserted the <machineKey> setting found elsewhere to use MD5 encryption in the ViewState.

However, the web application, which has been working for years, suddenly gets this error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Testing: Get Your Customers Involved in the Testing Process with Functional Tests in Excel

For specification documents to be truly valuable, they need to give an accurate picture of all the requirements of a project. This article describes how the communication value of specification documents can be improved by permitting users to test the code under construction using the Framework for Integrated Test (FIT), an open-source tool. It also explains how you can build a Windows Forms application in C# (WinFITRunnerLite) that converts functional tests, as written by your customers using Excel, into a form that allows you to run them with FIT against the code you're developing.

Browsing libraries from different subsite

Two anonymous subsites. Contributor in subsite A needs to browse pages library in subsite B using link asset picker.  Do I need to add subsite A contributor to subsite B permission list?

If I have 50 subsites.  Now I create a new subsite and the contributor in the new subsite needs to browse all other subsites library.  Do I need to add him to all other 50 subsites?

Backbutton on mobile device

I have a mobile web application published at www.tofilmfest.ca/tiffwidget.  It has one form where you input criteria for what you're looking fork, and another one that displays the results.  The results form displays two backbuttons for returning to the input page and they work fine.

The problem is when you return to the input page using the HARDWARE backbutton on your mobile device.  When you do this, the input page reappears, but is no longer functional -- you have to refresh it to get it working again.  The functional software backbuttons use redirection to return to the input page.  Can anybody think of a workaround that will enable the input page to remain responsive irregardless of how you return to it?

Stacked Column Chart: Workaround for busted InsertEmptyPoints

I had to struggle with this a bit so I'm gonna share what I figured out. To make a stacked column chart from a SqlDataSource you need to use DataBindCrossTable like this... CHART1.DataBindCrossTable(SqlDataSource1.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), "proceso_estado_nombre", "max_fecha_final", "valor", "") Now, each series created needs to be converted to StackedColumn type, which you do like this... For Each series As DataVisualization.Charting.Series In CHART1.Series    series.ChartType = DataVisualization.Charting.SeriesChartType.StackedColumnNext The problem at this point is that the chart wont work if you don't have the same number of points in each series and each set of points should have the same X values. So to fill in the empty points in each series you can use InsertEmptyPoints like this... CHART1.DataManipulator.InsertEmptyPoints(1, DataVisualization.Charting.IntervalType.Months, series.Name.ToString) However, when I did this I got inconsistent results. See below... <Series>    <Series Name="Terminado" Legend="Default" XValueType="Date" ChartType="StackedColumn" ChartArea="ChartArea1" ToolTip="Terminado: #VALY{C0}">      <Points>

Browsing through an xml file [newbie]

I've setup this <asp:FormView> to read from an XML file which I created, however I noted that although the .xml file has two <article> </article> tags, the data control (FormView) only displays the first item when enabling pages. Is this a bug or am I missing something out? Source code available here. NOTES 1. XML file is valid according to this page., although, I still have to find out an appropriate XSLT format. Ideas?

The resource you are looking error when browsing web service

I thought this question has to go in IIS forum but I couldnt get msdn forum. So I am posting here. Excuse me if it is not appropriate forum to post this question. I was running a webservice on port 80 in IIS. Then I had to change the port to some other port (say 5555) and changed the host header.  When I try to browse this web service it is giving me error as  The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed.. I even look into my IIS homedirectory and the homedirectory local path is not having any trailing backslashes(as some blogs suggested) When I look into IIS log files the S-PORT is showing still 80 for this request. Is there anything to do eith this in my scenario? Please aid me regarding this.Best

Service Operation - Get proper data when browsing the service, but not when calling the service from

Hello, I recently implemented a service operation in an attempt to pass some filter parameters to a data service (a user guid and an organization, actually, for impersonation of a user on the service's call to the application). I successfully added the service operation to the data service, and I can browse the service and see the data filtered as I expected. However, when I call the service operation from the Silverlight client, I don't get any results, even though I should. Am I missing something? Code below if it's helpful. Thanks! Service Operation Definition: [WebGet] public IEnumerable<opportunity> filteredopps(string userid, string org) { /*Define the connection with the impersonated user*/ CrmConnection crmc = CrmConnection.Parse("Authentication Type=Passport; Server=https://" + org + ".crm.dynamics.com/" + org + "; User ID=myuser; Password=mypassword; Device ID=mydeviceid; Device Password=mydevicepassword"); crmc.ImpersonatedUser = new Guid(userid); var crmOnline = new DataContext(crmc); List<opportunity> uplist = new List<opportunity>(); crmOnline.UsingService(service => { var query = from o in crmOnline.opportunityopportunities select o; foreach (opportunity thisopp in query) { uplist.Add(thisopp);

The specified view is invalid error when browsing for images

Hello All, Currently using MOSS 2007 publishing site and using the CMS elements to publish content to the web.  One of our users is experiencing a strange problem whereby when they try to insert an image into the Sharepoint content editor using the Insert Picture functionality they get the following error when trying to browse to an image: The specified view is invalid.   at Microsoft.Sharepoint.SPViewCollection.get_Item(String strDisplayName) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.States.AssetPickerDetailState.InitGridView(GridView grid) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.States.AssetPickerDetailState.Configure(SMObjectList objectlist) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.WebControls.SMObjectList.Handle_LoadCompleteEvent(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.EventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnLoadComplete(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) Only one user is experiencing this problem, others are fine. Does anyone have ANY ideas what is causing this issue or how to fix it? Thanks
