Web Services & invalid security certificate

I am trying to use the Sharepoint List Web Service and VS 2008 to read data from an Access database, create an XML document/element from the information in that database, and then use the XML to update a SP List.  However, our Development server has an invalid security certificate (to save money).  It appears that I can connect successfully to the Web Service (because I can add the Web reference to the project) but I get a connection error when I actually try to update the list.  (This article describes what needs to be done to fix my problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915599 but getting a valid security cert just isn't in the cards for this environment.)  The procedure worked correctly on a SP server that was hosted outside our company with a different validation method, i.e. not Active Directory.  We are using SP MOSS 2007.  Thanks for any ideas you can give me.

jQuery Custom Invalid Validation

Is there a method in jQuery that I can customize an invalid validation myself instead of using jQuery plug-in validation?

For example, if the form is valid do this below.

if ($('form').valid()) {
    //do something

But if I wanted to have a cutomize invalid method I could do this below.

if (!x == y) {
     $('form').valid() = False; //Sad

     alert('Form is not valid.');

Thank You,

SSIS FTP Task Variable Remote Path invalid

I am working on the SSIS FTP Task that transfer file from one FTP server to local location, rename the file name, and finally transfer the renamed file to another FTP server. So I defined 2 FTP tasks.

For the FTP file receive operation, I need the remote path to be updated by a script and pass to the user define variable. So I set TRUE to IsRemotePathVariable. In the RemoteVariable, I set User::FTPSourcePath where the variable is set in the script with "/DMFTP/filename1.jpg"

For the FTP file send operation, I set TRUE to IsRemotePathVariable. In the RemoteVariable, I set User::FTPDestPath where the variable is set in the script with "/DestFTP/"

After all the setting, the FTP Task box show me the error as "Variable "FTPSourcePath" doesn't start with "/". Another FTP box show me "Variable "FTPDestPath" doesn't start with "/"

Can anyone help me on this problem?? Thanks.

Client certificate validation fails in TransportWithMessageCredential

We have a windows client connecting to a Windows service calling a WCF Service. We need client certificate validation along with client username/password validation. However setting sbe.RequireClientCertificate = true; in the service gives a connection timeout error and by not setting it, the custom certificate validator is not called.  Also if code to assign certificate in client logic is commented there is no exception thrown. I need a validation for certificate as well as message (UserName/Password). Can you please help? I am attaching the code below:

Service code:

 WCFSettings settings = new WCFSettings();

                    _serviceHost = new ServiceHost((typeof(GDService)));

                    EndpointAddress epAddr = new EndpointAddress(settings.EndpointAddress);

Get Remote SSL Certificate Information

Hi All,

I am looking to get the data from any given domain names SSL certificate. For example I want to put in any website address e.g. "www.asp.net" and my code would firstly check if an SSL certificate exists. If it does then I want it to pull out the Issuer, Subject, Valid From and Valid Until etc. The intention is to create an SSL certificate checker similar to this: http://www.digicert.com/help/

How can I do this ASP.net???? - I have looked up loads of different things such as RequestCertificateValidationCallback and ClientCertificates etc.

I could be completely wrong (hence why I need help) but would I create a HTTPWebRequest and then somehow request the client certificate and specific elements that way?

Any help would be much appreciated - Thank you.

The security validation for this page is invalid

I have SharePoint 2010 installed in a lab and have encountered an error:

"The security validation for this page is invalid. Click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and try your operation again."

This occurs when trying to modify a list's view in order to change a default sort order and possibly other properties on that list.  I read that one can disable validation in Central Admin > Web Applications > General Settings, and that although this is not recommended, it did allow me to save modifications to a view.  Unfortunately, switching security validation off causes the Silverlight popups that allow creating new document libraries, pages, etc no longer works.  The error is:

"Error, An unhandled exception occurred in the Silverlight Application"

There are no features, or other custom code running.  This is a plain install of SharePoint 2010.

This seems to be happening on the My Sites site collection.  When I am logged in as the farm admin, I don't receive this error.  But if I am logged in as normal user, who does have site ownership - full control - the error occurs.

My environment is configured like:

http://lab.contoso.com - Top level publishing site

http://lab.contoso.com/members/sites - My Sites (members is a managed

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

Server side validation of Fileupload control not working

I've tried this method in my code behind to try and validate that the Fileupload control has a file or not. I get the error message the the event "Server Validate" cannot be found. Can anyone tell why? Thanks.

Public Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate

' Get file name

        Dim uploadAvatar As FileUpload = DirectCast(AdvertisementForm.FindControl("uploadAvatar"), FileUpload)

        Dim UploadFileName As String = uploadAvatar.PostedFile.FileName

        If UploadFileName = "" Then
            ' There is no file selected
            args.IsValid = False
            Dim Extension As String = UploadFileName.Substring(UploadFileName.L

VS 2010 HTML validation "in CSS" option - where the hell is it?

In VS 2008 there is a very useful feature of background HTML validation - it checks if CSS class name is valid i.e. it exists in one of the linked css files. But VS 2010 Express does not do that any more. And the relevant setting in Options->Text Editor->HTML->Validation->in CSS is not there. Ok, maybe they made it paid for option? VS 2010 Professional? Not there. Or maybe VS 2010 Ultimate? Not a trace.

1. am I blind?

2. they decided it is too convenient to use and removed it?

3. they will "introduce" it in SP1?

What is going on? That one thing made me move back to VS 2008 web developer.

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

Inserting rows via stored procedure and under certain conditions

I'm using Dynamic Data with Entity Framework in VS2010.

Let's say my table has these fields:

PersonID (FK)
LocationID (FK)

Hypothetical scenario (it's easier for me to explain this way, so just bear with me for now)... But let's say each row in the table represents "how many items were sold by such-and-such employee at such-and-such location," where location and person are foreign keys which are referencing other tables.  Basically, there should be no more than a ONE row which has a particular combination of Person and Location.  Makes sense?

So, when inserting new rows using my Dynamic Data app, the insert form displays editable fields for Person (dropdown), Location (dropdown), and Items Sold (textbox).  How do I prevent users from inserting another row into the table containing an already-existing combination of Person and Location?   How do I displaying useful feedback to them in the event that they DO attempt to do this?

I have several thoughts about this, but since I'm new to Dynamic Data, I'm not sure which way to go.  For example:

Option 1:  Use "cascading dropdowns" approach in the insert form and only pull in the "allowed" combinations of the two dropd
