We are upgrading SQL server2005 Express to SQL Server 2008 R2. We want to replace 2005 Express with 2008 R2 on existing system. We have lots of questions about how to perform the upgrade safely and pull in our existing databases. The existing
database files are in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1. Also, we'll want to use the existing instance name to avoid having to reconfigure all of the installed clients at our user's workstations.
Should we uninstall the 2005 Express version first? Will that keep the existing databases on the system?
Will 2008 R2 use the same data folder or create a new one? If it uses the same folder will it automatically recognize our existing databases? If it creates a new one, I suppose we can use the migration Wizard.
Thanks for any help....
I want to install MS SQL 2005 Exp. edition in windows server. For that I had already downloaded the SP2 MS SQL 2005 exp. edition from Microsoft web site. I am geeting error while trying to install SQL: "The SQL service failed to strat . For more information
see the SQL server books online topics, "How to view SQL server 2005 setup log files and starting SQL server manually." Our Server configuration is windows 2008 R2 with 32 bit prcessor.
Before that i had install the same but SQL Server Management Studio icon is not showing, so I unstalled SQL and then trying to fresh installation.
Please help me to resolve this issues.
Thanks in advance.
When installing & configuring MOSS 2007 the default settings were choosen. So now when we try to access the SSMS I get a message "The evaluation period has expired. Please buy the product at the following url.". I do have a product key for SQL Server
2008 standard but when I am trying to perform a edition upgrade it doesn't detect the SQL Server Instance "OFFICESERVERS" so I am unable to upgrade the server. Because of the limitation in size we are unable to create new doc libraries or pages on the SP site.
Here are the details of the environment:
OS : Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 64-bit
MOSS 2007 version : 188.8.131.5235, Current License : Office SharePoint Server with Enterprise Client Access License
Database : SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 32-bit
Hi people, I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 or 2008 express, but I'm getting an error:
Error inesperado en el programa de instalacion de SQL Server. Para obtener mas informacion, revise el archivo de registro de resumen de la instalacion ... Summary.txt. (This is in spanish).
When I check the summary.txt file, it doesn't have any help, the content is:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.4035.00
OS Version : Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
Time : Tue Apr 05 15:08:07 2011
What could the problem be?
I can't get my C# app to connect to the DB. I have tried numerous diff ways to connect. The DB is there, I can get to it thru sql server, just not from C#. I keep getting the following message -
Error accessing the database, a network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to sql server. The sever was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that sql server is configured to allow remote connections. Provider: sql network interfaces, error 26 - error locating server / instance specified.
All is on my home PC running XP Home Edition.
I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.
I have two SQL Server instances installed.
1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)
But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:
Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925
I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)
and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".
But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?
