Forefront Identity Manager errors when starting the User Profile Synchronization Service Application

I have seen several people who are having trouble getting the User Profile Synchronization Service to start.  None of those threads have the set of errors that I am seeing.  I have all the prerequisites installed and I am using the farm administrator account which has admin rights both on the SP server and the SQL box.  This is a split back-to-back extranet topology and there is a one way trust between the extranet domain and the internal domain.  The administrator account is an internal domain account.  I receive the following two Forefront errors every five seconds in the event log after starting the User Profile Synchronization Service Application:

.Net SqlClient Data Provider: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: HostId is not registered
   at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Data.Exception.DataAccessExceptionManager.ThrowException(SqlException innerException)

Event 3 - Forefront Indendity Manager with SharePoint 2010

Hi! Don´t know if this actully is in the wrong forum, but in my case this is the FIM service that comes with SharePoint 2010 that is the issue here. I got a bunch of event 3 error events in my event viewer that is pointing to the FIM Indentity Manager. I have the CU 2010 for June and Aug deployed. The synchronization is working but it´s not that nice to have all these events in the event viewer. The thing is that they have appeared after deploying the CU updates as I can remember. Below you have some exampels of some event 3: Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Service: Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Hosting.WorkflowManagerException: Forefront Identity Management Service does not support workflows of type 'Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Activities.SequentialWorkflow, Microsoft.ResourceManagement, Version=4.0.2450.9, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Hosting.HostActivator.ActivateHost(ResourceManagementWorkflowDefinition workflowDefinition) at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Hosting.WorkflowManager.StartWorkflowInstance(Guid workflowInstanceIdentifier, KeyValuePair`2[] additionalParameters) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Hosti

Forefront Identity Management Service does not support workflows of type 'Microsoft.ResourceManagem

I have a client that has a Named instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, as this can cause issues with the User Profile Service I have deployed the June 2010 CU to this SharePoint Farm. Farm consists of 1 WFE, 1 App and a SQL 2008 R2 cluster. While applying the June I also went ahead and deployed the August 2010 CU. This is a new environment and is still in the design phase.

Well on to the problem.

After these CU's were added we were able to configure the Profile import and everything is importing as expected.

But now the Event logs (Windows Application) are throwing a Forefront Identity Manager Event ID 3, every min, these are coming in groups of 2 with the same ID but slightly different messages.

Message 1:

Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Hosting.WorkflowManagerException: Forefront Identity Management Service does not support workflows of type 'Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Activities.SequentialWorkflow, Microsoft.ResourceManagement, Version=4.0.2450.9, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'.

Message 2:

CRUD Operation should be Part of BO or Service/Manager Classes?

I am developing an application which has a general structure similar to what Scott has described at http://nhibernateasp.codeplex.com

Thanks to Scott for developing such a nice architecture which can be used for most of the projects!

It uses Service Layer which contains service classes (like Product Service) which actually talk to the repository layer (ProductRepository) and these service classes are responsible for CRUD operations while the BO (Product) contains just the data and the validation methods.

As I have read, in OO design, you should design a class which contain both data and behavior, in which case, the BO (Product) should be responsible for doing its own CRUD and it should not be a responsibility of Service classes.

Which approach you think is better design and what could be the reasons?

Any help is this regard is appreiciated.

Getting AppDomain.UnhandledException event to work in a Windows Service

Nearly every forum thread I have found on "catching unhandled exceptions in a service" seems to end up where I am.  The supposed solution is the use of the AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException event.  But it doesn't work for someone, who then asks why and gets no answer.  Same for me; I can't get the event to happen.  It's as if I need the ServiceProcess version of Application.SetUnhandledExceptionMode(), which doesn't exist. For diagnosing this, I start a timer in a child object of the service and then throw an exception in the timer event handler.  Simple enough to simulate the real situation.  I have tried subscribing to the UnhandledException event in at least a half dozen locations throughout the service, from the Program that runs ServiceBase.Run() to the constructor of the object that owns the Timer, but it never catches this exception. The VS debugger recognizes that the forced exception is unhandled and takes me to the place where is thrown, letting me know it is an unhandled exception. Why doesn't my handler catch it?  Running without the debugger, the exception throws, the timer thread crashes, the service continues merrily along, and nothing gets logged anywhere.  That is NOT the result I need.  What are the people for whom this works doing that I am not doing? How can I at least get the offe

Windows Identity Foundation Security Token Service can't stay logged in

I'm using the Windows Identity Foundation **(WIF)** Security Token Service **(STS)** to handle authentication for my application which is working all well and good. However I can't seem to get any long running login with the STS. From my understanding I shouldn't care about the client tokens at the application level since they can expire all they want to and it should redirect me to the STS and as long as they're still logged in on the STS it should refresh their application token. Yet it doesn't seem to want to keep them signed in. Here's what occurs in my login.aspx on the STS var cookie = FormsAuthentication.GetAuthCookie(userName, persistTicket); if (persistTicket) cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(14); Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); var returnUrl = Request.QueryString["ReturnUrl"]; Response.Redirect(returnUrl ?? "default.aspx"); Which was taken almost directly from existing application using normal Forms Auth. From my web.config <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="Login.aspx" protection="All" timeout="2880" name=".STS" path="/" requireSSL="false" slidingExpiration="true" defaultUrl="default.aspx" cookieless="UseDeviceProfile" enableCrossAppRedirects="false" /> </auth

WCF Service: takes very long time to start up

Hi, What could be the reasons, why my WCF service takes up to 40 seconds to get started? My service class is set to [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.Single)] I am running a thread inside this class. The WCF service gets initialized and opened within the context of this thread. The Initialization: private void InitializeWCFService() {      // initialize servcie base addrresses      this.SetupBaseAddresses();      //MetaData behaviour : allow HttpGet      ServiceMetadataBehavior metaDataBehavior = new ServiceMetadataBehavior();      metaDataBehavior.HttpGetEnabled = true;      // initialize service host instance      this.seviceHost = new ServiceHost(this, this.httpBaseAddress, this.tcpBaseAddress);      // add service endpoints and behavior.      this.seviceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IUpdateServer), this.GetServerBinding(BindingType.Tcp), EndpointName);      this.seviceHost.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IUpdateServer), this.GetServerBinding(BindingType.Http), EndpointName);      this.seviceHost.Description.Behaviors.Add(metaDataBehavior);      // MEX endpoint      this.seviceHost.AddServic

FIMSynchronizationService - Event ID 6301 & 6060

Hi! I have an issue regarding the FIMSynchronizationService. The Synch service seems to work fine and the FIM services are up and running. I´ve even tried recreating the Synchronization connector without any success.  In the Eventlog --> Application Event ID 6301 - I got a bunch of these. See about the Event ID 6060 futher down in this question. The server encountered an unexpected error in the synchronization engine:   "ERR: MMS(5656): sql.cpp(5580): Query ({call mms_getobjidancwithrdnpobjidmaid_nolock(?,?,?,?,?,?)}) performed with error ERR: MMS(5656): sql.cpp(5633): Could not find stored procedure 'mms_getobjidancwithrdnpobjidmaid_nolock'. Claims to windows token service wont start in Central administration

Not sure if this is a bug or some setting I just dont understand but I cannot get the claims to windows token service from manage services to show as started. When I click start I get this error in the event viewer: An attempt to start/stop instance of service Claims to Windows Token Service on server <SERVERNAME> did not succeed. Re-run the action via UI or command line on the specified server. Additional information is below. c2wts (DOMAIN\sp_farm) I have searched and searched for an answer. This thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/6b865ead-970b-4460-9dcf-1cc6d6d8530b talks about needing a connection to the internet, but my server is connected to the internet so i think i can rule that out. Also I have read that c2wts depends on the crypto service. I have run this command with no success: sc config c2wts depend= cryptsvc I can start the c2wts service through services.msc and it is succesful. But central administration still shows it is stopped. I have also re-run the installer in repair mode, and re-run the initial configuration wizard, maintaining all of the same settings as the previous installation. That didn't help. Basically, I'm out of ideas and I cant find much about this on the web. Any ideas?

SQL Server 2008 express SQL Server Service won't start

Could really use some help. Am running XP Pro SP3.  Had 2005 Express running fine previously.  Installed 2008 Express but cannot get the SQL Server service to start.  SQL Server Agent does start though.  In log (below) it seems to be trying to access an E:\ drive that doesn't exist (did default install to C:\Program Files) - plus other issues.  Have 5gig+ free, so not sure why it's saying not enough space.  Have RTFMd the problem for a whole day with no luck.  Any advice much appreciated.   Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (Intel X86)  Apr  2 2010 15:53:02  Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 5.1 <X86> (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) (Hypervisor)   Error: 17054, Severity: 16, State: 1.
