Cannot delete external data list column due "Parameter name: combinedEncoded" error

Hello!   I migrated a Sharepoint 2007 to a Sharepoint 2010 by dbattach method. And now I want to delete the BDC list columns, but I'm getting this exception: System.ArgumentException:   Parameter name: combinedEncoded    at Microsoft.SharePoint.BdcClientUtil.SplitStrings(String combinedEncoded) What should I do to delete properly this columns?   Many thanks!

Creating a Site Column that Looks up an External List causes error when saving site as a template.


I'm not sure what the best practice is here, but I'm having a major issue trying to save sites as templates and I think I narrowed it down as to what the issue is.

When I try to save a site as a template, it creates the solution package, but it doesn't activate it.  When I try to activate it manually, I get the following error:

Feature definition with Id e9431ed5-27b1-4c33-9eeb-81b4ace9d372 failed validation, file 'test1ListInstances\ElementsFields.xml', line 481, character 231: The 'SystemInstance' attribute is not allowed.

I opened up the solution package and looked at the ElementsFields.xml file.  I traced the line to this:

External List Error - Access denied by Business Data Connectivity

Background: In SPS 2010 I created an External Content Type that is displaying the Customers table from a Customers database in SQL Server 2008. (I also added myself as the DBO for that database.) I configured the ECT to authenticate with the User's Identity and to also use the Secondary Secure Store Application ID "contoso\administrators". I then added both these accounts to the Business Data Connectivity Service and granted them all four permission sets. I configured the ECT Operations to perform all operations, and I filtered the return by limiting it to a 100 items.  Using the Create List and Form wizard I then created an External List from the ECT. 

Problem: When I display the External List in the browser I get this error - Access denied by Business Data Connectivity.

I have read several blogs about this issue (which seems to be common) but I still can't resolve it.  Can anyone help?

Use BDC data in list as multi-select column

I have a document library that uses values from another system for its metadata.  Right now, we copy the values from the primary system into SharePoint so users can choose them.  I want to find a way to use the BDC connection that I have set up to automatically pull those values.  The problem is that the current metadata is set to multi-select.  So, I have a file that is in the library and it can be used for multiple clients - clients is a column in my library and users can select many entries.  When I set up a column to pull BDC data, it only allows single entry.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Data list error with using tabs


I need ure help,

  • C# newbie stuck - trying to access column data in a SharePoint list in an SSIS script task

    Hello, I'm sure this is the simplest question but I can't figure it out, even with Google's help. I am trying to stumble through some C# code in an SSIS script task and I am frustrated that I can't figure out how to do the easiest things.  I eventually want to find data in a column,and then use another list as a lookup to replace that value with another where the existing value matches a value in the lookup list.  So, the data in my (multiple choice) column might be "apples; bananas" and in another list I have a row that contains two columns, the first holding the value "Apples" and the second containing "Red Delicious" and my original column should read: "Red Delicious; bananas." But, alas, I can't even figure out how to see the data that is in a column.     Connecting a Sharepoint Custom list with an external Data-source

    Hi I am planning to connect a Sharepoint Custom list with an external Data-source. External DB will be in Access 2007 format. More Information: I need a solution that we can connect our sharepoint list (one-way) to online db in a way that new  information is directly updated in the sharepoint list, whilst other info changed in sharepoint list  is not synced back to original value.     Best way to display data of a single column from a Sharepoint Custom List

    I'm trying to create pages that will automatically populate with data pulled from a sharepoint list (like title, department, contact info, etc.).   I'm using publishing pages. What would be the easiest way to do this, and how would I specify which data to pull from the list? For example, the page would be set up like this: [Title:biology] [Department:biology] [Contact Info:biology]   and when the page loads, it would look like this: Biology Lab Biology Department 123-456-7890   I want it to just pull the data -- I don't want a list view or anything like that.  I need this page to look pretty, and I need the each column's data to show up in a very specific place. How could I make pages that would do that?

    Need to link multiple External Content List items to a single document metadata column

    I have an external content list - for my purposes, the data isn't any fancier than a list of terms provided by a web service (read only - I don't need update/delete functionality). I want to be able to link any subset of those terms to a single document metadata column (in other words, I need it to work like a normal content list that is defined to allow multiple values in a column) but SharePoint doesn't let me do that on an ECL. I need the content list to be externally driven since more values are going to be added to an outside system over time, but I think it's possible that I may not need a full-fledged ECL list to make this work this way in SharePoint. Just to clarify: I don't need the metadata values in my documents to maintain a PERSISTENT link to the web service (if someone changes an underlying value in the web service DB, it doesn't need to be updated in the document table too). I just want SharePoint to offer up an updated set of source values from the web service if somebody goes in and edits the document metadata. Any ideas for how I can make this work?

    I get an error whe I try to delete a row from a list in a SP 2003 site

    Hello Everyone, I have a customer who is having problems with an SP 2003 site. Here is what the concern is: I have a list on an SP 2003 site... and I am attempting to delete a row from the list... To do that I am setting the list in "Datasheet view". I select the row, right click and select the "delete" option from the menu and delete the row. Then when I click on the "Show in Standard View" button, I get the following error: "An unexpected error has occured. Changes to your data cannot be saved. For this error, you can retry or discard your changes". When I retry, it says the same error msg... Then I have to discard my changes, and I am not successful in deleting the row.     List data validation failed error checking in dockument and uploading to library.

    If I upload a document to the "vanilla" Document Library at the root site (I have not created sub sites yet, we are in the testing phase), the document does get uploaded but the following error appears: Error List data validation failed.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.     Invalid URL error on InfoPath Form Publish on an External List

    I am using SP2010 Enterprise on Windows 7 and SPD 2010 & InfoPath 2010 all on the same machine in test.  I create an External List based on a ECT and Click on the 'Design Forms in InfoPath' icon and 'Item' which drops down from it.  That launches InfoPath Designer 2010 & downloads the form from http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn and sets you up in an edit session.  I can make changes on the form but when I publish via File | Publish | External List (Publish Form To An External List) I get a save prompt for local copy & then an error: The following URL is not valid: http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn  (same URL as it started with during the initial download). I took screen shots of the messages to make sure. Some things I have tried & observations: If I change to an internal Custom List the publish step (to list not external of course) works just fine. I also ran this test launching SPD as Administrator with no difference.  I stopped the System Event Notification service per http://serena-yeoh.blogspot.com/2006/08/infopathformurlnotvalid.html  'net stop sens' with no difference Any ideas are welcome. BTW I notice that this step of launching the InfoPath designer does change the form on the list in Sharepoint albeit slightly -

    Excel External Table Data can only create new SharePoint List when Exporting from Excel?

    I have a SQL Query that I refresh everyday in Excel. I want to be able to export this list over to a SharePoint list right after my refresh in Excel but I can only Export to a SharePoint list only once. If I try to export again to the same list then it will give me the error "The specified list name is already in use on this server. You must rename the list before publishing it to the server." I have web parts that have connections to this list and I do not want to export my Query to a new SharePoint list everyday. Does anyone know a way around this issue?

    Unable to load External list in Sharepoint Foundation - error due to trial period expired

    I've created an external content type and external list on Sharepoint Foundation. Everything is OK when creating and viewing these items in create mode in sharepoint designer. When trying to view the external list in the browser I get error message "Unable to display this Web Part..." When I opened the same list in the mobile view url I get a more descriptive error message: "The shim execution failed unexpectedly - The trial period for this product has expired.."     Adding a column from another List to a Dataview? Must I link sources or can I just add a new data so

    Using Designer, I added a dataview to a webpart page and dragged in a single list source. It works as expected. I now want a column from another list in my view. Must I link in another datasource, or can i just insert the data source for the second list into my datasources? The new datasource is there in the code and I see the caml select for it. but my XSL still does not find data: <xsl:value-of select="/dsQueryResponse/Master/Rows/Row[@ID = current()/@Key]/@Lastname" /> I noticed my new columns are not in the <datafields> tag, I tried adding them but it did not help. If Master is my lookup list , @Key is the dataview I will match with and @ID is the column in Master, and @Lastname column I want to return, is the above syntax correct? Many Thanks.
