"Only their own" allows users to edit, then shows access denied page

I am managing a WSS 3.0 portal.  I have created custom lists where a group has contribute permissions.  Under List Settings|Advanced Settings, when I set Edit Access to "Only their own" or "None", my test users can see the Edit Icon and the Edit Item menu option, and bring up the Edit Form.  When they click "OK", they get the Access Denied page.  My experience in that past is that they should not even been shown the option to edit, and they should get Access Denied if they somehow navigate to the EditForm.aspx page.  I even tested this on a brand new site, with three Links lists, each with different Edit Access Levels (All, None, Only their own).  I added one user with contribute permissions.  He had the same result: He could get all the way to EditForm.aspx, but got "Access Denied" when he submitted his changes.  What can I do to fix this?Christopher W. Custom Navigation control get access denied for visitor

Hi all,

I made a custom control for top navigation which iterate through all site within site collection.

But I get access denied error for user which is not an admin (has read access).

I try to use

            SPSite oSiteCollection = SPContext.Current.Site;

                using (SPSite oSite = new SPSite(oSiteCollection.Url))

I found that we can also using SPUserToken, I made it like bel

SharePoint - Item - Edit Properties - Access Denied Error

I have a SharePoint 2007 EE Site  (with patches up to version running on Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008.
I ported an existing site from a different domain to this server by backing up/restoring the content database. The site is running fine.

I added a new sub-site and here is where I have the issue. If I create a document library, add a document, and then use the drop-down on the item to pick "edit properties" I bounce to the SP Error: Access Denied screen. My account is a site admin and has full access to the sub-site.
I can view the properties fine.

When I try to upload a document I get the access denied error message if some of the meta data properties are marked "required". The document is still uploaded. I also get the same error when I try to edit an item in a list.

I can view/edit the properties in Data sheet view fine. The libraries on the existing sites work fine. It only seems to be an issue on new sub-sites.

It almost seems like a permission problem generating the property edit forms. There is nothing in the SP log files.

Edit access denied on publishing site - content db upgrade

There was a problem a while back in MOSS that caused users with proper rights to get access denied messages when attempting to edit or create items... something to do with the PermMask field needing the RenderXMLUsingPattern attribute to be set to true.

In a publishing site that was content db upgraded to 2010, I'm seeing the same issue, but PermMask is fine.  The problem seems to be with the "Publishing Site with Workflow" site template, because if I create a new subsite in this collection and give a content management user group any level of rights to it, including full control, the error persists in the new subsite.  However, if I create a vanilla team site in the collection, there's no issue.  The site collection has also been backed up and restored in a test environment to isolate any farm- or server-related issues.  Edit: both environments are also patched to August CU.

Anyone find a way around this without resorting to demolition?

In the logs, I'm seeing the following lines (user actually has 0x7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF):

PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00010000, have 0x00000000
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x4000000000000000, have 0xB008431061
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00000005, have 0xB008431061

Getting "Access Denied" when selecting edit from Item menu

(MOSS 2007 site, I am the collection administrator).

On a particular list, when I select Edit Item from the list item's drio down menu, I get the AccessDenied.aspx page.  If I go to DispForm.aspx first, the click on the Edit Item link, I get to my custom edit form just fine.

Can anyone explain this please, and suggest a remedy?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Edit List Item - Access Denied

There are supposed fixes for this but I cannot get a decent reply so i am posting a new thread. I am getting the same error as what was in this thread.

I want to run the script but cannot without getting an error.

Can I get step by step of how to run this script? Save the code into what? Run from what? On server or workstation?

I am a sharepoint admin, not a developer so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to code language...

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Text;
using Microsoft.SharePoint;
using System.Xml;

namespace CA_TestingHotfix
  class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)

    static void FixField(string[] args)

Access to report file denied. Another program may be using it.

Migrated from Windows 2000 ASP.NET 1.1 to Windows 2003, ASP.NET 2.0 and had this error. All the forums/MSDN/Blogs says to give Read/Write Access to C:\Windows\Temp folder. Why should we give Full Access to some folder in Production server?? In windows 2000, ASP.NET 2.0 development machine, no files are created when we run crystal reports from aspx pages. Then why in Windows 2003 servers, we need to give rights to temp folder?? It is a simple code

And the code is not storing anything on the disk. Then why should it store the GUID.rpt file in Temp file in Windows 2003 server?? Any alternative is there not to store anything on the disk when Crystal Reports are opened in aspx page??

Looking for an alt way to access the "edit menu"

I have discovered that personal views do not "stick" when accessing the Properties with through the "Type (icon linked to document) ".  --if user is using a personal view and they access the properties and then go back, the view reverts to the default view.

If accessing Properties through :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  the Personal views remain.

I am trying to deemphasize the document names in the library I am developing.  Is there another way to give the end user access to the "Edit Menu" apart from the :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  ?

"Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content"

Our search is not working. The crawl log indicates following error: "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content. (The item was deleted because it was either not found or the crawler was denied access to it.)".

If I check the event viewer, it indicates following error: "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]"

My default content access account is another one than this NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE account. The content access account password is correct. Apparently this content access account is translated to the NETWORK SERVICE account upon a crawl. And this network service account doesn't has the appropriate rights on database level. How can I fix this?

Access Denied with SPControlMode.New and RunWithElevatedPriviliges

I am trying to add MultipleLookupField to a webpart I am developing. It works fine as long as the user has Add permission on the list it points to: here is the code:

private MultipleLookupField _multiplelookupKeywords = new MultipleLookupField();
protected override void CreateChildControls()
Guid guidSite = SPContext.Current.Site.ID;
Guid guidWeb = SPContext.Current.Web.ID;
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite(guidSite))
        using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(guidWeb))
  SPList listTest;
  listTest = web.Lists[ListName];
  _multiplelookupKeywords.ListId = listTest.ID;
                _multiplelookupKeywords.ControlMode = SPControlMode.New; //Changing this to SPControlMode.Display works fine
                _multiplelookupKeywords.RenderContext = SPContext.GetContext(web);

Asp.Net upload file access denied

I have the problem below, if anyone can help me, appreciate it.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Access to the path 'c:\Inetpub\EnewsAttFiles\employ-e-header2.jpg' is denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'c:\Inetpub\EnewsAttFiles\employ-e-header2.jpg' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Hig

Access denied to folder in ASP.NET project either though I have granted all users full permissions !

i have made a very simple file upload app, that i want users to be able to upload images to a folder on my server, well localhost for the time being Stick out tongue

here is the simple upload code...

        protected void ButtonRegisterDetails_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
            // display properties of the uploaded file

Access Denied error

I have read several posts where this access denied to path ex.('c:\test' ).  The only way I got this to work was adding <identity impersonate> using my credentials in the web.config file but I don't want to use my credentials all the time.  I have Windows as the authentication mode so why doesn't it work without supplying my credentials?  I tried giving Network Service account write permissions to the folder but that doesn't work either.

Sharepoint site client access denied

I have an sharepoint application which was working fine.

I encountered a license expired message in sql server enterprise evaluation 2008 version after which i changed the date to 2 months earlier date, I have also changed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\ConfigurationState to 3 after which sql server started working but the issue is that the clients are unable to access the sharepoint site completely. On providing the url the web site requests for logon information and then access is denied. The same url with the same authentication credentials is accessible from the server and the entire application works fine from the server.

From the  client the below error page appears.

You are not authorized to view this page

Please try the following:

  • Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.

Sharepoint "Access denied"

I'm stuck on the sharepoint access problem now.

We are using Manged Sharepoint 2007 (a hosted version of Microsoft® Windows SharePoint Services 2007) provided by a hosting company.

With the sharepoint site, some of users can not access the site. Message:

Access denied.

You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource

It does not offer any logon prompt.

Users who can not access the sharepoint site are usually sitting in a LAN. I think it might be blocked by their policy. Am I right? Why do they need to block this site?

Please help me with this question.
