Search for a single site

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I have a MOSS farm with multiple sites. I have SharedServices set up, and a separate Content Source for my sites. However, I can't find how to restrict my intranet site to read from the intranet Content Source. It's pulling records from all the sites on the server. Also, is there a way to limit the returned data to certain types, eg: .doc, .xls, Announcement list items? Guidance appreciated.

Top-Level Search Scope not showing in Sub-Site

I've got a site 'B' created under site 'A' in SharePoint. When I'm at Site A, I can search and find things that exist in both A&B. However, when I'm in B, the 'highest' search scope I can pick is 'B.' I'd like to be able to select one step higher so that I can search A&B from any page. Is this possible?

Search Usage Reports Missing for Site

We have Usage Analysis enabled on our employee portal farm.  The SSP in this farm crawls all local SharePoint sites and one child farm.  When we view search and query reports, one of the site collections (in a dedicated web app) is missing.  All other web apps/site collections appear in the search/query reports.  The missing site collection is using the standard search pages and web parts - no customization with the object model that might break usage logging.

Has anyone else ran into this or know the solution?

Search does not find text in Word document stored in document library on a Report Center site within

We have a document library on a site created off of the Report Center site template. We uploaded a Word 2007 document with the word zebra in the text. Using the search bar at the top of the page we selected This list: Our document library and searched for zebra. We received no results.

We tested the same thing on another site (site template Team site) within the same site collection and search worked fine.

Does the Report Center search function differently then the search functionality on the Team site?

How to create a single entry page for site collections in MOSS 2007

I have  7 site collections containing a few hundred team collaboration sites. Some users are internal (intranet) but most are external (extranet). Extranet users are experiencing problems with losing links to their sites and forgetting which URLs to use. So I would like to create a single entry page that all users can enter after the logon process, which shows a list of sites they have permission to access, and other user-specific information. Perhaps relevant documents, tasks, recently modified documents etc.

I know this sounds like a 'My Site' but we want to use use a general welcome page instead. We use Windows authentication.
What is the best way of doing this and is it something that can be done in SharePoing Designer or does it need to be done in Visual Studio?

Many thanks in advance.

Portal Search Work - Site Collection Search Does Not

In our SharePoint installation we have an SSP which indexes local office sharepoint server sites.  However there is a problem, although we can do portal searches which reveal search results it is not able to do local searches at the site collection level and as a result we are presented with the typical error below.

No results matching your search were found.

  1. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly?
  2. Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words.
  3. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones.
  4. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results.

I am unsure as to why this strange event is occuring.  We do not have the WSS Search component running in the MOSS environment as the SSP service should be able to index and server search queries at the portal and local site collection level.

Any thoughts to this?

Cannot open a single page on my site.

hello Guys, i m facing a Problem while hosting a Website on dedicated Server. Actually we are shifting our website from 1 domain server to Other domain server. On previos Domain our webiste is running smooth, but i copied all webiste data and put in new server. I restore  the database from Old server to New server. I craeted a Virtual directory in IIS and set all net neccesssy parameters as required. But when I am trying to access the website I am Facing this Problem       Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off". <!-- Web.Config Configuration File --> <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration>Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a

SharePoint Search not working on one site collection

I am running into some weird behavior with how SharePoint is crawling site/list data.  Let's say our main intranet site is http://www.intranet.com: Most of our older sites are setup with URLs like http://www.intranet.com/sites/sitename .  Crawling is working fine on these sites and I can execute a search and find all of the results I would expect.  At some point recently (before I joined this firm), they made a decision that all new sites would have the URL http://www.intranet.com/SiteDirectory/sitename .  Any sites which fall into this bucket are not being crawled, it would seem. If I check Central Adman>Shared Services>Search Administration, I can see that the first content source being crawled is http://www.intranet.com so I would imagine this crawl should pick up anything under /SiteDirectory/ but it is not.  I also checked the Crawl Settings on this page and it is set to "Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address".  Lastly, I see that there were only 21 errors in the last full crawl but none of these errors apply to a /SiteDirectory/ site. In short, what could be causing the crawl to apparently skip all of the sites within /SiteDirectory/ and how can this best be fixed?

How to add List item in search results for anonymous in a publishing site?

Hi all,   For now, results in Library (document set or not) are shown and the link is the binary file. This is ok. But for list, anonymous users can't view results. As logged in I see the items in the AllItems.aspx page. How could I allow this result to be viewed by anonymous users too?      Thank you,   Benoit Pironet

Reset site / search usage infromation?

We've been building out a new farm for a new website and wanted to clear out all of our testing usage information. Is there a relatively easy way to clear out the site / search usage or will I need to delete / re-create our usage service?

How to add advanced search and results to the site?

I have a site with advanced search Box webpart. I would like to results to open to the same site with the search webpart. Not in the search center. My Site and Search Results Link back to Homesite

Hi, Just abouit finished my Sharepioint2010 portal and now cleaning up a few odds 'n' ends. If I click on My Site or People Search the resulting pages don;t allow you to 'Browse' back to the top level page of the Sharepoint site (ie. the Intranet Homepage). Although all my sub-sites have a 'Home' button aswell as the default S/Point home button on the top menu bar, MySite doesn't and I can't seem to add it. Any ideas ? Seems crazy that people can go into the MySite, navigate around but then have to type the server web address back into the Address bar to return from whence theyu came ! Cheers Ian

SharePoint 2010 Claims Based Authenticaton site working but search is broken

Hi, I have SP 2010 sucessfully installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server with SQL Server 2008 R2.  I created local machine accounts for the following: MACHINE\mssqlservice MACHINE\sp_admin MACHINE\sp_search MACHINE\sp_farms I have setup 2 sites with public facing internet access as well as local sites. I have CBA working properly on both sites from both public and private access. My problem is that when I go to search, I am constantly redirected to an error page. I have checked all SP services on the server and they are all running as MACHINE\mssqlservice That account has proper access to all sites as well as all DB's. My search is crawling and I get one error from a long named PDF file in my site, which is OK.   My questions is if my CBA is working fine and my search is crawling, why I am not getting a results page when I search from the sites:   Here is the error I get:   Error Internal server error exception:   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 5a03b730-42c2-48c9-a220-3b9d052481de Date and Time: 9/9/2010 4:45:07 PM   I am kind of stuck at this point and am not sure how to proceed.  Any help would be appreciated.        --TR

Branding SharePoint 2010 - Ribbon tool bar twice on search site

Hello everyone! I'm branding a SharePoint 2010 site and I'm stuck in a problem. The ribbon tool bar is appearing twice on the top of my search sub-site. Everywhere else is good (appearing just once). I did review all my code on the master page and everything seems to be good. Also compared the custom master page with a "v4.master" and all the sharepoint controls and placeholders are just exactly the same. Any ideas of what's going on? Here's the image: From
