SharePoint - Report Server - Client Certificate authentication

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi,I have a SharePoint site collection which requires client certificates. On the server I have configured Reporting Services in integration mode.I can call reports on other site collections which don't require client certificates but not on the site which does. On the site which requires client certificates the pages fail with the following error message:'An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with HTTP status 403: forbidden'The error message indicates that SharePoint doesn't call the web service with a client certificate. Does anyone know how I can configure SharePoint to use a client certificate?Any help is greatly appreciated.Adam

SharePoint 2010 & Client Certificate Authentication

we have upgraded our WSS 3.2 installation to Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and have trouble with authentication over client certificates (works perfect with WSS 3.2).

You can reproduce this with a fresh install of SharePoint Foundation 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Create an application and set in IIS authentication to Client Certificates. Then create a site with one document library and upload at least two documents. Then check all items in list view and try to delete this documents over delete-button in ribbon (not over context menu). At this point i get a javascript error:

Message: Object expected
Line: 2
Char: 20732
Code: 0
URI: https://XXXX/_layouts/inplview.js?rev=AohvE9XEf%2FI78tuaw1TGAA%3D%3D

I found following HTTP 500 error in IIS-Log:

2010-05-21 13:20:01 POST /_vti_bin/client.svc/ProcessQuery - 443 XXXX\XXX 192.168.XXX.XXX Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+8.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+WOW64;+Trident/4.0;+SLCC2;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729;+.NET+CLR+3.0.30729;+InfoPath.2;+.NET4.0C;+.NET4.0E) 500 0 0 188

If i switch authentication in IIS to Windows Authentication i get no error (HTTP Status Code = 200).

Cannot export from a Report in SharePoint integrated mode in a server hardend environment

We have installed Reporting Services 2008 integrated with MOSS with SQL Server 2008 on a 64 bit platform.

The environment has worked fine in test (but the servers are not hardend).

With the production environment, any attempt to export from a report into another format (eg excel, tiff etc) results in an unexpected error within SharePoint requiring closing the browser and reopening.

There are no details behind the error. We can also find no traces of the error within any of the logs (SharePoint, Reporting Services, Windows event log etc)

When the report is opened directly from Reporting Services (ie http://servername:8080/reportserver) the report exports fine. Similarly, if the report is opened directly from Report Builder 2, or through opening Report Builder 2 from SharePoint there is no issue. This issue only happens when the report is invoked directly through SharePoint.

We can only assume that this issue has something to do with server hardening/UAC as we have

Cannot add SQL Server 2008 R2 Report items to SharePoint Server 2010 document library

Using account which is the primary parent site administrator, can upload RDS and RDL files to the document library (however, cannot open report). User is also a domain admin with SA on the database instances. Cannot add Report Data Source with "New Document" icon. The permissions granted to user '[domain]\[user]' are insufficient for performing this operation. Under "Site Settings", "Managed Shared Schedules" fails with same error. Attempting to deploy from BIDS results in the same permissions error. Sharepoint Server 2010, Report Server 2008 R2. RS and SP databases hosted on remote server (SQL Server 2008 R2). All connections (SharePoint services, RS services, users) except SQLAgent authenticating to remote SQL Server with Kerberos (all SPNs look correct). Single site, site collection "/". Document directory called "Reports". Windows Integrated Security (Negotiate). How would I troubleshoot/solve problem?

Client/Server Authentication

Dear All,   I have a client/server socket application that enables file transfer between the client and the server, however, i want the client to be authenticated with the server before a file is transferred. the client should prompt for a user name and password which is used for authentication with the server. The server should be configured with user name/password pairs so that it is able to authenticate client. I have been searching for related work for quite sometime now but haven't come across anything close to this yet. Please i want any1 to help me settle this issues, i would appreciate if i am directed to an article or any other resources that is helpful, or pasting sample code/ uploading sample application would be of greatest help..Thank you all in advance. Regards, Mbgreat.

Client/Server Authentication with SSLStream

Hello, This is my first time using MSDN.  I have a client and server application which use SSLStream to communicate over port 80.  Both the client and the server are running as Windows Services.  Everything works in my test environment (my development computer, under the OS Windows 7 Ultimate). My problem is that when I go to deploy the client and server application to their deployment environments (the server being on Windows Server 2008, and the client being on Windows Server 2003) it does not work, and I get the error: "The client and server cannot communicate, because they do not possess a common algorithm" Please note that I have installed the same certificate using the makecert commands (listed in the "Firstly" section below) In addition, when I gave up on trying to get the client to authenticate under the Windows Server 2003 computer, I moved it to a completely new/different Windows Server 2008 computer.. and then got a new error along the lines of "credentials supplied to package not recognized." If you have any experience with this issue, please advise.  I have been working on this for the past 3 days and have burnt up over 20 hours of development time. Please remember, the problem keeps happening when the Server and Client attempt to authenticate. Firstly, I used the following commands via makece

One-To-One Client Certificate Mapping in Exchange Server 2010 WCF Configuration

Hi.I am having a java client which has proxy classes generated with jax-ws to use the exchange web services (exchange server 2010). This proxy only supports SOAP11.What I need is to configure exchange servers with CAS role to (additionally to the default authentication) map one certificate to one windows accout. Until now I: imported the servers certificate and enabled it (import-ExchangeCertificate -fileData ([Byte[]]$(get-content -path <certpath> -encoding byte -readCount 0)) -password:<security-string pwd> | enable-ExchangeCertificate -services IIS) created a client certificate mapping in IIS 7 and here is where I got stuck What do I have to change in the "...\V14\ClientAccess\exchweb\ews\web.config" to get this scenario work? The web.config file looks like this: <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="EWSServiceBehavior" name="Microsoft.Exchange.Services.Wcf.EWSService"> <endpoint address="" binding="customBinding" bindingConfiguration="EWSHttpsBinding" contract="Microsoft.Exchange.Services.Wcf.IEWSContract"> <endpoint address="wssecurity" binding="customBinding" bindingConfiguration="EWSWSSecurityBinding" contract="Microsoft.Exchange.Services.Wcf.IEWSContract"

Old school Client/Server migration to Sharepoint

I am an old school Client/Server developer and the creator of a 10year old business application (PowerBuilder/SQL Server) that is still used today by about 100 users. The application has about 100 tables, the largest table contains about 1,000,000 records.  I am looking for a platform by which I can upgrade this application to a more feature rich, technologically current environment. It seems like Sharepoint has some features that out of the box would add value to the users.

My Questions/Problems are:

1) Is Sharepoint a viable platform that can be used to replace a legacy Client/Server application.

2) I have tried to get handle on how I can get up to speed with Sharepoint development, but all I see are details, no big picture or how to get started. (A Wiki, Blog, Announcement, Calendar, Task or 5 column list of 100 items don't really constitute the components of a business app)

3) Should I be starting with Infopath first to replace the data entry forms from the legacy app?

4) What is the best path for transitioning from a Client/Server Developer to the Sharepoint Developer?

5) Are there any online examples of a business application on a Sharepoint platform

Any help, direction or comments would be appreciated.

Sharepoint 2010 & Report Server Web part

Hello all,

I'm doing some test integrating Sharepoint 2010 with Reporting Services.

My farm (a single server installation) is :
Sql Server 2008 R2
Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise

I've correctly set up the integration and all is working fine with simple reports.

With report with parameters or a little more complex I have a Js error stating this :

Report Builder 3.0 unable to access SharePoint Foundation 2010 Report Server

I am having a terrrible time getting this to work. I have configured the SharePoint site and the SQL Servers involved to use Kerberos. That has been confirmed working.

I then configured the SharePoint site's Reporting Services integration (trusted account), enabled anonymous access and enabled report builder. I can launch report builder without any issues at all. The problem comes when I try to save my report. When Report Builder is started Items->New-ReportBuilder Report it opens and display in the lower left hand corner "No current report server." When I close the Wizard dialog and click connect I enter http://server.fqdn.net and I receive the following error:

Connection failed:

Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL, 'http://servername.fqdn.net/'.

Make sure that the server is running, the URL is correct, and you have permission to use the server.

I have also tried http://servername.fqdn.net/reportsserver/. When I try that I receive a login prompt. When I enter my credentials it tries for a few seconds and then sends another login prompt. I installed the report server using default settings. The reporting services db is on the same server as sharepoint. The configuration and other databases are on a remote S

Net.TCP Endpoint; Windows Authentication security; client can connect to a server at localhost but n

Hey all, so here's what going on:

I have a WCF Service that I have setup as a Windows Service.  Everything works perfectly when I attempt to use the system with all of the components (i.e. server and clients) on the same machine.  However, when I try to connect my client from a different system, I get an error that is trying to tell me that the server rejected the client's credentials.

I need the client to the able to connect from a different machine.  I want to implement a SQL Role Provider kind of credentialing in the future, but for now, I just need it to work.

What I have tried
I have looked around online and read a few other posts as well some things in the MSDN KB and I have either not found the answer, or not understood it.

  • I have tried setting the <security mode="Transport"> to "None" with the hope that that would disable the accreditation entirely.  All it did was result in a different error saying that there was an error that might have been caused by an invalid message.  I have also tried a few other configurations with this element in the app.config file; to no success.
  • I have read some things about Impersonation, but I am not quite sure I understand how to implement it

WCF Service to WSE Client - Certificate authentication over SSL

I am trying to access a WCF service with a WSE 3.0 client over SSL using certificate authentication.  I can do it over an unsecured channel using a customBinding on the service side using the MutualCertificate authentication mode and the turnkey policy assertion mutualCertificate11Security on the client side.  This breaks when I move it to a production environment accessible only by SSL and either (1) change nothing in the server config file--connection gets refused because it is not https--or by (2) changing the server custom binding to CertificateOverTransport--client errors with this:  System.InvalidOperationException: Security requirements are not satisfied because the security header is not present in the incoming message.

My question is simply, how do I access a WCF service over SSL using certificate authentication?

how to catch certificate authentication and authorization errors in client

How can i know at client side that my request to wcf service(with certificate authentication over nettcp) has failed because of authentication or authorization.

i think authentication can fail if the certificate is not a valid certificate(ie date has expired). For authorization i have implemented ServcieAuthorizationmanger and returning true/false. how wcf will transfer this to authrization error.

Report viewer webpart in sharepoint 2010 foundation with Reporting server in native mode, possible?

We have a product on sharepoint 2010 whose major feature is with the reporting services, we are checking to see if our product can be deployed in a minimum environment of sharepoint 2010 foundation.
we have a minimal test environment with the following :

windows server 2008 R2
SQL Server Express Advanced
Reporting services configured in Native Mode
Sharepoint 2010 Foundation.

I would like to know if we can enable report viewer webpart on sharepoint foundation 2010 with the reporting services in native mode. our plan is that even if the reporting services are not in sharepoint integrated mode, we are thinking of using web services to get XML data and using the XML data in report builder 3.0 to generate reports? will the idea work in this environment? if so can anyone let us know how to get the report viewer web parts in this environment?

Thanks for any help,

- Asif
