Merge data from two different databases with the same schema

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I am writing an iPhone web app for tracking business mileage. The app uses AJAX and HTML 5 manifest caching to enable offline use. The data is stored on the server in a SQL Server database with the following schema:  When there is no network available, the app stores new data in a local database with the same schema using SQLite on the iPhone. Once a connection is aquired, the app automatically uploads the new data to the main database for permanent storage. Now, here's the question: I have data from two databases with the same schema. How do I merge the new data into the main database using LINQ? The primary key IDs in the new data must be discarded and regenerated by the main database so that there are no ID conflicts, but the two relationships must be maintained properly. What is the easiest way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In my aspx page I have a button.  So when I press this button I want the Excel sheet to open!  But I need the Excel sheet to show me the up to date information that is in the SQL DB.

Data Points: Updating Data in Linked Servers, Information Schema Views, and More

Every day a developer somewhere needs to write code to iterate through SQL ServerT system objects, query and update tables in linked servers, handle optimistic concurrency, and retrieve column and stored procedure metadata.

Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

MERGE using jQuery with a WCF Data Service

I'm a bit new to the whole asp.net thing so this is probably a silly question, but here it goes: I have created a WCF Data service based based on a ADO.net Entity--it's very basic: namespace raid{ public class allPeopleDataService : DataService< raid.raidEntities > { public static void InitializeService(DataServiceConfiguration config) { config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("*", EntitySetRights. All); config.DataServiceBehavior.MaxProtocolVersion = DataServiceProtocolVersion.V2; } }} I've been successfully retrieving data using jquery's '$.getJSON' and inserting data using a modified $.ajax: $.ajax({url: "/allPeopleDataService.svc/lists",dataType: 'json',contentType: 'application/json',data: $jsonObj,processData: false, type: 'POST'}); I was reading the post at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc668771.aspx and trying to use the MERGE method to update parts of the data with the following jquery jsont = { "__metadata": { "uri": "/allPeopleDataService.svc/lists(1)", "type":"raidModel.list" }, "list_name": "list blah blah" }; $.ajax({ url: "/allPeopleDataService.svc/lists(1)", dataType: 'json',

data contract code generation for large/complex schema (HR-XML/OAGIS) - is there an alternative?

Hello, and thank you for reading.I am implementing a Service based on a predefined specification (HR-XML 3.0). As such, I am starting with the schema, and working my way back to code. There are a number of large Schema documents (which import yet more Schema documents) related to my implementation, provided by this specification.I am able to generate code using xsd.exe, by supplying the "main" and "supporting" xsd files as arguments. But there are several issues, and I am wondering if this is the right approach.- there are litterally hundreds of classes - the code file is half a meg in size- duplicate classes (ex. Type, Type1 - which both represent the same type)- there are classes declared as inheriting from a base class, but that base class is not generated/definedI understand that there are limitations to the types of Schema supported by svcutil.exe/xsd.exe when targeting the DataContractSerializer and even XmlSerializer. My question is two-fold:1. Are code generation "issues" fairly common when dealing with larger, modular xsd files? Has anyone had success with generating data contracts from OAGIS or HR-XML schema?2. Given the above issues, are there better approaches to this task, avoiding generating code and working with concrete objects? Does it make better sence to read and compose a SOAP message directly, while sti

Best way to send data to report server from merge replicated database

Merging overlapping data from two databases?

We are decommissioning an older server (2000) and are in the process of migrating all the DBs to a nice new server (2005). One particular database was backed up and restored to the new server, BUT not all applications were re-pointed at the instance on the new server, they were left pointing at the old instance on the old server. Result: We have almost an entire day where some data was inserted into one DB, and some data was inserted into another. I've been handed the task of getting the data that went to the old server onto the new one. I've re-backed up the Db and restored it as a separate instance on the new server and I've been able to compare the two.  The "old" instance has about 675 records I need to get onto the new instance. Problem: 1. Trying to avoid writing a separate query for every single table in the DB, comparing the old and new instances, and inserting.  "IS NOT IN" or something similar.  I could do that but I'm swamped with work.  This project was NOT on my to-do list yesterday, but lots of other stuff was.  Anything quicker available? 2. Identity: Since the new instance took up where the old instance left off, and the old instance carried on as if nothing had changed, almost every row in every table has PKs duplicated in the other instance, but relating to a different data set. Besides shooting the individual

Attach site collection data from content databases

I have migrated my Sharepoint from a stand-alone installation to a server farm installation by following this article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262325%28office.12%29.aspx Every step was completed successfully, except for the last one (4): Install Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a new farm Move databases from the stand-alone server to the server farm Create and attach data from the Shared Services Provider (SSP) Attach site collection data from content databases Whenever I try using the stsadm -o extendvs I get the following message: The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by SharePoint.  You must select another port or hostname.   The following is the command: STSADM.EXE -o extendvs -url http://dms01 -ownerlogin group\dms -owneremail dms@xxx.com -exclusivelyusentlm -databaseserver jagrb -databasename WSS_Content -apcreatenew -apidname DMS -apidtype configurableid -apidlogin group\dms -apidpwd xxxx   So far, all my efforts to Attach the site collection data from the content databases have failed. Any ideas?

Comparing columns with NULL values--Merge says unmatched when data is matched.

I found the article below describing this same issue with the Oracle merge statement.  It also described a work-around:    http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/tip/Merging-datasets-with-NULL-values I have been unable to find a solution to this issue for SQL Server 2008.  I am trying to do basic ETL from Staging table to a Type II dimension table in a Data Warehouse.  I am using the Merge statement with the Unique key minus the modification date as my merge key list.  I have a handful of columns (in both Staging and the DW) containing nulls in my merge key list.  I have tried the ISNULL function and the ANSI_NULL db option (OFF) with no success.  When I put zeros in the null columns, it works as expected.  I am about to try separate INSERT and UPDATE statements, but I fear that the NULL comparison issue will bite me there with the JOIN statement.  Has anyone else experienced this?  NULL values are valid in our Data Warehouse.  How can I make T-SQL handle them? Thank you for your help, Jesse

Merge replication - table with geography data type

I have a problem with geography data type replication. Any change that is done on a Geography column breaks the replication - the error message is "The Merge Agent failed because the schema of the article at the Publisher does not match the schema of the article at the Subscriber." I double checked compatibility settings that is suggested here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreplication/thread/d8e31621-5d43-48cd-bdd3-c02b8a24625c. But both publisher and subscriber are 100RTM.

I checked synchronization logs and found a strange message - attempt to convert varchar to geography. I don't understand from where the varchar data type comes from. Tables at subscriber and publisher has the same format - geometry stored in geography data type.

2010-09-20 18:36:22.499 The Merge Agent failed because the schema of the article at the Publisher does not match the schema of the article at the Subscriber. This can occur when there are pending DDL changes waiting to be applied at the Subscriber. Restart the Merge Agent to apply the DDL changes and synchronize the subscription.

I have a newbe question about sql standard 2008, How do I merge 1 row of data from another DB to the

Hi everyone,

I am new to data base type work. I have very little exsperience in database code. I set up an application that retrieves data from the UI that has four forms. The application calculates and modifies this data for storage in different fields in a database. The application itself is not very simple as to the operation of the print and rs232 operations. But I have all of that code written and have written code for updateing the local db with this information. I was able thru searches to find enough information to update the local db.

I have not been able to find any code example for merging 1 row of data from one DB to another DB. That has the same data table and fields in both data bases.  Now these DB's are set up exactly same except for DB name and Table name. They have exactly the same field and column names. The only difference is the data in the primary key field, the database that is local builds two rows that the key field has the same data except for one letter and is build at different times. The remote data base has the same data in the key field except it does not have the letter at the end of the data.

Sanpshot Replication of all objects and Table Schema but no Data

table schema changes not being propagated - merge replication

I have attemped to change column types (i.e. from int to varchar(8)) on read-only published tables. I used ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN to make the change, and according to BOL this should make sure the changes are seen at the subscribers. Unfortunately, after I make the change to table and run sp_enumeratependingschemachanges, I do not see the table changes listed. However I can make changes to SPs and UDFs, and they do show up in sp_enumeratependingschemachanges and on the subscriber. Any ideas would be appreciated.
The publication is marked for replicating schema changes, the publisher is SQL 2005 and the subscribers is SQL 2005 Express btw.

SQL Server 2005 Schema Replication in Merge Replication

Dear Sir,

I am using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition for Creating & Testing Database.

I had created Merge Publication WITHOUT FILTERING ROWS and Created Push or Pull Subscription. Now if I Add or Drop column using ALTER TABLE (T-SQL) in Table OR modify stored procedure using ALTER PROCEDURE in Published Database then while Synchronizing It replicate same in Subscriber Database and works very fine.

But when I had created Merge Publication WITH FILTERING ROWS (Parameterize or Static) and Created Push / Pull Subscription and I try to Add or Drop column using ALTER TABLE (T-SQL) in Table  OR modify stored procedure using ALTER PROCEDURE in  Published Database then while Synchronizing It DOESN'T REPLICATE in Table of Subscriber Database but tries Replicate in Stored Procedure and display error.

After Adding Column in Table of Published Database, If I Checked Article in property of Publication then it Adds column but it doesn't selects it. I also checked using sp_enumeratependingschemechenges it displays pending schema changes of stored procedure but
