Loop through all Gridviews on Page?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I am trying to loop through all gridviews on a page to hide them and set their page index to 0. This should be very easy to do and it seems like the code below should work but it doesn't?? How can I accomplsh this with the least amount of code? FYI- this code is executed on a button click. Thanks!foreach (Control childControl in Page.Controls){    if (childControl is GridView)    {        ((GridView)childControl).Visible = false;        ((GridView)childControl).PageIndex = 0;    }  }

Stuck in Page Approval Workflow "Do-Loop"

My colleagues and I are building an intranet site. I have created a page, and am attempting to submit it, so my colleague can add content. So far I have gone through this process 18 times (to no avail): 1) Checked Page In 2) Submitted Page on the Publish Tab 3) Opened Status window on Publish Tab. Selected the open Approval Workflow. Selected Edit. Selected Approve. Hit OK. I receive confirmation emails -- yes, the page has been submitted. yes, the page has been approved. Checking back at the Status page, the workflow shows that it is complete/approved HOWEVER -- my colleague cannot access the page. It shows on her screen that the page is checked out and I am editing it. When I click on the page link, it opens immediately in the EDIT PAGE view (with Editing Tools already launched)...it will not allow me to get out of this mode. Also, if this is germane, the auto-generated URL ends in "ControlMode=Edit&DisplayMode=Design"...

two gridviews same page - unselect selected row when row selected in second gridview

New to asp.net and struggling with a problem.

I have two gridviews on same page - If a record is selected in Gridview1, I need to unselect a record (if one is selected) in Gridview2 - and vice-versa.

Can this be done?

Load gridviews after page has been loaded

I am trying to have the page fully load up and then after that load my gridviews as they take some time to generate..

Right now I do it with a timer and an update panel with the timer being set to 1 second which works perfectly fine but..

I don't want the page to be using the update panel when they click any button on it etc., I want it to function as a regular page.  What is the solution to this?

Another question is.. If i want to use this layout for multiple pages, what is the best way to do it so later on if I decide to change something in the layout I wouldn't have to go through all of these pages just to change 1 item.

Too many GridViews in one aspx page.... how to lighten it?

Hello everyone,

the project I'm working on has become quite bigger then expected. And now I have pages containing about ten different GridViews (and it is likely to increase!!), each one with its own EditItemTemplate, ItemTemplate, FooterTemplate, style, properties, etc. And, of course, in the code-behind (C#) each Grid has its events handled. You can imagine: it is a mess, playing with visibility of each one, ImageButtons to hide them, further buttons for other actions.
I decided to handle only events in the code behind, while using partial classes and additional classes for the rest of the code (SQL queries and everything else), but still, it's gettin a mess.

Well, my question is: is there a way to, how can I say, have a kind of separate files, where these objects are deployed, and from where I can reference them when running the application. Or, if it exists, a way to lighten aspx page and asp.cs pages.

I know it's part of the job, so here the question is just intended to investigate whether a possibility to "distribute" the objects used in a web page exists.

Hope to hear from someone... Smile

Overload page with many GridViews

I do have a page that is literally overloaded with about 10 GridViews and there is a datasource for each particular one. Now, each GridView is hide inside a panel, so I only display one at a time depending on what is it that the user request. My concern is the followng: Even though I am only displaying one GridView at a time, do the others datasource are still working behind the scene on the blind side and therefore are putting a load on the server and on its performance. Or I do not have to worry about this because as long as the Panel.Visibility = False, nothing inside that panel is working.

Thanks all for the help

I will mark the best response as solve.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) Loop

discovered an interesting error recently while working with Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) that, surprisingly, had received no ink. Partly what surprises me about this is that the error may require you to rewrite large sections of your code if you haven't previously considered this SharePoint limitation. I'll start with some context, but first of all the error is:

Using jQuery to directly call ASP.NET AJAX page methods

Reduce ASP.NET Page size and complexity using JQuery

This is my first post on asp.net blog. ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery are two different ajax framework. In this post I will show, how we can enhance gridview using ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery. I also compare the implementation of these frameworks. In next posts i will explain more about JQuery and ASP.NET Ajax and also tell you "How to combine the power of both framework". My Future post will related to ASP.NET and related frameworks.

I have 2 web pages. First page has a textbox and a button control.

when I enter test and click on the button , system goes to the second page. And in the second page I want to access the Textbox in the first page. When I try to do this I get the following error.

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Following is my code :

Dim txt As New TextBox

' Find the server name on the previous page
txt = CType(Page.PreviousPage.FindControl("TextBox2"), TextBox)
If Not IsNothing(txt) Then
Response.Write("[Name Not available]")
End If

I know I could do this with session, but I want to use the Page.PreviousPage.FindControl. Any help is greatly appreciated

Unique content within master page based on conditions met

 Hi all-

I would like to present users with unique content based on certain conditions being met as they land on the home page (default.aspx).  The condition logic will be in the VB code behind Page Load event. The content will go in a content placeholder as specificed from the master page.

However, the content change wouldn't be something small (ie making a panel or label visible or not) but rather it will be different HTML,  Divs and databound gridview content.  The HTML content will be stored in the database.

Can someone point me in the right direction for best practices on how to accomplish this?

Launch CMD File From ASPX Page

My organization uses a CMD file to install updated files for a major enterprise application. Currently, we send out an email to users with a link to the file and instructions to run it, BUT inevitably users don't update their machines until their in field and try to start the app.

We're now liking the idea of using an ASPX page to prompt the users to run the updates and to capture the fact that the updates have been run. I realize that we can't capture the success or failure of the update. But we'd like to capture the user accessed the page.

Is it possible to embed into the markup for the page a link to the file on the local intranet that the users can click on to run the file?

The user accessing the page would capture that they did just that. We'd deal with wether or not the update was actually installed or if it failed later with them directly.

Need help redirecting users to personalized page

Hi, first timer here so be gentle.

I've been able to create a cool little website, it's up and running with users logging in and out, I created roles so my administrative team can see sensitive data that's not available to regular and anonymous users.

Now they would like me to create a page specific to each user.  For instance when user A logs in they are redirected to a page that has information that pertains to user A only (like a list of their benefits/ their remaining vacation time). This page needs to be accessible only to user A.

I've watched a ton of the videos but have yet to see one that covers this topic, any help would be great!!!

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Retrieving a variable from a previous page

I'm looking to have a search page where a user will select an item from a listview, then then taken to another page that wil display data based on their original selection.

A user will type in a string and be presented with a list of usernames that are like that string, when they select a user name who's profile they would like to view I would like the page that they're taken to, to be that users profile.

How would I transfer the variable from the search page to the profile page, and when I work on the profile page, how can I access that variable?
