impact of enabling filestream

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi I have a SQL 2008 R2 setup question: Currently we have SQL 2008 R2 installed and having sharepoint 2010 foundation running its dataabse in the SQL 2008 R2.  I would like to enable filestream base on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645923.aspx .  The document didn't say if a restart of the sql engine needed or not.  Since this sql has sharepoint running on it already for a week and is live.  I would like to know the impact of those steps to sharepoint.  Any suggestion?  Thx, Ted.

Enabling Users to Maintain SharePoint Content

When SharePoint is installed as a corporate intranet, there is a considerable amount of effort involved in maintaining the content to keep the site relevant. As we discussed in the first few parts of this series, SharePoint has many built-in features to reduce the burden on the site administrator.

Some areas of the site usually contain less-dynamic information. Internal memos and corporate policies are common examples of this information. One option for this information is to post these documents in a document library. Documents in a library are often stored in a few different formats: Word, Acrobat (PDF), or HTML. Each of these formats has its drawbacks.

Memory Models: Understand the Impact of Low-Lock Techniques in Multithreaded Apps

Because the use of low-lock techniques in your application significantly increases the likelihood of introducing hard-to-find bugs, it is best to use them only when absolutely necessary. Here Vance Morrison demonstrates the limitations and subtleties low-lock techniques so that if you are forced to use them you have a better chance of using them correctly.

Enabling/disabling CascadingDropDown using jquery

Greeting;

I have asp.net dropdownlist control with Ajax CascadingDropDown control.

I also I have asp.net checkbox control. I want to enable/disable CascadingDropDown when the checkbox checked/unchecked using jquery.

I tried diffrent ways but they did not work and if I want to set enable property for the dropdownlist to false it will not work so I have to set the CascadingDropDown enable property to false to disable it but I do not know how.

this is one of the code I tried:

<asp:CheckBox ID="chkWF" runat="server"  onclick="enableDDL"/>

<asp:DropDownList ID="WF" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList>

<cc1:CascadingDropDown ID="WF_CascadingDropDown" runat="server"

Enabling/disabling input controls in a form

I am writing a ASP.NET UserControl and I am trying to incorporate JQuery into this.
The control is a simple form with a few input fields (text, checkbox, select, radio).
The first element in the form is a checkbox. Upon clicking this checkbox I want the all the input elements in the form (except the checkbox control itself) to be enable/disable. I tried writing some of this code but my solution was not getting me anywhere.
Below is the ASP.NET form code. I'd appreciate the help with some code or pointers into what I am doing wrong.

 <asp:Panel ID="pnlInputControls" runat="server">
    <table style="width:100%;">
        <tr>
            <td style="width:50%">
                <asp:CheckBox ID="chkBenefitName" runat="server" Checked="true" TextAlign="Right" ClientIDMode="AutoID" style="padding:0 0 0

Store XML in XML type field or using FILESTREAM

(Posted this in Database Design, but then thought I should post here as well)   Hi All,   I am trying to figure out what would be the best method for storing xml documents in the db...if we should use an XML type field or if we should use the newly introduced FILESTREAM? We would have a need to shred those documents for queries and possibly use the FULL TEXT SEARCH to allow for user defined searches on those documents.  Does anyone have any thoughts on either approach for SQL server 2008?    Always apprecaite the input I get on this forum...very helpful.   --B

FILESTREAM in sql compact

I'm try to create a table that contains blob(in sqlce case, it's IMAGE) and using the FILESTREAM attribute 1) although i do find the doc on sql server 2008 ( e.g. VARBINARY(MAX) FILESTREAM ), but i couldn't find any on sqlce. I did try using IMAGE FILESTREAM, but it didn't work. Any idea? 2) From the doc., sql server 2008 seems to create a file in the file system. However in sqlce, does it mean any insertion to this table, will lead to creation of a file in the filesystem?

Enabling SA account on SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi I'm setting up a SharePoint 2010 development machine and hit a snag. I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 with the default instance (devserv1\mssqlserver). That's configured for mixed mode authent and I can login using either Windows Auth or SA no worries. Note that it's just a local machine account and NOT a domain account (this is an isolated VM with no domain) I installed SharePoint 2010 on the machine. I don't recall changing any settings and during the install, it has created a new instance called devserv1\sharepoint. I can login to it using Windows Authentication, but I don't appear to have any permissions. Also, the SA user is disabled, but I can't enable it, because I get a permissions error when using my windows account to do it... One thing I noticed that is a bit weird is the version numbers of the 2 instances - the first/default instance is 10.5.0.* whereas the one created by SharePoint install is 10.0.0.2513 or thereabouts - i.e., it's SQL 2008 but not R2 which I don't reallty understand. Anyway, how can I enable the sa account on the sharepoint instance? Thanks.weirdbeardmt, PhD, BSc. Silly name, but lots of letters.
