Error handling on Connection Manager Expression

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I am using a connection manager with an expression to set the connection string. (see my question http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/1ea71f9a-df5c-4c1c-a2fd-9e24632afbd8) I would like to put some error handling just incase things go wrong. Can anybody give me some tips on where to place error handling?Mr Shaw

What is the exact meaning of OleDB error "Connection failure" and handling recommendation?

Hi, I am not sure if I can ask this question appropriately.  I'm a novice in OleDB programming.

I'm now maintaining a piece of C++ code which uses OleDB to connect to SQL2k5.  The program creates an OleDB connection to the SQL server and continously to execute SQL command via the connection without any problem until we get an OleDB error.  Using CDBErrorInfo::GetBasicErrorInfo() to get the error information, it shows that hrError = 0x80004005 and dwMinor = 0; and using CDBErrorInfo::GetAllErrorInfo() to get the other details of the error record, it gives me a description of "Connection failure".  Now could anyone please help to tell me what exactly does this error mean ?  Does it mean the connection between my program and the SQL server has broken ?  And how shall I handle/recover it in the code ? Should I just throw the existing connection away and recreate new OleDB connection ?

Thank you very much

Getting error when using a variable in connection manager

In my SSIS package I am trying to loop the database servers to get the information. I have defined the variable and assigned server name to it, I am able to test it using script task in For Loop Container. I have created a connection Manager called MultiServer and passing the ServerName Variable thru Expression as @[User::SRV_Conn]. When I click evaluate expression, it is showing as 0. Now in Data Flow I selected a new OLE DB Source and when I try to select MultiServer I am getting error Hresult:0x80004005 Server is not found or not accessible. For testing purpose I have created the OLE DB for the error server and it works fine. Not sure what I have missed. I used http://www.simple-talk.com/sql/ssis/using-ssis-to-monitor-sql-server-databases-/ and trying to do the same. Please help me. Thanks.

Error while using exception handling block el 4.1

Hi Folks,

i am trying to use tyhe exception handling block of Enterprise library 4.1.

I just createda polisy and used IndexOutOfRangeException and added a replace handler and a logging handler to it.

I am using the NotifyRethrow PostHandlingAction to the exception.

During runtime I am getting an exception on the HandleException event, The exception is added below:

I'm having a doozy of a problem, and can't find a solution.  I have a WFC Web Service installed to a pair of servers, and accessed through a load balancer.  I am accessing the service from an ASP.NET client app, also via WCF.  The Client is not load balanced.

I'm getting an intermittant error:

TCP error code 10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond x.x.x.x:80.

I can reproduce this error with about 20% reliability if I execute the exact same page request on the client from 2 browsers at the same time.  When the problem occurs, the successful p

Error Handling: Throwing Custom Exception Types from a Managed COM+ Server Application

Exception handling semantics in .NET are based on type, so you can create custom exceptions that have their own properties and methods. In .NET, exceptions are first-class citizens, and since they're the built-in error handling mechanism, all .NET-compliant languages must support exceptions. In addition, COM+ services are available to .NET code as Enterprise Services, so you can leverage exceptions in your Enterprise Services design. In this article the author describes custom exceptions, throwing exceptions across COM interop boundaries, and working with Enterprise Services.

.NET Exceptions: Make the Transition from Traditional Visual Basic Error Handling to the Object-Orie

If you're used to Visual Basic 6.0 and you're making the transition to Microsoft .NET, you will find that error handling is quite different from what you've used for years. Visual Basic .NET uses a more object-oriented solution to signaling and responding to unexpected problems while your program is running. This approach, called structured exception handling, has a number of advantages over the On Error statements provided in previous versions of Visual Basic. For instance, exceptions give you lots more information about exactly what went wrong in your app. To help you take advantage of this modern error handling paradigm, this article will show you how to raise and respond to exceptions, as well as how to create your own custom exception classes.

Propagate Error Info: Use ATL and C++ to Implement Error-Handling COM Objects

Predefined error codes returned from HRESULT aren't always much help for debugging COM C++ code. The C++ macros provided with this article produce an XML file listing the error and its context to make debugging easier. This article begins with an overview of error handling in COM, then discusses the COM interfaces used in the macros. It explains how C++ exceptions are caught and converted to COM-compatible error information, how events are logged with the event viewer, and how context is reported in the description string of IErrorInfo. The macros handle logic errors and errors returned by an object or API.

Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression

Good Day Gurus!

I have a Excel user application which has a user form (named 'Registo') that displays criteria and an image that has been entered in it's corresponding spreadsheet. This works the way it should.  There's also the ability to search the spreadsheet via a form (by clicking 'Pesquisar' button) this opens a search form. However, I having a bit of a problem with it. When I try to search for something it basically doesn't do anything at all. It just sits there. So I tried to debug it and I think I'm having a problem with either the JET db engine or somethign with teh query or maybe I don't have the correct reference.

I 'borrowed' this Excel application from another forum because it's exactly what I'm looking for! However, I suck at vb.

So I was hoping somebody could take a look at the code and see if I'm missing something?  I'm kinda' desparate to get this working because I'm been trying to figure it out for days and I'm running out of time.  Cry

System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a rec

Hello Guys,         I am getting following exception while web service (ASMX) is returning the response. <!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style> System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.     <!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style>                                                     InnterException (System.IO.Exception): "Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."       I think either the Asp.net web server is closing the connection or the response is too long.   Following is my simple code.    1)   namespace JFA.IndiePay.BusinessAccess { public class VerTexProcessor { public DataSet ProcessVerTexForBatch(DataSet dsInputRequest) { DataSet dsResponse = new DataSet(); //Call vertex web service here. VertexService.Service texCalculator = new VertexService.Service(); texCalculator.Timeout = 500000;

Excel Connection Manager Problem

I am building a package that has 2 tasks that need to use the same excel connection manager. I use a execute sql task to dynamically build a table from the headers of the excel sheet  ,then I use an excel source component to load the data from the sheet. However when I try to edit the excel source and switch the data access mode to a variable and select the variable(for the path), when I try to close the editor I get this message 'S:\myfolder'.  It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. I need this package to access the same folder each time because the files will be placed in that folder. This package also has a branch for loading a text file into sql server. It access the same folder but uses a flatfile connection manager It looks like permissions on the folder are correct

Error in Replication: connection was chosen as the victim in a deadlock

I'm using a merge replication with SQL 2008 at server and SQL Express 2008 on subscribers. We are using around 100 subscribers. I'm getting the following error once two subscribers replicate at the same time. The final number of transaction uploaded to the server is always arong 100 and a similar number in the downloads, so the amount of transaction is not an issue. I'he been playing with the merge profile with no luck. The merge process could not replicate one or more INSERT statements to the 'Publisher'. A stored procedure failed to execute. Troubleshoot by using SQL Profiler. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147200990) Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147200990 A query executing on Publisher 'xxxxx' failed because the connection was chosen as the victim in a deadlock. Please rerun the merge process if you still see this error after internal retries by the merge process. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 1205) Get help: http://help/1205 Any idea? This is getting to a critical point where transactions are not being uploaded to the server.  Additonally, there are a lot of blocks between the subscribers, and they are mainly associated with table MSmerge_partition_groups

SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.
