.Net Framework 4.0 preventing v2.0 aspnet_regiis from Running

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hi Folks, We have a ASP.net 2.0 web app with an installer which appears to hit an issue with .Net Framework 4.0. This has occurred on XP and Windows 7. Seems to happen every time. During the installation, we call aspnet_regiis for various tasks such as encrypting the web.config. If .Net 4 is installed this throws the error: --------------------------- aspnet_regiis.exe - .NET Framework Initialization Error --------------------------- Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application. --------------------------- OK    --------------------------- Running the same commands from the commandline works correctly.  Anyone have any idea what is going on? Thanks, Davy

High Availability: Keep Your Code Running with the Reliability Features of the .NET Framework

Reliability requires the capacity to execute a sequence of operations in a deterministic way, even under exceptional conditions. This allows you to ensure that resources are not leaked and that you can maintain state consistency without relying on application domain unloading (or worse, process restarts) to fix any corrupted state. Unfortunately, in the.NET Framework, not all exceptions are deterministic and synchronous, which makes it difficult to write code that is always deterministic in its ability to execute a predetermined sequence of operations. In this article Stephen Toub will show you why, and explore features of the .NET Framework 2.0 that help you to mitigate these situations and write more reliable code.

Windows 7 - WPF - Framework 3.5 - Content not displaying in developer or when running

Help. I seem to have broken WPF 3.5 on my development box.  If I bring up VS2008 and create a new, blank WPF app, it does not display the designer.  If fact, I can see the desktop wallpaper through VS 2008.  If I run the app, I get a window with the same see-through properties.  Plus if I drag the app window around, it leaves artifiacts all over the screen. If I create a new WPF 4.0 app in VS 2010 - no problem.  If I target the app to 3.5 - the designer does not go crazy, but I get the same run-time issue as with VS 2008. Please help! L. Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Creating a Generic Entity Framework 4.0 Repository

With .NET 4.0 right around the corner, I thought it would be cool to download Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and start playing around with the next release of Entity Framework.

The initial release of Entity Framework came with a great deal of criticism. To make matters worse, there was a large uproar when it was rumored that Microsoft would be abandoning LINQ to SQL, in favor of Entity Framework. This was because, at the time, many developers felt Entity Framework was an inferior technology to LINQ to SQL. To set things right, Microsoft proactively moved forward with improving Entity Framework, in time for the 4.0 release of the .NET Framework. This is good news because my initial impressions, so far, have been nothing but positive.

ASP.NET 4.0 Dynamic Data and Many to Many Entity Framework Entities

I did not play much with Dynamic Data controls in VS2008 and just made a cool discovery in VS2010 Beta 2. This may not even be new, but as I'm sitting 30,000+ feet over the Atlantic ocean, I don't have access to VS2008 at the moment to check.

Entity Framework 4 Tips for WinForms Development

I've been recently working on a smart client (WinForms) application backed by Entitiy Framework 4 (EF4) on Visual Studio 2010. In this blog post I will try to give you some tips regarding some limitations and points to be careful about EF4.

Bar Code Scanners with the .NET Compact Framework

Summary: Learn how to make your applications use bar code scanners in a generic way-ndependent of the specific bar code scanners that are used on different devices. Using the design patterns Façade and Factory, the implementation not only supports multiple bar code scanners, but it also makes it easy to add support for other bar code scanners. After a brief discussion about bar code scanners and the bar code scanner pattern, a download code sample, written in C#, demonstrates the use of the pattern and technologies.

Serial Communication with the .NET Compact Framework

Learn how to make your applications communicate over a serial port and how to handle common issues when implementing serial solutions. After a general discussion about serial communication and a common serial communication standard, this article demonstrates a practical use of the technologies through sample source code written in C#.

Show grand total running total in GridView Footer

In many scenarios we need to display Running total as well as Grand total in GridView footer. In this post i will try to explain in an easy way that how we can display running total & Grand total in a GridView footer combindly. To explain this solution using an example here i use a sales order report. The report contains all sales order amount in a tabular way. I will use a GridView to display sales order amount and use GridView footer to display Running total & Grand total. Let we have a customer table with id and name column plus an orders table with OrderID,CustomerID,OrderDate & Amount. Now our goal is to show all customers order with amount as well as page wise running total & grand total. Note that running total is necessary when you enable paging in a GridView where as Grand total is always you can consider.

Dear all,

in my MVC 2 application, and in the shared Master Page I wrote this little script for menu handling :

<script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () {

     $('#nav li').hover(

            $('ul', this).slideUp(100);

The script, that shows menu items when the
