Citrix server slowing down due to ASP.NET Website

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello,

I have created an ASP.NET website using Visual Studio 2008. It is deployed to a local server in my office running Windows Server 2003. This intranet website is accessed by about 200 employees at a given time from 3 different corners of the world.

It runs fine on a local browser. But it is terribly hogging about 25% of the CPU memory when run in a Citrix environment. It runs in the IE 8 with IE 7 compatibility mode.

Many users open two browsers at a time to run different pages of this website.

The webpage has AJAX toolkit controls and lots of CSS defined.

Does anyone have any idea or experience regarding this?

Thanks!

Run website on local server

Hi,

I am new to this new version of Webmatrix. I developed a couple of web sites on the previous version about 4 years ago.

I have downloaded and installed all of the recommended products using Microsoft Web Platform Installer including IIS Express, Web Matrix and Visual Studio 2010 Express.

1) I followed the Start From Scratch and set up the Hello World web site.

When I click on Run, if I am not online Internet Explorer opens but does not display the Hello World site.

If I am online and click on Run the Hello World site does display.

2) The new Webmatrix does not not have different tabs like the previous one did: Design & HTML & Code. To see the Design I launched Visual Studio 2010 Express but it still only shows me the code. In Tools/Options I have selected both Design view and Split View but both still only show me the code.

Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

Upgraded website to AJAX 3.5, I get js errors on production web server

Hello,

I recently upgraded our website to include some AJAX 3.5 modal popup extenders.   The site is working fine on my development machine, unfortunately when I published it over to our production web server (running IIS6) I'm getting javascript errors every time a page containing one of these controls loads.  Here's what shows up in the Firefox Error Console:

Error: $get("scriptmanager1_hiddenfield") is null

SBS 2008 Premium Edition - Securing SQL Server while allowing access from e-commerce website.

Reposted from SBS forum:

I'm currently planning an SBS 2008 Premium Edition installation for a client currently running a five old Win NT / Server 2003  machines to serve a small company (fewer than 50 people).  A complicating factor is that one of their e-commerce websites is currently served directly from their production SQL server - a security risk made necessary by the limitations of their e-commerce software.  In the SBS 2008 plan I would like to protect the production SQL server from the Internet.  My question - is there a way of replicating the production SQL database in real time on a second SQL server outside the firewall?  If not, what other options are available?

I'm not an SQL specialist so I'd also be grateful for links to useful web resources on the topic.

Thanks in advance.

Website rendered differently on IE only when hosted on server

I have a strange problem that I am trying to find a solution to or even only know why does this happen.

I built a website using ASP.NET, when I run the website locally it looks very normal (I am speaking Style and CSS wise) on all the browsers (including IE8). And when I deploy this website to the test server which has Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6, the applications looks normal too on all the browsers except IE8. I did not try other versions of IE but I have a requirement to have this website working on IE8. Some tweaking on the CSS solves some of the problems but I do not want to go through each and every tiny detail and rework my whole CSS. There are even some problem which cannot be resolved.

I have no clue why is this happening. It should be something either with the OS or the application server because those are the only differences between my machine and the server. On my machine I have Windows 7 Enterprise and I was test the website on the ASP.NET development server.

I hope anyone can help me understanding what's happening.

How can I download an Excel file saved on the same server as an asp.Net website?

Hello,

I able to successfully see all the Excel files in the given folder using the datagrid and code below. Now I would like to be able to click the link to the file, or add a button, to get a download file dialog box. Can someone please help me.

Thanks!

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Making Ajax Callbacks to the Server Using jQuery with ASP.NET

In the first part of this article series I introduced jQuery's functionality and how it provides a rich client side programming model. This time around I'll expand on these concepts and show you how you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET using it as an AJAX backend to retrieve data. I'll also discuss how you can create ASP.NET controls and otherwise interact with jQuery content from ASP.NET pages in WebForms.

jQuery is just a JavaScript library so it will work seamlessly with ASP.NET both from page code as well as through backend driven code using the Page.ClientScript object or ScriptManager. You can use jQuery on its own as a client side and Ajax library that communicates with ASP.NET or you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET AJAX. The two actually complement each other quite well as jQuery provides functionality that the ASP.NET AJAX library does not and vice versa. For the most part the interaction between the two libraries is trouble free except for a few very rare edge cases.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Publishing SQL Server Database using Publishing Wizard : Tips & Tricks

We can use SQL Server Publishing Wizard to deploy our local Database to remote hosting server/production server. This feature is available in SQL Server 2008/VWD 2008.

Below is the complete step by step guide of this process.

CLR Integration With Microsoft SQL Server

Transact-SQL provides as much flexibility as possible but, because it is not a real programming language, it has some shortcomings about many issues (memory management, exception handling, debugging, file processing (or streaming), object-orientation (classes), or thread management). Transact-SQL also lacks features of normal libraries (arrays, collections, serialization, expressions, or string manipulations, etc).

IP Address Blocking or Restriction in SQL Server

"is it possible to block connections to SQL Server based on IP address". As far as now there is no official way in SQL Server to block the connections in SQL Server based on IP address. However this can be done from the OS end, we have the following three options available, refer HERE for more.

.Firewall
.IPSec
.RRAS IP Filter
