My Site - My profile - Edit my profile - required fields

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi All, I'm having an issue with the Edit my profile page from my sites (my profile page).  When I setup required fields through the User properties setting in central admin and then go back to Edit my profile page and try and submit the form with nothing in a required field I get no error/warning that I must enter something in the required field. For example I've setup a policy to make 'Ask me about' required, I've then went into the User properties to confirm the 'Ask me about' property has the policy setting to 'Required'.  Go back to my edit my profile page and try and submit the form with nothing in the ‘Ask me about‘ field, and the form submits with no error or warning telling me that I've not completed 'ask me about'. Any ideas, am I doing something wrong?

Add new fields Profile database

I have new "Fields" which is not in the AD of my users. I want to add these new "Fields/ Columns" in the Profile database?

The objective is to create custom page in MOSS to facilitate the HR to update these new fields for the users.

How to achieve this?

MySite user profile site creation of My Content page is created as provisioned failed (unprovisioned

I've been trying to troubleshoot our User Profile Sync and have noticed the profile pages weren't getting updated with everything.  Most content was but things like memberships and the content tabs weren't.  I also saw this error in ULS: ProfSynch: Exception attempting to enumerate site 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e for ContentDB 23a6e3ef-6d56-4bde-825e-95c6924e2f91: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ProfileSynchronizationInternalException: ProfSynch: The site with ID 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e cannot be synchronized due to an unprovisioned root web.      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.GetSynchInfoForSite(SqlDataReader dr, SynchInfo info)      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.<get_Elements>d__0.MoveNext() I checked in the MySite database under the webs table and noticed all the My Content sites for all of our users had the flag column with the number 1315 in them - (meaning unprovisioned as the error above states).  Cross checking with the User Sync Profile database under the SiteSynch table I noticed all of the sites have NULL for the value under both the LastSynch and ChangeToken columns (The User Profile Service Application - User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization  timer job takes care of populating that).&

Profile EMM fields error when using Mysites cross farm (SP2010 RTM)

I have a question that took me a while already. I set up an evironment at a Customer of mine as following:

2 farms:

Farm 1 (publishing farm (PF)):
Service applications (User profile and metadata services)

Farm 2 (consuming farm (CF)):
Webapplications (my.portal.nl webapplication).

I published all the services on the PF and succesfully made a connection to the service throughout the CF. The mysite host location is created under the my.portal.nl webapp.

Everything seems to work perfect. The only thing that doesn't work is the following: When I open the my site host and want to edit my profile properties all the fields that need keywords or metadata are not reachable. When I put the my site host location on the publishing farm --> IT WORKS....

I get the red error beneath every EMM field that says: "the service is temporarily disabled...."

I believe I missed a configuration step somewhere in de connection part between the webapp and the service app when going cross farm????

I think problem is somewhere in the combination of Cross farm, Managed Metadata and User profile service....

Can anybody help me with this problem??

Thanks in advance!

Search, My Profile fields, and NoCrawl...?

We've implemented User Profile Service Application and the Search Service Application. We've added custom fields to My Profile, and tested searching for them. Search doesn't seem to return any results. It doesn't report on any errors, however I've got one warning that might be related:

MySites has got NoCrawl property set to on.

Is this the cause for the Search not finding anything? Can you explain why it seems to be 'best practice' to keep NoCrawl on for the MySites application?

How to retrieve a user profile for any site member

I am new to asp.net's membership controls. I am trying to figure out how to make a public profile page that will display information about a site member to other users. I thought I would be able to use the profile class and just pass in a parameter such as user name. But I tried:

Profile.GetProfile("username") 'Where username = name of profile I want to retrieve

However, if the user is logged in this codee just brings back their details, not those of the username requested. What am I doing wrong?

Update User Profile info from another SharePoint site

Hi All,

I have MOSS 2007 up and running, and the Staff Profile is maintained by the users.

Now there is another NEW sharepoint 2010 apps planning. In order to avoid the duplication of staff profile in SharePoint 2010, the requirement is to update the SharePoint 2010 Staff Profile from the existing MOSS 2007.

Is it possible? Any help.

Visual Studio, Windows 7, Web Site, Profile Exception, HELP!

I have a major problem with a website project using visual studio 2005...

I upgraded my PC to windows 7 X64, I installed vs 2005.

I made sure all components/references matched my old Winxp PC.

With all that said...

I make no changes to the project.

My project works fine in production environment.

I publish the unchanged project to my webserver, and I get the following error when accessing the site...

[ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.

   System.Web.Profile.ProfileBase.CreateMyInstance(String username, Boolean isAuthenticated) +79

   System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) +99
   System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +50
   System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() +141

I re-publish from my xp box, the error goes away.

The problem occurs on any page that trys to access the Profile object.

I have even tried converting site to .net

Profile sync required before each audience compilation

We are creating audiences by using the user is a "member of" a security group in AD.   When we add a member to the AD group directly from users and computers in AD, the audience is not updated after the addition and a compilation run of that associated audience occurs.   The only way the newly added user shows up in the compilation is when we run a full profile import and follow that up with a re-compilation of that audience.   Not a good option if the AD store is large, that being the case here.  Has anyone found a better way to do this?

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

Configuring Profile Image Export in SharePoint 2010

It's no secret that I am thrilled with the new social features of SharePoint 2010. I am most excited about the new Profile Picture handling. I strongly believe that the more we can show the faces of our colleagues to one another the more connected we will feel. Clearly Microsoft feels that way as witnessed by the many features that make use of the Profile Image like the Activity Feed and Colleagues list

Profile not being save after redirect.

I am trying to save values into a Profile on Page1, then redirect to Page2 and access those values.  However, after the page redirects the profile values are blank as if they were never saved.   When stepping through the code I can see that they are being save on Page 1.

I suppose I could use session variables to store the information but I don't understand why saving the profile doesn't work.

private void PayWithPayPal()
        ProfileCommon profile = this.Profile;

        if (Global.CurrentUserName.Length > 0)
            profile = this.Profile.GetProfile(Global.CurrentUserName);
        profile.FirstName = uxFirstNameShipping.Text;
        profile.LastName = uxLastNameBilling.Text;
        profile.ShippingAddress.AddressLineOne = uxAddressLineOneShipping.Text;
        profile.ShippingAddress.AddressLineTwo = uxAddressLineTwoShipping.Text;
        profile.ShippingAddress.City = uxCityShipping.Text;
        profile.ShippingAddress.State = uxStateShipping.Text;
        profile.ShippingAddress.ZipCode = uxPostalCodeShipping.Text;
