Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Today I notice my personal site rebuild again when I accessed. Not all of the people but part of the people that had already built their own site were not deleted or disappeared. Last week I posted an article on my blog site so that the term of this problem was occurred between last Saturday and yesterday(Wednesday). Is there something similar with you? I'm terribly worried about sharepoint 2010.

SharePoint 2010 Site Template forces personal storage? (Using SimplePublishing GhostableInLibrary)

I have a major issue with a project I am working on.

First off, I need to have shared storage for the site, so once an administrator adds a web part and configures it properly, it'll show to the end users as well.

Seconly, I need to have a navigation that displays the pages the site contains.

I've tried to search help using Google, but I can't seem to be able to figure out the magic words to find anything useful.

Here's the onet.xml if someone is able to tell what I am doing wrong:

Error creating MySite: There has been an error creating the personal site

Hi,

When creating a MySite users get this error message:

There has been an error creating the personal site. Contact your site administrator for more information.

Here is our setup:

  • 1 web application for central administration
  • 1 web application for ssp administration site
  • 1 web application at port 80 (collaboration portal)
    • this web app uses (and requires) SSL
    • managed path: "mysite" (explicit inclusion)
    • managed path: "personal"(wildcard inclusion)
    • site collection based on the MySite Host on the "mysite" managed path
  • SSP: personal site provider: https://[portalurl]:443/mysite/
  • SSP: personal site location: "personal"

Initially we hosted the the MySites in a separate web application, but we migrated them to this new setup. The users who had a mysite before the migration have no issue, they can get to their mysite just fine.

If I look in the SharePoint logs I find this error message: "Value does not fall within the expected range"

Any ideas what we are doing wrong?

Here's an extract of the logfile:

There has been an error creating the personal site. User cannot be found

Few of my Domain Users are able to create MySite and few of them are not, though they are having same permission.

There has been an error creating the personal site. Contact your site administrator for more information.

Event Viewer is showing :

The exception was: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.PersonalSiteCreateException: A failure was encountered while attempting to create the site. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: User cannot be found.

Below are the DLL versions of my installation.

Unable to save Office 2007 document to SharePoint My Site Personal Documents document library

...also when Office documents are saved to document library they open as Read-only and cannot be saved back to the same document library.

This only happens in my production SharePoint 2007 environment from client XP and IE7 machine.  It does not happen in developement environment (which mirrors production) from client XP/IE7 machines.

Save works fine to SharePoint document libraries from client Win 7 and IE8 machines in both production and development environments.

This only happens when attempting to save to a My Site Personal Documents document library.  Any other document library this behavior does not exist from XP or Win 7 machine.

What settings controls ones ability to save to a personal My site document library.  What setting could be different between prod and dev installations?  It only happens

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Take a tour of your SharePoint site

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.

Tips to Improve Your ASP.NET Web site performance

ASP.NET has been developed with lots of features which makes developer life easy. Start from ViewState, PostBack, Server Controls , User Controls and etc. All of them can make your web development experience fun and easy, but improper use of them can cause your site performance slowdown. Most of the controls generate overhead to the client and server. Therefore in this article, I I will list out about things you can do and don't to improve your ASP.NET website performance.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 1 of 2

In this first part of the two part series, Steven covers the differences between Site and Application pages in SharePoint 2007, why each may be used in various circumstances, and prepares for the construction of a menu located application page. After a brief introduction he examines the concept of Site Pages and Application Pages separately in detail with supported screenshots.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 2 of 2

As the second article in a two part series, Steven examines the attributes and details of a SharePoint 2007 application page, including the construction and feature deployment of the same page based project. Since this is a WSS level objective, as opposed to MOSS, you will not need MOSS to work with the code included in this project. Windows Server 2003, WSS, and Visual Studio 2005 are all that is needed, with no additional add-ons. He provides a detailed analysis of each step involved in the creation and deployment of the project.

The best site i ever seen
