Customize SharePoint Library Menu Items

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 03, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, In a library with file, the menu items available for any file is: View Properties, Edit Properties, Manage Permissions, Edit in <ApplicationName>, Delete, Send To, Check Out, Workflows, Alert Me . Now, I want to get rid of Edit Properties, Manage Permissions, Edit in <ApplicationName>, Delete, Check Out . Added to this is the need to remove the option in the Actions menu that states "Open With Windows Explorer " and finally the "Upload " menu is to go out. Any JScript for this or a file I need to edit to get this result? I need this because the business wants it out, its bordering on security. ThanksYou've only got one life; help as many people as you can, and enjoy it while it lasts.

Can I open the "new" menu in a SharePoint Document Library using Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

When a user, who uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking, says "new" when viewing a Document Library the default content type is selected and the associated application (e.g. Microsoft Word) is launched. This scenario is okay for Content Type selection since the Microsoft Office applications will prompt for the metadata once the file is saved.

If the user needs to create new folders in the Document Library however they need to expand the "new" dropdown menu.

What is the best way for someone using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to expand the "new" menu for a Document Library in SharePoint?

Cannot add SQL Server 2008 R2 Report items to SharePoint Server 2010 document library

Using account which is the primary parent site administrator, can upload RDS and RDL files to the document library (however, cannot open report). User is also a domain admin with SA on the database instances. Cannot add Report Data Source with "New Document" icon. The permissions granted to user '[domain]\[user]' are insufficient for performing this operation. Under "Site Settings", "Managed Shared Schedules" fails with same error. Attempting to deploy from BIDS results in the same permissions error. Sharepoint Server 2010, Report Server 2008 R2. RS and SP databases hosted on remote server (SQL Server 2008 R2). All connections (SharePoint services, RS services, users) except SQLAgent authenticating to remote SQL Server with Kerberos (all SPNs look correct). Single site, site collection "/". Document directory called "Reports". Windows Integrated Security (Negotiate). How would I troubleshoot/solve problem?

SharePoint - Hide items in 'Site Actions' menu

I would like to hide a number of items currently listed in the 'Site Actions' menu of a publishing site I've created.

I've deployed a feature that adds a link to the 'Site Actions' menu that links to a custom application.

In this feature would I be able to also specify which 'Site Actions' items to hide?

This is very urgent and high priority business requirement. Kindly help me to accomplish the below task.

Specifying path to external items (Sharepoint Document Library)

I continue to have trouble getting a subreport to display from within a main report that is stored in a SharePoint Foundation 2010 document library.  My report server is configured in SharePoint Integrated Mode.

A TechNet article, Specifying Paths to External Items (Report Builder 3.0 and SSRS) [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd220423.aspx], includes the following instructions:

When you specify a path for an external item in a dialog box for actions, subreports, or images, you can browse directly to the report server and select the item. Browsing to an item and selecting it directly is the recommended way to specify a drillthrough report or subreport. That way the correct parameter names will be available in a drop-down list when you specify report or subreport parameters. When you change an item path to point to a different item, you must manually update the correct parameter names and values as needed.

On a report server configured in SharePoint integrated mode, you must include the file extension .rdl. The path can be one of the following:

  • A full path to the item.  On a SharePoint site: You must specify the report name in an expression, with the full URL of the item and the file extension .rdl. For example, ="http://server/site/lib

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.

Creating SharePoint items with CreateItemActivity

Instead of creating new list items from code in your workflow you can use CreateItemActivity. CreateItemActivity can be used for creating list items or files. Properties of interest for this activity are the following (most of them are self-explanatory):

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

How to Customize the Add Comment 'Items on this list require content approval...' notification in

WSS 3.0:

If content approval is turned on, the Add Comment section displays a fairly ugly notification. Is there any way I can customize that section through e.g. CSS or SPDesigner?

I'd like to change at least the text, and preferably the yellow exclamation image, and also the background if possible.

Add edit drop down menu so I can edit pdf files in SharePoint

I have a pdf file that I'd like to open and edit.  The pdf file just opens, and doesn't ask if it should be opened as a read only or edit option.  My colleague is able to select edit mode as a drill down, but I can't figure out how to add this functionality into my document library... does anyone have a solution?

Menu items of Welcome control behaves incorrect in non-IE browsers.

We are using wss 3.0 sp2

I am referring to the welcome control that is part of standard sharepoint pages. This is the in the masterpage. The welcome contrrol has options such as 'sign-in as different user' , 'signout' and so on. When user takes the mouse and tries to click on the sub-menu it doesn't work as if the menu item is not getting focussed (however up/down arrow with keyboard works fine).

I know that sharepoint sites are not best when viewed with firefox, safari, chrome etc  but is there a fix for this? Is it do with 'z' index setting or something? Can this be fixed through javascript?

Please share your views/solution.
