Hi,I want to give rights to a user on workgroup to access a computer on a domain. The computer in a workgroup and server on a domain are part of a network. What rights should I give so that I can access that computer. Please also know that I need it for impersonation. My webserver is on a workgroup, however the file server is on a domain. I want to access the files on the file server from my application on webserver.I have tried number of things. May be this might work.Thanks.

User rights stripped on subsites

Hello, I create a subsite, select  "use unique permissions", and create the accessgroups: visitors, members and owners.  I then enter som testusers in the visitors and members-groups, log on as them to make sure the testusers have the correct access-levels.  I also make sure my newly created access-groups are the only groups with access to the subsite.  20 minutes later, the testusers no longer have access to the subsite.  What kind of service running on the server would strip these rights?  When I log on with the owner-account, I can still see the testusers in the correct groups, but they no longer have access.  Anyone else with the same problem? I'm hoping for some good suggestions! Thanks, Kjersti

Fine-grained User Permissions, create and view with restricted edit rights

I'm running a Sharepoint 2007 installation which is slowly being rolled out through the organisation. We have a group of calendars which are shared between 14 executive PAs. I've been asked to lock down the permissions so that whilst any of the users can add items, only the user who created the item can subsequently edit this. I thought I could handle this by creating a new permission level with create and view rights only, which does what it should, however the user can now no longer edit their own appointments either.

Is there a way that I can give the item creator specific permissions on their item by default?

Report viewer web part: Dependency of parameter choices on user rights?

Hi there,

I am wondering if it is possible to restrict the choices for a parameter depending on the user rights. For instance, if an "administrator" can select three different options for one particular parameter, a "normal user" should only be able to choose from two.

I am using Sharepoint 2007 and Reporting Services 2005.

Best wishes

User with MyLinks rights and no MySite rights: how to customize error page

Using MOSS2007

We have sharepoint users that have the right to create and manage their own 'My Links' but without right to create MySite.
When they go to  Manage links they are on the page My Links with a breadcrumb trail to mysite.
They click on MySite, Sharepoint starts to create a new Mysite , but then displays an error page that says 'You do not have permissions to have lists and pages within My Site.' This is correct.

But here comes the problem: They have no more means of going back to the Corporate Sharepoint site. The pages they have all link to My site. They cannot use the Back button on the Browser, because that one redirects them to the Mysite creation and immediately they are shown the error page again 'You do not have permissions to have lists and pages within My Site'.

All they can do now is to click on the Home button (the Corporate sharepoint site is set ashome page) or open the Back button history and go back 2 pages. Or they could stop the browser and start up again , which shows them the Corporate sharepoint site.

I have noticed some error pages have a 'go back link' , e.g. the error page in Business data list web part , if the BDC has changed and the web part can no longer display.

So , how do I go about to change the error page that says 'You do not have permissions to have lists and pages

DirectorySecurity / calculating effective rights for the current windows user?

How do you calculate the effective rights for the current windows user and a specified directory?  I see how you can retrieve the DACL for a Directory using: Directory.GetAccessControl.

I see that you can get all the access rules for the DACL using:

var authRules = myDirectorySecurity.GetAccessRules(true, true, typeof(System.Security.Principal.NTAccount));

This seems to return all acess control entries for the given DACL.  I need to determine the effective rights for the current windows user against a give directory.

How can I retrieve or calculate the effective rights for a given user on a given folder? I basically need to determine if the current windows user has read/write/delete permissions for a given folder.

Rights for a user in a restricted AD OU

I'm trying to set up rights on our Sharepoint website for my admin account, which is in an OU with restrictions on it (i.e. only a Domain Admin can make changes to the users in this OU).  Unfortunately because it's restricted, Sharepoint doesn't seem to be able to see the users in that OU so I can'd add the users as Owners of the site.  Does anyone know of a way to get around this?

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to track the changes of user contacts(colleagues) by using SharePoint API

We might have seen colleague tracker web part which keep tracks the changes made in our contacts/colleagues details like profile/lists/sites. The same tracking mechanism can be implemented by using MOSS API in any custom web part/ web control/ feature/web service...

UserProfile.GetColleagueChanges is the method which returns all changes happened with the contacts, this method also accepts a Query (UserProfileChangeQuery) where we can specify different parameters to filter the changes

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.
