Error while running Ajax Enable website....?

Hi, I just installed and ran a simple sample and got this error below. I'm running using VS 2005. I have installed ASP.NET AJAX Extensions 1.0 and ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit. Look like the tool kit version is 3.5 that is not compatible with ASP.NET AJAX EXTENSION 1.0? But I couldn't locate the ASP.NET AJAX CONTROL TOOLKIT version 2.0. Any idea how to corect this error? Thanks Compilation Error Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Running the "Publish WebSite" option in VS

A few months ago I ran accross a web site that explained the advantage of running a build on your website via the Publish WebSite optoin but I really did not pay much attention to it back then because I was just starting out.  Now I have two large website projects I am working on that take a very long time to load a page that was changed or any page after the server is restarted. One thing I do remember from that site was that doing the publish on my webpage would fix this long load time. I have tried to find that page (or other pages that explain the publish process and how to use it) but I can't everything I come up with is on uploading websites and such but not on the VS process, I tried using the built in VS help but even after a reinstall it is broken and says the help is not installed. Can anyone either anwser the following (probibily simple questisons) or point me to a website that can? 1. What do all the options in the Publish Website do? 2.  What is the difference between running the Publish Website and running the Build WebSite?

Show grand total running total in GridView Footer

In many scenarios we need to display Running total as well as Grand total in GridView footer. In this post i will try to explain in an easy way that how we can display running total & Grand total in a GridView footer combindly. To explain this solution using an example here i use a sales order report. The report contains all sales order amount in a tabular way. I will use a GridView to display sales order amount and use GridView footer to display Running total & Grand total. Let we have a customer table with id and name column plus an orders table with OrderID,CustomerID,OrderDate & Amount. Now our goal is to show all customers order with amount as well as page wise running total & grand total. Note that running total is necessary when you enable paging in a GridView where as Grand total is always you can consider.

Resources for soup-to-nuts of website development lifecycle

 I'm looking for a website, or book, or some resource that can lead me down the path from website design to implementation/deployment. I know that covers a ton of material, but I am really looking for the bullet points, or high-lights, to make sure that I think of everything. I am mostly fuzzy on security measures and deployment since I haven't been involved in those aspects before.

Background:  I have been a programmer for many years, and with a little over 3 years' experience coding websites in vb.net/asp.net with sql server. Due to recent restructuring/layoffs at our firm, I find myself in the position of lead IT person - I'm feeling a bit underqualified but I feel this is my chance to work hard and step up to it. I'm very good at vb.net, master pages, css, asp.net, sql server. I'm worried that the person who was the lead before was doing a bunch of stuff that I'm not aware of...so I need to start learning more than just the code. I don't need lessons on how to code anything...I need to learn how it all gets put together - the next step up.

thanks for any suggestions!

Why isn't my Views/Home/Home.Master file published when I publish my website?

Hi All,

I spent the better part of today hunting down an elusive error.  I was getting a message saying that it couldn't find the Index view for the Home controller, and it gave a list of locations it searched, e.g., ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx.  This was really confusing as the file definitely existing and was at ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx, the first place in the list of locations it searched for the view!

What I eventually discovered was that there was a file that did not get published when I used Visual Studio's "Publish" feature (this is on the "Build" menu).  That file was Views/Home/Home.master, and (as you can probably guess) is the master file used by Views/Home/Index.aspx.

Once I copied that file into place manually, it started working.  But I am left wondering--why???  Why does this file not get published?  It's a part of my project, I can see it in the solution explorer, and it's obviously a critical file that's necessary for the MVC app to run.  It has the same permissions as every other file in my project.  So why wouldn't it get copied?  And how can I fix it so it does get copied?

Thanks for any suggestions on this!

Client script not running

Dear all,

in my MVC 2 application, and in the shared Master Page I wrote this little script for menu handling :

<script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () {
     $('#nav li').hover(
         function () {
             //show its submenu
             $('ul', this).slideDown(100);
        function () {
           //hide its submenu
            $('ul', this).slideUp(100);

The script, that shows menu items when the

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

Creating a user friendly alias for the website path

 Hello mates,

I am hosting my ASP.NET application on a Windows 2003 Server.

To browse to my application one has to type the path :http://serverName/applicationName

I want users to only type  applicationName on the web adress area.I believe there is something to do with alias and CNAME on DNS records that can adress this.

Any help on how to go about doing this will be highly appreciated.

Very Basic Question - Error message running first page

Hi Everyone,

I am running Windows 7 and I have gone into Control Panel and activated all of the IIS Functions.

The web application I am running was downloaded from the net (and has worked on other machines previously).  Once I downloaded it, I moved it into C:/inetpub/wwwroot/code/main.asp

I am a bit of a novice at this!  But I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction!

I get the following error when I try and run the web application through IE:

"An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error."

(When i click the "click here" button it just goes to the IIS site).

Appreciate any help I can get!

For Multi-Language website which process is better in asp.net

Citrix server slowing down due to ASP.NET Website

I have created an ASP.NET website using Visual Studio 2008. It is deployed to a local server in my office running Windows Server 2003. This intranet website is accessed by about 200 employees at a given time from 3 different corners of the world.

It runs fine on a local browser. But it is terribly hogging about 25% of the CPU memory when run in a Citrix environment. It runs in the IE 8 with IE 7 compatibility mode.

Many users open two browsers at a time to run different pages of this website.

The webpage has AJAX toolkit controls and lots of CSS defined.

Does anyone have any idea or experience regarding this?
