Intermittent SharePoint database connect error on SQL cluster

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
SQL 2008 Cluster has two SQL instances. Two separate SharePoint farms are "connected" with each SQL instance. SharePoint frontend servers eventlog is flooded with "unable to connect with database.." kind of errors for few minutes during diferent time interval. This erros occurs at the same time on both SharePoint farms. (Note that both SharePoint farm doesn't share any info, that is, each farm is running independantly). Someone suggests SQL box has some bandwidth/network issue. Enabled SQL trace. But not sure how to analyze. Can someone help? Thanks in advance

Stuck installing Sharepoint 2010 - Config Wizard saying Cannot connect to database master

Hi all

I have setup 2 servers in hyper-v.
SERVER-SHP = Sharepoint 2010
both running on windows server 2008 R2.
Both servers are joined to the same domain, have fixed ip addresses and can ping each other.

When I get to the part in Sharepoint 2010 setup where I'm runnng "Sharepoint Products Configuration Wizard" where I specify the database server and name and username and password I get the following error which I can't get past "Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at SERVER-SQL. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it."

I have read the following link and followed it but the problem remains

I don't see where it is falling over as the username and password is the domain administrator one (have also tried the spAdmin) mentioned to setup in the above link. And it says at the notes at the top of the page that if the database (SharePoint_Co

Also i'm unable to see the filter on the report.

I have got some info on google regarding 'Claims to windows token service' should up and run. But, i'm still getting the same after enabling 'Claims to windows token service' as well.

Please help me in this regard.

503 Service Error and Cannot connect to configuration database.

We have a brand new installation of Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 R2, and SharePoint 2010, and configuration of SharePoint 2010 at end of installation.

So far after all of this was installed the only thing we've accomplished so far is this:

Accessing the website:  503 Service Unavailable.
Accessing admin site:  503 Service Unavailable and/or Cannot connect to configuation database.

I've installed teh recommended hotfixes.  I've rebooted.  I've reconfigured to ensure it was hitting the right database and everything else.  Googled and searched here, ALL to no avail.

Suggestions?  I'm at my wits end and won't spend another second on what, but all appearances, is turning out to be a crappy product that our company spent thousands on.  I've had better luck (100% success) running just the services.

Sharepoint 3.0 can't connect to database

Our sharepoint server suddenly can't connect to its database and I can't make any sense of it.  Articles I've read say to first make sure the SQL Server is up and running.  There's a SQL folder in Program Files but no SQL service in Services.  Maybe it's using some other database so I run the sharepoint central administration.

"Cannot connect to the configuration database."

Ok so I run the configuration wizard...

"Failed to detect if this server is a member of a server farm..."

I'm not sure what to do from here since I can't even verify what database its using.  Any ideas on where I start?

Error in Creating a Sharepoint Configuration Database on a SQL server 08 during installation

I have a three server environment – T1 – a domain controller and T2 and T3 for SharePoint  and SQL Server 08 and respectively, where each is a virtual machine.

These servers are on a domain separate from our company domain.

While installing sharepoint on t2, I get the following error at the step that creates a config database (on T3 SQL Server)

Dreaded "Cannot connect to the configuration database" error in WSS 3.0 after MS updates yesterday (

I know this has been a common issue in the past after updates, patches, SPs etc. Tried several of the online "cures" no luck. I've got a standalone instance of WSS 3.0. Anyone else with this issue after yesterday's updates? If so, any luck?

Update: ran WSS 3.0 configuration wizard, held my breath, and voila it worked!

WSS 3.0 Error "Cannot Connect to the Configuration Database"

I tried re-running the configuration Wizard to no avail.  I can't even get to the Central Admin page.  When running the config wizard it tells me that it can't connect to the farm (it's a standalone install) and to disconnect from the farm to continue.  I disconnected from the farm and now it says that it can't get to the config database.

Running psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b  and I get this error message:

No connection string to a WSS configuration database detected.

I'm at a loss.

SharePoint connect to Oracle Database

We are running a SharePoint 2007 farm and we have staff that want to use a dataview to connect to an Oracle Database as well as a SQL database.  The SLQ connection worked fine. When we try an Oracle Connection using a custom connection string we recieve an error retriving the list of databases.

Some of the information I have read mentions installing the Oracle Client on the SP Web Front  End servers and others do not.

Is there a way to connect to an Oracle database without installing the Oracle Cleint on the SP Web Front End servers?

I've read about using BDC, but that seems to involve having the Oracle.dll in the GAC which I believe would require the Oracle client to be installed.
