Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
after I run "use database" the sql mgmt studio query editor complains when I don't qualify table names.  But the statements run without error. Is there a way to help sql mgmt studio to know I am using a database?

Stored procedure syntax errors

Right now we have a stored procedure in another server ("A") that we are using in a visual studio job to populate a table in our sql server. Instead of having that stored procedure in server "A," I am moving it to our current sql server but I am having some syntax errors and I can't seem to figure them out. I know that the servers use different syntax but for the most part it's mostly the same. So now I am trying to use just Transact-SQL to build this stored procedure in our sql2005 database - any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am using the command "openquery"  to select the fields that I need from the linked server. Here is the stored procedure:

How to specify "truncate log" doing transaction log backup in Mgmt Studio

SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio doc, backup a transaction log, says clearly:

 1.       In the Transaction log section:

For routine log backups, keep the default selection, Truncate the transaction log by removing inactive entries

But I have been back and forth in SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio, editing my Backup Database Task.  I pick the backup type Transaction Log.  I see the Disk and Tape options; the backup file and subdirectory options; Verify backup integrity option; Backup the tail of the log; set backup compress

SQL Server Mgmt Studio - primary/foreign keys

I currently have a number of tables in my database, which include these 2 tables:

tblOne - Uid(pk), FirstName, LastName, Email

tblTwo - HCCID(pk), Uid, Category, Description, Company, Manager

In my application I have users from tblOne logging in and creating records which are inserted into tblTwo. Thankfully this is working ok, however, my problem is with the Uid in tblTwo (fk).

When a new record is created in tblTwo, the HCCID(pk) iterates, so i have a numeric identifier for each record. However is there any way i can also keep a record of the user by recording the Uid in tblTwo based on which user creates the record?

Seeing as though this is already a pk in tblOne and I also already have a pk in tblTwo, is this possible?

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Errors while Build the "Forms Authentication Sample" using Visual Studio 2010

Hi All,

While Build the solution Custom Security Project getting Errors

I am using SharePonit 2010 with Sql Server 2008 R2.

1. I configured Reporting Services and able get the reports using with Windows authentication.

2. Now my web application is Claims Based. Using with Claims Based Auth i need to get the reports. Since 5months i had this task in pending.

I need to configure the Reporting Services using with Forms Auth.

For this  recently i read this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa902691%28SQL.80%29.aspx#ufairs_topic1

After downloading Code file from above link opened .sln file and converted.

Here added reference 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.dll'  from   C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin this path.

While i am going for build getting these two errors

 1. 'Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.CustomSecurity.Authorization' does not implement interface member 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.IAuthorizationExtension.CheckAccess(string, System.IntPtr, byte[], Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.ModelItemOperation)' C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\Samples\Extensions\FormsAuthe

CLR Table Valued Functions works in Visual Studio but gets permissions errors when I try to use in S

This is a CLR question but here's some backgound first:

I need to talk to a Sybase "Advantage" database server and join results together with some SQL Server data.  I tried using Enterprise manager to link a server to Advantage using both OLE DB and ODBC.  Both types of connections Ping ok when I create then but they also both error out when, from within the linked server screen in enterprise manager, I try to open the tree control to view tables in the database.

I also tried to access the Advantage server using an opendatasource call through both OLE DB and ODBC - both calls errored out with "Invalid object name"

I read the Advantage documentation and I discovered that the drivers - at least the ODBC driver - are a combination of level 1 and level 3 compliance, so I concluded that SQL Server is bombing when it tries to retrieve catalog information after it connects...

I coded up a C# table valued function to retrieve the data that I need using ODBC.  The function works fine from within Visual Studio but now I'm getting CAS errors when I try to use it from within SQL Server.  The issue is security and I'm having trouble figuring out how to tune permissions etc. to get this to work.  Specifically I am getting this error when I try to call t

ASP.NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 Web Development Beta 2 Overview

Many exciting changes for ASP.NET are coming in the .NET Framework version 4. This document gives an overview of many of the new features that are included in the Beta 2 release of the .NET Framework 4 and of Visual Studio 2010.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

This is a big deal. This isn't ".NET 3.6" - there are a lot of improvements of .NET 4, and it's not just "pile on a bunch of features so you get overwhelmed." I've been working with and talking to many of the teams involved and even though it's a cheesy thing to say, this is a really customer-focused release.

ASP 4 - Whirlwind Tour around .NET 4 (and Visual Studio 2010) Beta 1

There's a lot of stuff that's new and added in .NET 4, but not in that "overwhelming-I-need-to-relearn-everything" way. More in that, "oh, this is way easier/simpler now" way. Like, moving data around with ADO.NET DataServices is easy, binding with client templates is easy, there's F# if you need it, the "dynamic" keyword if you need it, Silverlight's already installed, oh, and the parallel stuff will freak you out, but in a good way.

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.

Visual Studio Add-In for Web Parts Generation

This article will introduce you to a new Visual Studio 2005/2008 add-in that can be used for Web Parts generation based on a prepared ASCX control/template. The add-in should allow Web Part developers to easily make Web Parts using the Visual Studio HTML designer. It should save you a lot of time and make Web Part development an enjoying experience even for beginners.

This article is written in the form of a step-by-step tutorial. It will give beginners a chance to successfully make, deploy, and try their first Web Parts, and will save some time for advanced users as you can always run into challenges when working with SharePoint.

Download and Share Visual Studio Color Schemes

The good news is that Visual Studio allows you to completely customize the editor background and text colors to whatever you want - allowing you to tweak them to create the experience that is "just right" for your eyes and personality. You can then optionally export/import your color scheme preferences to an XML file via the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

Visual Studio closes itself by opening aspx-Page designer after Windows Update

Hey Guys,

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.

On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important. I hope you could help me out of this disaster.

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

Visual Studio 2008 Memory problems

My memory in task manager reaches about 900,000K  and I don't know why it does this. Definately slows everything down, especially when I rebuild my tableAdapters, takes about 30 seconds sometimes to rebuild the project.
