Search References multi-platform support is forward-compatible

Remember when I introduced you to the Search References extension? I know my fellow coworkers at Clarius are awesome and all, but I was happily surprised when after installing MonoDroid, the following just worked: See the "Filtered to: MonoDroid Profile"? See how the paths point to the right assemblies under MonoDroid reference assemblies? Kudos to the http://go-mono.com/monodroid/ team for integrating so nicely in the VS2010 environment! Searching for custom properties in a default search

Hi all, I have added some custom properties in to Manage User Properties in my User Profile Service Application. The issue I'm having is that I'm unable to obtain search results from these properties. For example, if in the Enterprise Search / People tab I enter "Dave" and click search, then I'll be presented with results of people who's name matches "Dave". If I enter "Information Technology" then I'll get a list of all users who's department is "Information Technology". So far we're okay! But let's go back to the custom property. Let's say it's called "Clients" and it is for storing client names against the staff profiles. If I search for "Microsoft" and a user has Microsoft in their client property then no results are found. I've created the managed properties in the Metadata Property Mappings of my search service application, done full crawls but nothing. If I search for "clients:microsoft" then I get results. So the question is how do I or is it even possible to get custom metadata properties to show up in a default search? Thanks!

Sharepoint 2010 Fast Search - Searching Document set

We have a sharepoint 2010 Fast server. We are planning to use document sets to store documents with common metadata.(Previously were using zips in moss 2007). Now, the requirement is we need to return only  document sets even if the search results contain multiple documents within that document set. ie, if we searched for a keyword that was specific to a document within the document set, the search results should return the document set and not the individual documents. Please help!!! Thanks in advance

osdx basic search provider not working

Would like to add a very basic search provider to Windows 7 so that we don't have to open the Webbrowser every time when performin a search. Serach works without any problem on the SP 2007 Website.

Have googled and found a template that I have customized to our environment:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<OpenSearchDescription xmlns="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/" xmlns:ms-ose="http://schemas.microsoft.com/opensearchext/2009/">
<ShortName>WSSDemo Site</ShortName>
<Description>Search the SmartIT Sharepoint site.</Description>
<Url type="application/rss+xml" template="https://sharepoint.smartit.ch/search/_layouts/srchrss.aspx?k={searchTerms}&amp;start={startIndex}&amp;s=smartit%20Content"/>
<Url type="text/html" template="https://sharepoint.smartit.ch/SearchCenter/Seiten/Results.aspx?k={searchTerms}&amp;s=SmartIT%2

Environment : SharePoint 2010 Enterprise version, using regular search and NOT Fast Search

MOSS 2007 Shared service provider failed (SSP) in "Search settings"

I click on "Search settings" in SSP then the following error: "The search service is currently offline. Visit the Services on Server page in SharePoint Central Administration to verify whether the service is enabled. This might also be because an indexer move is in progress. ".

My SSP work fine last time, but for now it fails in "Search settings". I checked very carefully.

   Office Sharepoint Server Service (OSSS) is started, "Index Server Default File Location" in OSSS is D:\MOSS_index.

   "Path for index file location" of SSP is D:\MOSS_index with full right permission is ok and shared. But i checked folder D:\MOSS_index and folder   D:\MOSS_index is empty, guid folder in D:\MOSS_index was lost.  I checked "Search Administration" in SSP and found that "Items in index" is 0 and "Crawl status" is error, "Default content access account" is error.

"SharePoint Foundation Help Search" support Central admin running as HTTPS?

I'm getting the following error after enabling SSL on the SharePoint Central Admin web application each time the timer job runs every hour.  Does the "SharePoint Foundation Help Search" support Central admin running as HTTPS?    I verified the certificate public key is installed in the "Managed Trust" list.  The site is using NTLM for authentication.

The start address sts4s://spc-test.company.com/contentdbid={7881ba06-985a-4582-a798-bd3526ce9687} cannot be crawled. Context: Application 'Search_index_file_on_the_search_server', Catalog 'Search' Details: Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled. (0x80041205)

Moss Simple Search not searching new items in list until keyword is "propertyName:Keyword" i.e Custo

Problem : Simple search not showing the new items created in list. It shows the new items if searched with keyword as  "propertyName:Keyword" i.e CustomeName:John

There is a metadata property "CustomerName", which is mapped to a custom column(Customer Name) in a sharepoint list as ows_CustomerName(Text). Also there is a scope(Customers) created which has folder set to URL of the sharepoint site containing this list.

The items are indexed for sure as they are searchable if simple search keyword is  "propertyName:Keyword" i.e CustomeName:"John Smith" . But not searchable if the keyword is John Smith

Is there anything missing??

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

.NET 3.5 Adds Named Pipes Support

you want a named pipe server, all you have to do is create some instances of NamedPipeServerStream to handle each client connection. I stole the following code straight from the MSDN documentation.
ASP.NetWindows Application  .NET Framework  C#  VB.Net  ADO.Net
Sql Server  SharePoint  Silverlight  Others  All
