LDAP - directory entry issue with out user and password using impersonate and windows authentication

Hi All I am using the below code to fetch the user information from LDAP             DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://DEV");             DirectorySearcher searcher =  new DirectorySearcher(entry);             SearchResult result;             searcher.Filter = "samaccountname=testuser";             result = searcher.FindOne(); here i am using windows authentication always and along with that when i enable the impersonate = true ,  the code fails at "result = searcher.FindOne();" with message "object reference not set to instance of an object "  also with the same code if i give the username and password along with the impersonate tag >> it works  or if i am using the user and password along with the DirectoryEntry  object then also it will work  but it fails with same user that i gave in impersonate tag / directory entry object with windows authentication enabled  and the  user logged to the application and no username and password tag in directory entry / impersonate tag  Interesting thing is that  in our development server ,  i am able to execute the same code with out user name p

Create user account for web authentication from non-web/local application

Hi, I have an application which is installed on local pc and is using SQL db. It is a client management system where I want to add capability to register new clients and give them access to my web site which is sharing the same SQL database with local application. At the moment clients can register on the web site and I have ASP.NET authorisation system set up with aspnetdb_user, aspnetdb_membership and etc tables. But sometimes it happens that I need to register clients on my local application on PC and ideally would like that registration to create online account for the client as well. Then I want to be able to send him user id and password by email and let him know that he has been registered in my database and online account is ready for him as well. Basically I want to have full synchronization between asp.net membership service and local application through SQL db. As I said both online and local apps are shareing the same SQL database. I would like to know if it is possible at all and what would be the best practice to implement it. Thank you.

local/domain user issue

So I migrated an SQL Server Express 2005 database running on venerable Windows 2000 to a brand new server running Windows Web Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) with SQL Server Express 2008 SP2. I did the initial installation and setup as local administrator. I restored an SQL .bak file without incident and the database seems to be running normally. (After some minor IIS tinkering the ASP.Net website that relies on it works fine.)

I joined the new server to the domain and logged in as domain administrator. Of course the database's owner is the local administrator, and the domain admin doesn't have the full access that the local admin does.

If I get properties on my database in SSMS the owner is the local admin. If I try to change it, it lets me browse for other users, but won't recognize my domain admin at all - the only object types I can pick is Logins. If I try to add a new Login under Security, it sees my domain in Locations, but when I enter MyDomain\Administrator, it says it can't find it.

How can I fix it so that domain accounts are present and usable in SSMS?

With the old database I had a system DSN in ODBC set up to connect to the old database. (I would use linked tables in Access to connect to the database directly sometimes to make edits and things that I never built ASP pages to do.) The servername & database are the same

helped needed: ASP LDAP authentication failed in IE 8

I use the following code to do the user authentication through Active Directory using LDAP.

entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + server, user_name, password);
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(entry.Name))
EmployeeNetId = entry.Username.Substring(0, 3);

// Retrieve EmployeeId, and Employee Full Name
EmployeeId = -1;

It works for Chrome, Firefox with no problem. But with IE 8, it works sometimes, and failed on some computers. When it failed, I figured that I need to check SSL 2.0 in IE 8 Internet Options.  It's weird because in those computers that IE 8 works, SSL 2.0 is also unchecked.

Am I using some deprecated method? Or How do I specifiy the SSL version options in the LDAP connection?

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

=User!UserID from windows authentication using table from another database

i'm using sql server 2005, sql server business intelligence development studio for my reports and deploy them in my wss3.0 site.

what i'm trying to do is i'm trying to restrict wich users can see specific data within a report.

now, the thing is. the report gets the data out of my DB1 database and my windows authenticated user are in the WSS_content database.

when i deploy my report in my wss3 site. it gets the user that is loged in. but of course it does not display any data because the tables are not in the same database.

does someone knows how to do this?

Solved: LDAP authentication: error code 49 - 80090308, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52

Hi, I have a problem conneting to another domain (far.away.domain). We have a two-way trust to this domain. Also I can access the DS using ADSI edit and our Administrator account (ourdomain.com). I tried several types of credentials (userid = "CN=Administrator,CN=Users,DC=ourdomain,DC=com", "Administrator @ ourdomain.com" (without blanks)...). Connecting to ourdomain.com is no problem, but to far.away.domain I can't connect, I always get the error 525 (user not found). What could be the problem? Have I to use an entry from the ForeignSecurityPrincipals CN of the far.away.domain? I also tried to connect using Softerra LDAPBrowser and a command line ldapsearch without succes and with not a better error message. But why is it not possible to use a trusted account, or is this a active directory feature and does not work with pure LDAP bindings? Best regards, Nils.

Changing user domain

Hi, We have our sharepoint 2007 entreprise farm importing users from two different AD. Let's say 'potato' and 'orange'. We have mysite creation activated in our farm. We have to change one user from potato to orange. The user domain is not in the mysite url of the user. We have http:\\...\personal\fLastName. Questions: 1- How can I change potato\fLastName to orange\fLastName?    We wante to disable potato\fLastName AD account and then create orange\fLastName.     Does it impact profile AND mysite? 2- What are the impact on document history?   Will I still be able to see what potato\fLastName changed or it will show orange\fLastName? Thanks.

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local appl

Hello everybody.I am working on Login control and I am new in ASP.NET. So far what I did is :1. In Website->ASP.NET Configuration I change the form authentication to internet.2. I created a user profile3. This gave me a ASPNETDB.mdf database.4. I added this code :<connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> in web.config file.4. I added login control to my login page :<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Login.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login" Title="Untitled Page" %><asp:Content ID="MainContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContentPlaceHolder" Runat="Server"> <h1>Please Login</h1> <asp:Login ID="LoginAuth" runat="server" > </asp:Login></asp:Content> 5. And the login.aspx.cs file has :using System;using System.Collections;using System.Configuration;using System.Data;using System.Linq;using System.Web;using System.Web.Security;using System.Web.UI;using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;using System.W

Cannot create user: server cannot determine if it is member of a domain

Hi, An instance of our 2008 SP1 SQL Server is running on a computer that was removed from it's domain and then re-added. Now, when I want to create a new login in Management Studio via the nodes Security/Logins, selecting "New Login", entering DOMAIN_NAME\USER_NAME as login name and then click "Search", I get an error message (in German) "Das Programm kann das erforderliche Dialogfeld nicht öffnen, da nicht ermittelt werden kann, ob Computer "COMPUTER_NAME" einer Domäne zugeordnet ist. Schließen Sie dieses Dialogfeld, und wiederholen Sie den Vorgang". Translation: "The program cannot open the required dialog, as it cannot be determined if computer "COMPUTER_NAME" is assigned to a domain. Close this dialog, and repeat the process." But closing the dialog and repeating as suggested does not help. Even restarting the SQL Server service and re-connecting in Management Studio did not help. I keep getting this message. I found, however, that just entering the domain and user name and then clicking Ok seems to add the user. Anyway, it is irritating to get this error message when clicking "Search". How can I tell the engine that the computer is really member of the domain again? Frank

Active Directory user impersonation with forms authentication

I've written a small ASP.NET 3.5 application to allow users to update selected account attributes on their own. Everything works fine when I use Basic Authentication, but because the dialog that is presented is less than ideal, I'd like to use forms authentication to give the users more instruction on how to log in. My problem is that in order for the user to update their account information, I have to have the application impersonate them for the update actions. I've scoured the internet trying to find a solution to my issue, but nothing fits or works. I have tried setting the web.config:<identity impersonate="true" /> but that doesn't seem to work. I also have the C# code using the WindowsImpersonationContext class, but still no luck. protected void titleTextBox_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { TextBox tb = (TextBox)sender; string fieldTitle = "job title"; string fieldName = "title"; if (userDirectoryEntry == null) CaptureUserIdentity(); try { WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext = userWindowsIdentity.Impersonate(); if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(tb.Text)) userDirectoryEntry.Properties[fieldName].Clear();
