Mass Meta Migration

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
There are 2 sites with same doclib template (same metafields set). When i just copy files between libs no metafields are saved. Only way to save passports is to copy it with context menu command. But i can do it only 1 files at a time. Any options ? PS Well there is another method  to apply metadata - through excel view magic, but it is non systematic )

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

Migration from ASP.NET 3.5 to 4.0

So, I just recently started to migrate my website from 3.5 to 4.0.   I am running in a bunch of issues but mainly 2 so far that have me stumped.

1. I have a custom URL rewrite module that I use, and it seems like it's being ignored to some extent.  It works fine if I run it through Visual Studio 2010 debugger, so I have no idea why it's not being fired.

2. In some of my pages, I reference a BasePage class instead of System.Web.UI.Page.  The ones that reference this BasePage class works fine, but when I use System.Web.UI.Page, I get : Object reference not set to an instance of an object when I try to create an object.

Any ideas?

Migration to .Net 2 and includes

I'm currently having a problem with one of our old .Net 1.1 applications. For generating the user interface, a lot of incude statements were used.

<!--#include file="includes/header.aspx"-->

In these includes, the variables from the parent files are used.

Now I have to use at least .Net 2 and Visual Studio 2010. The problem is that VS tries to compile these include files, which of course failes.

Is there any way to restore the old behavior again?

Controls: Plan Your Migration to the Visual Studio 2005 Navigation Controls

Navigation is central to a well functioning Web application and it can be implemented numerous ways using today's technologies. This article contains a simple Web site that demonstrates the use of these navigation controls, pointing out some of the key items such as a breadcrumb control and things to watch for along the way. The article then describes how to implement a breadcrumb control today.

Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

.NET Migration Case Study: Using ASP.NET to Build the beta.visualstudio.net Web Site

When the Web site used to collect customer feedback about the Visual Studio .NET beta needed an update, the Visual Studio team saw a good opportunity to implement, deploy, and showcase a real-world site using .NET technologies. This article covers the migration of the Web site, beta.visualstudio.net, from components written in Visual Basic 6.0 and ASP hosted on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 to ASP.NET and the .NET Framework. The choices of technologies to be incorporated, along with issues such as validation, security, and authentication, are all discussed. Both existing components and the new components written in JScript and ASP.NET that were used to migrate the site are also explained.

site migration

Hi we are migrating a website from a proprietary system  to a new system built inSQL 2008.

We have created a lookup table that contain the UrlAlias of every individual page and its associate id. On every page request the new system has to query the lookup table with around 6,000 pieces of rows to get its id.

Now i am afraid of the load it would generate on our server and make the system slow?

Is there any work around of doing this using rewriter, regular expression etc

SQL 2005 migration issue

Hey everyone, I do not know anything about SQL, so hopefully someone can help me out. Installed SQL 2005 on a new server.  Restored a database from SQL7. The database I restored is called "train" for example and in that database is a user called "train_user" I cannot connect to the obdc data source using this "train_user".  I do not know if the password didn't carry over during the migration and don't even know how to check or change this password.  I don't know if this user needs certain privileges to be able to access the SQL server?  They are the db owner of the database that I restored.  The application I am trying to launch gives me the odbc error.  This info is stored in an ini file.  If I change this info to sa, then I can access the application. If I need to provide more info, I can do that, but hopefully someone understands what is going on or what I need to do to fix it. Here is the error code:  Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 5.

migration and upgarde from 2005 to 2008

we need to migrate the data from Houston to Seattle. plus, we need to upgrade 2005 server to 2008 at the same time, with the minimal downtime. The plan is to build the brand new 2008 server in Seattle, restore all databases (500 on the same server!) from full backup. when ready, shutdown applications in Houston, run diff backup and restore Seattle from diff. My question is about initial restore of master database in Seattle. is it a problem to restore 2005 master db on 2008 server?JulieShop

FieldTemplate_Edit to show value when custom meta data is set editable equals false

Have a custom FieldTemplate (RadioButtonChooser_Edit.ascx) that shows a radiobuttonlist based on a single character.  Using LinqtoSQL/DynamicData enabled.Example G, F, P  (Good, Fair, Poor). If the custom metadata for a field in the table is set  [Editable(false)]  I get a G, F, or P.  I would like to show the full word when editable is set to false.  Not sure how to approach this.

Exchange Server 2007 SP1 mailbox migration into 2010

Hi Everyone, I’ve got all in one Exchange Server 2007 SP1 RU3 that got all in one role installed (HT-CAS-MBx) in Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 SP which is also running as domain controller with all FSMO role. I’m planning to migrate the Exchange Server 2007 server role into the Exchange Server 2010 Standard that I have prepared in my Virtual Machine of Windows Server 2008 R2, what is the safest migration path to make the email flow working end to end parallel (staging migration process). (please also not that this Exchange Server 2007 SP1 got so many problem like – OOF email error in Outlook 2007, meeting scheduler stopped working, etc… therefore updating it into SP3 is not the way here and I've backed up the mailbox using Backup Exec 2010 in case i can just restore the backed up mailbox into the new server 2010 if possible) My this is what I’m about to do: 1. Transfer all FSMO role into another domain controllers 2. Install and configure similar role in the new VM (Exchange Server 2010 Std.) 3. Confused… Things to do after all mailbox migration: 1. Cutover the MX record into the new server name 2. Install updated UCC- SSL certificate into the exchange server 2007 Any kind of help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, AWT /* Infrastructure Support Engineer */
