Can Managed Metadata columns be edited in the DataSheet View of a Library or List?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi, I like to mass set document properties in a library using DataSheet View, the properties are columns based on Managed MetaData values. When I open the doc library in Datasheet view, those columns become read-only. I made sure the library does not require 'Check Out' and also tested it in other views then the AllItems view. Can someone confirm what is the expected functionality and or if there is a bug?

Can Managed Metadata columns be edited in the DataSheet View of a Library or List?

Can someone confirm what is the expected functionality and or if there is a bug? Should I be able to edit them in 2010 and were they editable in 2007 version. Please help. thanks. I came across this other post which suggests that functionality is not available ? pls someone confirm. Mass-editing metadata when documents are uploaded (individually or in bulk) to MOSS 2010

Columns in Doc Library Standard View are not seen in Datasheet View

All the columns appearing in the Standard view of my doc library are not appearing in the Datasheet view. I've look through all the information I have and it all it appears to indicate that boht views sould match:

Office and SharePoint 2007 User's Guide, by Michael. Antonovich published by Apress-
" . .this view displays the same information as the Standard view."

SharePoint 2007 by Ishai Sagi, published by SAMS- "The Datasheet view displays all the columns that were on the standard view."

In the Standard view these columns appear: Type,Name, Checked Out To, Check-In Comments, Modified, Modified By and Version.

Yet in the Datasheet view of the same library these columns appear: Type,Name, Checked Out To, Modified, and Modified . The Check In Comments is missing and the Version column are missing.

I don't see this same problem with lists imported from a spreadsheet.  In those instances the Standard View and the Datasheet view are an exact match.

Any ideas?
Thanks so much!

Using Infopath 2010 to customize a SharePoint 2010 list with columns using Managed Metadata

Hello All-

I would like to customize the "new" form on a SharePoint list that has some columns that use managed metadata term sets as options.  Unfortunately, when I do so, I get the message:

"InfoPath cannot generate a form template for the SharePoint list."

The following fields in the SHarePoint list are not supported because of their data type and will not be available in InfoPath Designer:

-MyColumnName (TaxonomyFieldTypeMulti)

This error message seems to be pretty self explanatory, but it boggles my mind that this would be the case.  Can I really not customize my list "new" form in Infopath if I am using columns with managed metadata?  Any workarounds?

list webpart, not using the sourse url, but referring back to the library view on close.

i have a webpart which brings a list in to my front page. -when user clicks, it shows  the item, and when he clicks on close,it takes him back to the library view. not back to the page, from where the request has initiated. we are using f5 load balancer, and our webapplications are extended. is there somesetup i am missing, so that i can make the sourse url's refer back to the originating page.

How to maximize use of managed metadata in the document library?

We are creating new Intranet portal based on SharePont 2010 and we have document library with 100-200 documents. Old Intranet is based on previous version of SharePoint. End-users did not like the usability of the document library as it was hierarchical. Users needed to know, which was the folders and its subfolder to find out where is the document. We are currently investigating if we can solve this problem by using managed metadata. We know how to define term set and how to give metadata to the document, but we don't know what is the most usable way to utilizem them in the document library. Let say that end-user would like to see all documents that has managed metadata "User Guide". How to configure document library so that users see only those documents. Not all our users are skilled and we have to provide very intuitive way to search relavant documents to them. Some predefined metadata dropdown would be great.Kenny_I

Managed Metadata columns in Sharepoint Workspaces

Hello,   all our document lists use Managed Metadata columns. They are required also.    Sharepoint Workspaces list current values for these columns, but do not allow changing them. Thus effectively making Sharepoint Workspace unusuable, because we can't check-in new documents.   Am I missing something?

list of employees - custom list or managed metadata term set ?

Hi all, I am working on a intranet site for a small company with 25 employees. They want to create a site for tracking employee training. Most of the items on this site are going to be associated with an employee entity. What is the best way to manage the employee entity ? should I create a custom list called employee or should I create a term set called employee containing the names of all 25 employees ? In a related question is it possible to add a "people picker" field to a custom list ? ( e.g. Training schedule list ) I note that for 'assign to' columns SharePoint provides a dialog which enables you to browse and select users from active directory. Is there a way to add similar lookup functionality to a custom list in SharePoint ? thanks and regards, Counie

"The List Cannot be Displayed in Datasheet view....."

I created a standalone Win 2008 R2 x64 server, performed a Basic SharePoint Foundation (beta) install, installed Office 2010 on the same box, and am using IE 8 on that box to browse SharePoint sites. When I try to view a list in Datasheet view I get this error:The list cannot be displayed in DataSheet view for one or more of the following reasons:- A datasheet component compatible with Miicrosoft Sharepoint Foundation is not installed.- Your web browser does not suport ActiveX controls- A component is not propelry configured for 32- or 64-bit support. How can I troubleshoot this?TIA,barkingdog

Add managed metadata column to list - access denied + terms not visible in lists

Firstly the following is not a problem for users given "Full Control" (and possibly other permission levels might work) at the web application level in central admin.

For any other user with permissions set at site collection level, even "site owners" (full control) , these problems arise.

  1. When adding managed metadata columns to a new document library list, clicking save results in multiple access denied errors getting logged (as seen using UlsViewer) and an exception is raised (sharepoint error page)
  2. In existing document library lists managed metadata column headings are displayed in list views but the terms text is not displayed.
This problem shows up even if the logged on user is the term set owner.  "Available for tagging" is enabled, submissions policy is closed.
Looking at http://<the-site-domain>/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx and then checking list permissions I can see that "All Authenticated Users" has Read permission level.
Integrated windows authentication - NTLM + Claims Based Authentication is the only authentication method used. It's an intranet site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Possible bug in SP2010 - Managed metadata column and STP document library template

Hello I have a problem with managed metadata on two different servers and would like to ask you to try it.

I assume you have managed metadata service running.

1, Open some document library in some site
2, Create column - managed metadata type and select some termset and set it as required.

3, Upload a document and fill in metadata when you will be asked.

4, Then edit properties and check, that metadata are there.

5, Save this library as template.

6, Deploy document library from this template and try steps 3+4.

My problem is, you can select metadata, but they are not saved. e.g. when you check document properties managed metadata are not there.

Can you confirm this behavior ?
Thank you very much.

Tomas

P.S.: one more weird thing. If you do metadata filling using office 2010 compatible application. Metadata remain there, but they are not visible in document library properties.
