Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I'm trying to add an Ascending and Descending sort direction Icon Image next to the header text of my ASP.NET 2.0 Gridview Columns.I've searched and found some examples that seem to do this but have had difficult time recoding them from C# to VB or some just seemed overly complex for what I want to do.Does anyone have a simple VB solution for sort icons?Thanks,Ethan

Display image icon in HyperLinkField of Gridview

 Hello everyone! Can someone please tell me how to display an image in a HyperLinkField of a gridview?  Instead of words, I just want to show a simple little icon that can be clicked on and pass a query string to the next page.  The first hyperlink field I have set up works perfectly and passes the querystring to the next page.   The second hyperlinkfield is my attempt at showing the image but it's giving me a squiggly and telling me "the element img cannot be nested within the element hyperlinkfield" I got this technique from this brief article   - I would like to accomplish exactly what it says it is suppose to do. Thanks!   <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="clientID"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="clientFirstName" HeaderText="First Name" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="clientLastName" HeaderText="Last Name" /> <asp:HyperLinkField HeaderText="More Info" Text="View more info..." DataNavigateUrlFields="clientID" DataNavigateUrlFormatString="Cli

Can a gridview contain an image and text in the same column?

I have a 1-column gridview (and it must remain 1-column) which contains only text.  My requirement is to prefix each row with an image followed by the text.  The image may or may not be indented a bit, like an expanded child node in a tree.

I know a gridview renders as a table and I know I could put an image at the beginning of each row in a table (using a repeater, for example).  But this is an existing app with a couple gridviews which need to be enhanced and I don't have the time to swap out the gridviews for repeaters.

I can't find any reference anywhere on the 'net which deals with this topic.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

AJAX GridView Paging and Sorting using C# in ASP.Net

To enable the GridView Paging and Sorting to update the GridView Data without refreshing the ASP.Net web page AJAX Extension controls are used. UpdatePanel is used to hold the GridView control that triggers the events for the controls placed inside it. By Default UpdatePanel triggers the asynchronous postbacks for its child controls.

Sorting Gridview using Jquery with ASP.NET

I want to show how to sorting a gridview using a Jquery in ASP.NET, it is a flexible client-side table sorting. We have known that Jquery is a new kind of Javascript Library. You can find detail of Jquery in this site http://jquery.com/ there are lot of example with documentation and also allow free download a latest version.

Sorting Gridview using Jquery with ASP.NET

used table sorter plug-in which has written by Christian Bach can found http://tablesorter.com/docs/ . It is really cool plug-in and user can allow to download and customization as their wish.

I test this example in Visual Studio 2005. Some of other requirement needed is download a latest version of Jquery from official website and table sorter plug-in which can found as I mention above website.

Tooltip for GridView Column Headers (ASP.Net)

I just wanted to add auto tooltips for my GridView headers. There are couple of ways but I don't want to use javascript and wanted to use simple 'title' attribute. It took couple of hours to get the working code supporting sortable columns. I thought it will be very useful for others. Here's the code and logic behind it.

GridView Sorting/Paging : 'REAL' AJAX with Asp.Net Series

This is a continuation of my 'REAL' AJAX with Asp.Net (not Asp.Net AJAX) series posts for those of us trying to stop relying on Asp.Net 'AJAX'.

Ok, nothing too dramatic to start things off, we are going to make some tabled data sortable and pagable all without using a bit of postback. Not only that, but it is going to be incredibly easy!

Sorting Data in a GridView Web Server Control

The GridView control provides built-in sorting functionality without requiring any coding. You can further customize the sort functionality of the GridView control by using custom SortExpression property values for columns as well as by using the Sorting and Sorted events

Sorting GridView Columns Manually

We all know that GridView columns can be sorted automatically when SQLDataSource is being used. But what if you are not using SqlDataSource to populate the GridView. Sorting the GridView manually is pretty straight forward task take a look at the code below

Manually sorting and paging Gridview without using datasource control

Many a times while working with Gridview we want to work with the paging and sorting functionality without using any datasource control. Gridview is flexible enough to perform these tasks without the use of any datasource control and only a few lines of code.

Optimized Paging and Sorting in ASP.NET GridView

In this article I am going to demonstrate what are the performance drawbacks of using conventional way to page and sort your GridView and then I will demonstrate 'An Optimized way to implement Paging and Sorting'.

Use a column as parameter for a sds in another column; gridview

Hola, I have a gridview which is bound to a sds which returns 7 columns and I added two columns from the GUI.  What I want is to fill up the 9th column with DDLs and these  DDLS will get their data from a different sds which is using a stored procedure with a single parameter.  I created the 9th row, used template field, made the sds for 9th row, the stored_procedure, threw a DDL in Item template and all  I need now is to pass a parameter in the first column to the sds in the 9th column.  I can code this but i'm getting tired of aspx.cs :) and would like to do it from the GUI.

Rendering data with HTML tags in the DD Gridview for a selected column

I am having trouble finding out where and how to HTML Encode a cell's data on the Dynamic Data (v4.0) gridview of List.aspx.  As a simple case, suppose I have formatted cell data that is A<br/>B in the DB.    Obviously, I want A stacked on B in the cell.

It seems gridView1.HtmlEncode = true has gone away.

So maybe I'll try to catch it on the RowDataBound event:

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

            if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
                // Html Encode the cells

but this event never fires?

Has anyone figured out how to properly render HTML tags data in the List.aspx's GridView1?

If I figure this out, then I can add a MetaAttribute called something like [EncodeAsHtml(true)] and be on my way.  Thanks!

Gridview with Image Button

i have a gridview and i want to perform edit and delete with an image button

but unable to figure out the events and how i m gonna make my grid into edit mode ??

<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
                <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="S.No">
                        <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Container.DataItemIndex+1 %>'></asp:Label>
                <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Edit">
                        <asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton1" runat="server" ImageAlign="Middle"
                            ImageUrl="~/image/ico_edit.gif" CommandName="Edit"
                            onclick="ImageButton1_Click" />
                <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Delete">

display an icon in gridview - selectively

I've created an ExpenseReport application which allows users to attach receipts to Expense Report Lineitems. These are contained in a gridview using a template field:

<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="File" InsertVisible="False">
                    <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
                <asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink" ImageUrl='<%# Eval("filename", "~/workflow/Images/attachment.jpg") %>'
                runat="server" NavigateUrl='<%# Eval("filename", "http://workflowserver/AtWork/workflow/ExpenseReport/retrieveattachment.aspx?attachment={0}") %>' Text="" />

The trouble I have is that the 'attachment.jpg' icon shows for every lineitem (even one that does not contain an attachment).

I would like to be able to selectively display this icon or show a different icon if there is NO attachment.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm kind of stuck... ;-)

Thank You.
