Side by Side installation 2008 and 2008 R2

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I'm attempting to load 2008 Express R2 along side 2008 Express.  I thought it might be a safer way of upgrading since I've read there are some issues with upgrading.  After successfully loading R2 and rebooting, I began configuring RS on the R2 side.  When I tried to save the database settings, I received the following error:  Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.WMIProviderException: The version does not match a supported version. I believe somehow the R2 install is looking at the 2008 install (I do have it pointed to the correct server.)  Has anyone fixed this?  Is is possible to do this type of install? Thanks for your help. Bill

Hi

Does anyone know of any links on how to side by side install SQL 2008 Express edition on XP SP3 machine where there are instances of SQL 2005 Express edition already installed.

These 2005 Express instances are development databases and I must reduce any risks of screwing them up when I install 2008.

Thanks.

Hi, We are trying to install SQL Server 2008 EE x64 bit on a Windows 2008 x64 bit virtual system. Have SQL 2005 EE x64 bitalready installed in that box. While installing SQL 2008 EE, weget a warning in the reule check as below, "Rule "Microsoft .NET Application Security" generated a warning. The computer cannot access the internet. There might be delays in starting a .NET application like Management Studio. If navigate to htp://cr.microsoft.com/../products/MicrosoftRotAuthority.crl and are prompeted to download the MicrosoftRotAuthority.crl file you should not have .NET Security validation issues. It is not  necessary to download the microsoftRootAuthority.crl file. " Note: "We were not able deploy the reports in the IE. Hope the above might be a problem" (Any idea to solve this ?) Later when proceeding with the installation after giving all the details... i recevied an error in the middle of the installation while Running "post-Windows Installer configuration timing actions - SqlEngineConfigAction_install_confignonrc_Cpu64",it prompted error "The Following error has occured: The system cannot find the path specified." i am installing the set up from the created physical path, D:\SQL 2008\Enterprise Edition\Enterprise\SQL2008 enterprise. SQL 2008 Installation problem (Could not fix registry key)

Hello, I want to install SQL 2008 client tools on a Win 2008 machine. The machine already contains an instance of SQL 2005 Express which I don't want to unistall. The problem is that the installation wizard complains about Consistency Validation for SQL registry keys. The log shows the following: 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp: Could not fix registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Client\ConnectTo. 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp: System.NullReferenceException: Referencia a objeto no establecida como instancia de un objeto. 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.ContainsInheritedAce(Byte[] securityDescriptor) 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.FixRegistryKey(String keyName) 2010-08-26 10:14:46 Slp:    en Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.FixSqlRegistryKey.Program.FixRegistryKeyAndSubKeys(RegistryKey key) I have created the "ConnecTo" key, which didn't even exist. I have also tried to set premissions to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer to "Everyone/Full Control" but the installation fails over and over. Is there anything else I could try to get the SQL tools installed? Thanks in advance.

SQL Server 2008 - Installation Woe - .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

On a Windows 2003 R2 x64 server, I have been unable to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64. When running setup.exe, I almost instantaneously receive the following Microsoft SQL Server Setup error:"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation has failed.SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework to be installed."What does not make sense is that I successfully downloaded .NET Framework 3.5 from the Microsoft download site (published 8/11/2008) prior to the SQL Server 2008 installation attempt.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=enI do need to note that a few nights ago, prior to downloading the framework (3.5 SP1), I ran the SQL Server 2008 setup executable. I was prompted that in order to install SQL Server 2008, the setup program needed to first install .NET 3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 4.5. I let the .NET 3.5 SP1 install run for about 1.5 to 2 hours and cancelled (now I wish I had just let it go).It is my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) that the SQL Server 2008 setup program initially checks for any pre-RTM versions of .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework. If one is found, it is then supposed to guide the user through both the installation of the .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework and Windows Installer 4.5. I have removed .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework (Add/Remove programs) and rebooted. However, upon runni
