Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi All, When we try to connect to a sql server 2000 using SQL server authentication, we are facing the below mentioned error msg. "Server: MSg 17, Level 16, State 1 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied" But, once we connect to server using Windows NT login from the client machine, i.e., execute the below command in the run prompt and provide the credentials for windows login, we are able to connect to the server using sql server authentication(user name: sa) \\server_ipaddress\c$ When we went though some of the msdn links, found that windows firewall was the major cause. But, in the server 1. Windows Firewall is turned off 2. TCP/IP and NamedPipes are enabled 3. Default Port Number is 1433 Any user, who wants to connect to the SQL Server using SSMS, first have to perform a Windows NT login and then connect using SQL authentication.  Due to the above error, the DTS packages which are executing in a different server are getting failed. NOTE: Even after connecting to the server using Remote Desktop connection in a local machine, SQL authentication fails. Its manadatory to run the command \\server_ipaddress\c$ in each of the local machine. Any suggestion to resolve the above error is very much appreciated.   Thanks in advance, Raksha Hegde

ODBC Driver for SQL Server Compact Edition

I know that there is no ODBC driver available for SQL Server Compact Edition version 3.5.  Do you plan to add an ODBC driver in future release? If yes, is it high in your priority list?   The scenario why I am looking for an ODBC driver is to connect an MS Access application to a SDF file instead of MDB file.  This will enable me to easily sync the SDF file with SQL server repository using the new Data Sync Services.   Mario Cardinal MVP Solutions Architect

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver

I'm getting the following exception when attempting to connect to SQL Server 2005 using Microsoft's new JDBC driver: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The TCP/IP connection to the host  has failed. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect The help docs suggest checking connectivity using telnet. So attempting to connect via telnet to generates: Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed. So I try to start telnet: net start telnet I get the following error message: The service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enables devices associated with it. Can anyone help? Thanks

Bug in ODBC SQL Server driver (SQLFetch hangs)

I have come across a bug in the ODBC driver for SQL Server when working against SQL Server 2008 64-bit with TDE where tables contain text-datatypes. We concluded that it is a bug after testing a simple SQL query using Microsoft ODBC test tool (odbcte.exe) and the workaround for us was to start using the "SQL Native Client 10" instead. However I would like to share this information if someone else come across this problem. Below I will describe the problem in more detail. The table has three columns with text datatypes and we use a simple select query against this table to return about 10 rows of data but SQLFetch hangs before all data is returned. It is unfortunately very difficult to reproduce the errror since even a very small change will change the behaviour. If we for example add or remove a column to the select statement then the problem will dissappear, if we call SQLBindCol before instead of after SQLExecute (or the other way around) the problem will dissapear, if we change the WHERE-clause to fetch a different set of rows the problems will dissapear. We have seen the problem though with a number of different SQL queries so it is reproducable.

Msg 8624, Level 16, State 13 - Internal SQL Server error.

Hi, I have a weird T-SQL 80 query full of nested subqueries full of aggregations tha thas been embedded in a view. if I do select * from the view I get: Server: Msg 8624, Level 16, State 13 Internal SQL Error.  If I run the same block of code from the query analyzer it runs fine. Also if I wrap exactly the same code in a SP it runs fine. I'm running this on a SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition SP4 8.00.2282. + I turned on the following Trace Flags: 3614, 9052, 9054, 9056, 9057, 9185, 9256. If I restore the same DB on a SQL Server 2005 and do the same select * it runs fine. So I'm getting the Error 8624 only on my SQL 2000 Standard edition  SP4 8.00.2282. Another thing I dont understand is also: why I can compile the view but if I try to visualize even the query plan I get the same error?!? Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you. Need SQL Server ODBC Driver 2000.81.9042

We have this application that requires a specific version of the SQL Server ODBC driver 2000.81.9042.  Where can I get this?

CLR Integration With Microsoft SQL Server

Transact-SQL provides as much flexibility as possible but, because it is not a real programming language, it has some shortcomings about many issues (memory management, exception handling, debugging, file processing (or streaming), object-orientation (classes), or thread management). Transact-SQL also lacks features of normal libraries (arrays, collections, serialization, expressions, or string manipulations, etc).

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

SQL Server Session state problem.

Hi to all,

I have some things that I want to know. I am right now using a free asp.net webhosting ("somee.com"). The problem is that when I am visiting a page, there's a tendency that values stored in my session variables are lost. Therefore, it causes an error when the requested page is loaded.

1. I am thinking of using sessionState mode="SqlServer". Will it solve my problem?

Actualy Im working on it but Im having problems when connecting to the sql database.

2.  Is that a problem in the webhost?

3. Do free webhosting sites provide allow session state in the sql server?. Because ive tried it locally into my computer and error say's i should intall the ASP.NET Session State SQL Server version 2.0 or above.

Custom Server Control Property not maintaining state

I have created a server control consisting of a TextArea and a div under it.  My goal is to create my own asp:TextArea type control.  the div is for a Character count of the text area and seems to work ok but i added a CharacterCountVisible property to the control that is always returning true.  See Proptery definition below

<Bindable(False), Category("Appearance"), DefaultValue("True"), Localizable(True)> Property CharacterCountVisible() As Boolean
        Return _CountBoxVisible
    End Get
    Set(ByVal value As Boolean)
        _CountBoxVisible = value
    End Set
End Property

Note the _CountBoxVisible variable is define inside the class as :

Dim _CountBoxVisible as Boolean = True

What I am trying to do is give the user/coder the option to show/utilize the char count feature.  Can make it disappear with textarea1.CharacterCountVisible = False but setting it to true will not make it display.

What am i missing

Upsize Your Database: Convert Your Microsoft Access Application to Take Advantage of SQL Server 7.0

What if you need to convert an existing Microsoft Access 97 database application into a true client-server application that is based on a SQL Server back end? If you know a little about Visual Basic and SQL Server, it's easy to make your app take advantage of the power and scalability provided by SQL Server 7.0. Using some concrete code examples, this article takes you step by step through converting the native Jet queries in your Access application into stored procedures and pass-through queries that SQL Server can use. You'll also learn how to pass on parameters when your client-server app calls these SQL Server stored procedures and queries.
