.NET Framework 4 installs, but .NET4 Applications won't run and verification fails

I have the same problem described in following thread: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/d8601382-83a4-4039-a71b-3b68dcdc6e26 I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate I installed the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and even tried installing the FULL/Extended edition the install appears to go in just fine, no errors or anything. Once I try to run a program it fails to work, I tried to verify my .NET4 installation using this tool... http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx It ALWAYS fails the verification no matter how many times I uninstall/clean up and reinstall... Here is a snippet from the verifier log... .....[07/22/10,17:35:35] Section [Registry - .NET Framework 4 Full (Wow6432Node)] - stop parsing entries [07/22/10,17:35:35] Processing custom action 'Custom Action - .NET Framework 4.0 test application' [07/22/10,17:35:35] ExecutablePath = 'Netfx40TestApplication.exe' [07/22/10,17:35:35] FriendlyName = '.NET Framework 4 test application' [07/22/10,17:35:35] TimeoutSeconds = '300' [07/22/10,17:35:35] WaitOnExit = 'true' [07/22/10,17:35:35] Silent = 'true' [07/22/10,17:35:35] Launching process 'Netfx40TestApplication.exe' now [07/22/10,17:35:35] Process successfully launched. I seem to have the same problem as these good people, http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/58ff584d-e849-49e7-8c17-563296602017 http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/d8601382-83a4-4039-a71b-3b68dcdc6e26 .NET 4 installs (reporting no overt errors).. but will fail verification with this message. .NET 4 applications fail to run. .NET Framework 4 installs, but verification fails and .NET4 Applications will not run.

Hi there

I have read through all of the threads for people who have had the same problems as myself and having followed all of the steps I still have no answer and the problem is still there.

I have uninstalled .net 4 and reinstalled it about 20 times. I have completed this with my anti virus off, as an administrator, after running the .net clean up tool and still have had no luck. Please help!!

This is the section of the log from the .net check program in which it fails:

.NET Framework: Building, Packaging, Deploying, and Administering Applications and Types-Part 2

Part 1 of this series discussed how types built for the common language runtime can be shared among applications in the Microsoft .NET Framework regardless of the .NET languages used to build them. This second part continues with building assemblies by first covering security, sharing assemblies, versioning, localization, and side-by-side execution. Because in .NET two DLLs with the same name can be loaded as long as another attribute-which can include the localization language-differs, versioning is much easier than it used to be, so DLL Hell may become a thing of the past.

.NET Framework: Building, Packaging, Deploying, and Administering Applications and Types

Types that are built for the Common Language Runtime can be shared among applications in the Microsoft .NET Framework no matter which of the .NET languages they were built in, an obvious benefit to developers. This article describes the building, packaging, and deploying of applications and types for the .NET Framework, including the role and significance of assemblies, private and otherwise. The way metadata and assemblies help to solve some historical problems like versioning conflicts and DLL Hell, and how they improve system stability are also discussed.

.net4 TcpClient fails when NetworkStream.ReadTimeout is set

Hi, I have a problem implementing a Read() with timeout. I have a TcpClient obtained via listener: let listener = new TcpListener(IPAddress.Any, 6667) listener.Start() let client = listener.AcceptTcpClient() and I tried this code to have a Read with timeout: let stream = client.GetStream() stream.ReadTimeout <- 5000 try Some(stream.ReadByte()) with _ -> None which works fine. The problem is that, when the timeout happens, client.Connected becomes false !! And that's false because the socket is still alive and I'm still able to Write/Read data through the stream. Also, because client.Connected is false, I'm not able anymore to invoke the GetStream() method. I think this is a big bug, isn't it? Marco --------------------- Edit: I forgot to mention that it happens the same setting either  client.ReceiveTimeout  and/or  stream.ReadTimeout...

Net Framework Install fails

Reviewed the links and unfortunately that did not help. When my DYMO Stamps program stopped working I contacted them and they suggested I remove Net Framework 2x and download/install 3.5. Uninstall of 2x modules was uneventful. When I try to install 3.5 it goes through the whole install procedure and then reports it failed. I do not know where to look for an error log. Now "updates" is permanently in my tray trying to install 3.5. I get the following message: The following updates were not installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and >NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB952847) x86. Operating Windows XP Professional, SP3

ClickOnce deployment fails if .NET Framework isn't installed

Hi,   I have noticed that installation of my application fails in some cases. If the user has .NET Framework installed the installation works. But if it's not installed then Click Once will install it, after asking the user to accept the EULA, installation will complete and the "Install"/"Don't install"-dialog appears. My application is downloaded and then fails with the error message:     Following errors were detected during this operation. * [2010-09-01 15:22:17] System.Deployment.Application.InvalidDeploymentException (ManifestLoad) - Exception occurred loading manifest from file Stoffi.exe: the manifest may not be valid or the file could not be opened. - Source: System.Deployment - Stack trace: at System.Deployment.Application.Manifest.AssemblyManifest.ManifestLoadExceptionHelper(Exception exception, String filePath) at System.Deployment.Application.Manifest.AssemblyManifest.LoadFromInternalManifestFile(String filePath) at System.Deployment.Application.Manifest.AssemblyManifest..ctor(String filePath) at System.Deployment.Application.DownloadManager.ProcessDownloadedFile(Object sender, DownloadEventArgs e) at System.Deployment.Application.FileDownloader.DownloadModifiedEventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, DownloadEventArgs e) at System.Deployment.Application.FileDownloader.OnModified() at System.Deployment.A

.net 4.0 Client Profile installs, Extended fails

After uninstalling all .net versions, I tried to reinstall them. All available versions were installed including .net 4.0 Client Profile but .net 4.0 Extended did not install. Suggestions? The error log was VERY long so here's the summary: Final Result: Installation failed with error code: (0x80070643), "Fatal error during installation.

.Net Framework 2.0 SP1 fails to install with Error 0x641

We have a SBS 2003 server that has automatically installed updates just fine for several years.  Now it is failing to install Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806).  The only error that I can find is Error Code: 0x641The server's C: drive has 5.2 GB free and the other hard drive (D:) has 61 GB free.  It has 2 GB of RAM and a 3GB paging file.I posted this in Microsoft's "Windows Update Newsgroup" and I was told to come here.  I was told to download the collect.exe file to collect the .NET logs, but when I run that, I get the error "No log file exists."I would appreciate your help.

.Net framework 3.5 SP1 application fails to run on .NET framework 4.0.

We have a developed some PowerShell cmdlets in C# using Visual Studio 2008 / .NET framework 3.5 SP1. When we try to execute the cmdlet on a Windows XP or Windows 2003 server that has .NET framework 4.0 installed, we get the following error:

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Core, Version=, Cul

ture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The

system cannot find the file specified.

Note that this machine does NOT have .NET framework 3.5 installed on it. .NET framework 4.0 is directly installed without installing 3.5. I do not see System.Core.dll in the GAC.

On the other hand, if we first install .NET 3.5 and then install .NET 4.0, we do see System.Core in GAC and there are no issues.

Is this expected behavior? Doesn't .NET framework 4.0 installer install all the binaries from 3.5 SP1 as well?

Please advise.

Thanks for your help,

Installation of .NET Framework 2.0 SDK fails with error #1935 (HRESULT 0x800700C1)

I tried to install the .NET Framework 2.0 SDK on Windows 7 Pro x64 since I need some of those tools to localize files. Unfortunately, the installation soon fails with the following error

Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Zip,Version="",Culture="neutral",ProcessorArchitecture="MSIL",FileVersion="8.0.50727.42",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800700C1.

Sometimes, this error appears before the one mentioned above (but not always):

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908.

I have no idea why this happens and I could not find any answer to this problem on the web.

.Net Framework verification issu

I am having trouble installing Turbo Tax 2009. I initially got a 1603 error message. I followed a procedure that the TT technical people suggested the involved uninstalling .net framework 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 sp1. They next suggested an approach to reinstall those .net versions. Once I did that I couldn't get the TT software to verify the .net softwawre. Any suggestions about what might have happened? Is there a sequence that I need to follow in reinstalling the versions and is it necessary for me to have version 1.0 and 1.1 on my system? I have Vista Ulitmate. Thanks I hope you can help me and others that may have the same issue.

PollingDuplexHttpBinding support in the full framework in .NET4

I understand from the previous posts in this forum that the client support for PollingDuplexHttpBinding in previous versions of SL was limited to silverlight clients only.

Is there any change in .NET4 / SL4 in this area for supporting full framework clients? We have a scenario where we need firewall-friendly callbacks to a non-SL client from a WCF web service. If folks have other recommendations for bindings that we could consider, please share.
