Visual Studio .NET: Building Windows Forms Controls and Components with Rich Design-Time Features, P

This is the second of two articles discussing the extremely rich design-time features of the .NET Framework. Part 1 discussed the basics, showing you where to start and how to extend your control implementation through attributes and interfaces, as well as their effects on the property browser, code serialization, and other controls. Part 2 continues the journey by concentrating on design-time functionality that you can implement beyond your components and controls, including TypeConverters, UITypeEditors, and Designers. It would be impossible to cover everything you can do in two short articles, which is a testament to just how all-encompassing and flexible the design-time capability of the .NET Framework is.

Visual Studio .NET: Building Windows Forms Controls and Components with Rich Design-Time Features

Visual Studio .NET provides support for designing rich features into your controls and components, allowing you to set properties, set form placement, inherit from base classes, and much more. So how does Visual Studio .NET do all this? What does the Windows Forms designer do? What's the difference between a control and a component? How does Visual Studio integrate your controls so that they can access features of the .NET Framework? In this article, the authors answer these common questions by building a clock control and taking the reader along for the ride. In building the control, hosts and containers are illustrated, the property browser is explained, debugging is discussed, and a general overview of the design-time infrastructure is presented.

Go International!: Let Your Apps Span the Globe with Windows Forms and Visual Studio .NET

How would an English speaker feel if his car's owner's manual was written in German or if the dash board markings were written in Japanese because the car was manufactured in that country? This is an experience common to computer users all over the world who don't speak English as their primary language, and it's becomming more important. The Microsoft .NET Framework not only makes it possible to build international applications, but many of the tools such as Visual Studio .NET make it quite easy. This article looks at internationalization with .NET and presents real tools you can use to make all of your Windows Forms applications global-ready.

C++ Attributes: Make COM Programming a Breeze with New Feature in Visual Studio .NET

C++ attributes in Visual Studio .NET are used to generate C++ code through attribute providers. Attribute providers generate code for COM classes, and the code is injected by the C++ compiler at compile time. This has the effect of reducing the amount of code that you need to write. In addition, with C++ attributes you no longer need to maintain separate IDL and RGS files, which makes project management simpler. This article explains C++ attributes, the process used by the attribute provider to generate code, and the code that is automatically generated. It also covers how attributes affect the registration process, how attributes can be used to generate code module entry points, and how connection points can be implemented using C++ attributes. Also explained is how these features contribute to the Unified Event Model for the .NET platform.

Delphi Win32 MDI Parent with C# Windows Forms child form

I have created an assembly containing a form that i want created as a MDI child form in a Delphi Win32 application's MDI parent control. I can create the .NET form fine from my Delphi code. I can even use the Delphi window handle to let my .NET form be a child in the Win32 application by using the SetParent API. However minimizing the child form makes it disappear (instead of the regular minimize action for MDI children), and it also doesn't cause the MDI container to get scroll bars when you drag the child form under the edge of the MDI container. I have the feeling that the child form is not yet correctly aware that it is a MDI child. For instance, its MdiParent property is null. And i read somewhere that i might need to call some more Win32 API"s to hook everything up correctly. I can't, however, for the life of me not find which ones to call, and where to do it. Is there anyone here that is well versed in hooking up managed Windows Forms with native Win32 applications that can lend a helping hand?

InfoPath Forms library in visual studio 2010

If I create a list definition of document library type, and add some new fields to the list.  Is there any way to only allow infopath forms to be submitted to the list?  And also can I change the "add new item" link on the default list to point to my infopath form?

Accessing code in InfoPath 2003 forms from Visual Studio 2005

Can vbscript code contained in an InfoPath 2003 form be accessed from VS2005 on a machine running Office 2010? We are testing Office 2010 our our PC's and the custom task pane code that works just fine on PC's running Office/InfoPath 2007 does not run on the test PC's. I've been reading that the vbscript code in the form can't be edited directly when opening the form in InfoPath 2010, but that's not what I'm trying to do. I want to access the vbscript code through the .Extension property of the XDocument object from client side javascript code on an .aspx page like we have done for years. The existing code, which runs perfectly on PC's with Office/InfoPath 2007,  looks like this ... var xDoc = window.external.Window.XDocument; xDoc.Extension.UserLookupDone (userid); When run on PC's with Office/InfoPath 2010 the code throws error "Class doesn't support Automation". Are we trying something that is no longer possible? Any help is appreciated.

My Web Forms can't display Master Page in Visual Studio 2008

I hope somebody help me about this, I created a web site in visual studio 2008, the languaje is C#. After that, I created a master page for my web forms. Using AxSpreadsheet in Windows Form with Visual Studio 2008

Hi. at our company we had a very big Visual Studio 2003 solution which was recently migrated to Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0. Everything works fine, except this one form where we use an AxSpreadsheet control so that the user can manipulate an Excel Spreadsheet directly from the form, and we can programatically access the cells he modifies. We are using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Owc11.AxSpreadsheet, which we already signed in VS2003, and worked perfectly. Now, when I try to open the form in desing time, I get an error that says: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. Of course, I get the same error at runtime.

Any help? Thanks a lot.

Windows form hanging when ran outside of Visual Studio 2010

I have a windows form that starts a background worker to grab data from a database and put it into a datagridview through a bound datatable. So a decent summary would be:

1. Main Thread: Get a load of order numbers

2. Main Thread: Start a background worker

3. Worker Thread: Go through the order numbers, getting order details and putting them in a datatable

3.1 Worker Thread: Call my progresschanged method after each time we put order details into the datatable and force the form to update

And this is all fine. It works as expected. Everything is responsive, all the orders load into the view, etc etc. Program done. However, as soon as I run this outside of Visual Studio (so running the .exe in the debug or release folder) it hangs every time the last time it's going to call progesschanged.

So say there are 50 orders, after getting the details for order 50 and calling progresschanged the main thread locks up instantly. There are no errors reported, there is still free memory in the machine, and it works 100% of the time when running through VS.

I have no idea where to look to fix this.
