Help Required for SP 2010 development!!!

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi Dear all, I am new to SharePonit development but have some .Net development experience and I need to develop a small module for classified application for my Company portal. We also have some other small module with this application so I think by making a one project will be a best approach? Would you like to confirm my steps for SharePoint 2010 development: 1). should I use SharePonit 2010 list for storing data for classified application. I think separate database this is not a solution? 2). should I use webpart instead of InfoPath form for data entry form in which user will enter data? When we should use InfoPath form? Regards, M. Ahmed Hashmi

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

Visual Studio 2010 Shows Blank Page during web development

I just upgraded a web project from VS2008 to VS2010 Ultimate (Windows7 64bit, IE8/Google Chrome. When I run the web project in the development server (by hitting F5) everything acts like it is supposed to except everything comes up blank. Even the directory structure page is blank, just an empty HTML open and close shell. I get no errors no indications of failure, nothing. When I try to use google chrome I get the same blank page no matter where I navigate to, even if I try to navigate to a non-existant location on the dev server. I know the code compiles and acts correctly because I can deploy it to our QA servers without issue. Any ideas?

SharePoint 2010 Cumulative Update - Install sequence - Foundation required or not?

For a SharePoint 2010 Server (not Foundation) environment, is it necessary to install the Foundation Cumulative Update as well as the Server Cumulative Update?  (In the same way that with 2007, you install the WSS update and then the MOSS update) The nearest I have found to an answer is here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint/ff800847.aspx where it says 'We recommend that you always install SharePoint Foundation 2010 patches before installing SharePoint Server 2010 patches. This best practice ensures that you will always be successful when installing updates.'   In this regard, should 2010 Foundation be thought of as a pre-req, or underlying component, for 2010 Server?   The same question applies to the use of the Updates folder in the install media - for a Server install, should we be extracting both the Foundation and Server Cumulative Updates there, for a correct slipstreamed install?   Thanks.   Rob

Missing/Required binary files on one Web-front-end after installed the CU aug 2010 hotfix?

Hi! I have installed the binary files for CU aug 2010 hotfix in a farm with two web-front-ends. In Central Administration you can see that on Web-front-end one (that also is hosting the Central Administration app) the binary files are missing but not on the second Web-Front-End. The installation went fine on both servers with the exception that I had to reboot the Web-Front-end one. When I try to run Psconfig to update my databases I get en error message like this in my command prompt. The upgrade command is invalid or a failure has been encountered. The server farm will not work with missing installs. Add "-cmd installcheck -noi nstallcheck" to the command-line to ignore this warning. The following is missing on web-front-end one: Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) Hotfix for Office (KB2352342) In the event log I get a lot of these errormessages too (EventID 3351): SQL database login for 'SharePoint_Config' on instance 'SqlAliasName' failed. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below. Login failed for user 'Domian\servername (one)$'. The thing is that the files is installed in the filesystems aswell as the dll files in the GAC on both servers. You can´t unistal
