Information Policy options missing?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I've set up a Content Type Hub to allow me to publish content types to all site collections. However, doing this appears to have removed the Information Management Policy Settings link on the settings page for the content type. Does this mean that you can't set IM policy on Published Content Types?

WSS Lists - Lookup field information missing in Excel 2010

Hi, I've got this xls workbook which contains a two-way synchronized SharePoint list. This WSS list contains columns which are related to other lists: for instance the list we're using is a list of assignments, where an assignment is related to an accounting period. Our server also has another list with all accounting periods. Both lists are related since the assignment list as an accounting period column of lookup type which uses the accounting period list as a source. In previous versions of Excel, the output is that the accounting period field is a combobox populated with all availalble accounting periods. Thanks to that, the user can easily link an assignment to an accounting period by selecting a value in this combobox and synchronizing. This works great with Excel 2003 and 2007, however in 2010 (same workbook, consuming the same lists) related information doesn't appear. The combobox is empty and as a consequence the user gets a data validation error since the value in the cell isn't among available values. Is there something special I should do to enable this feature in Excel 2010? Regards, Carl

Information Management Policy - Expiration not working

I've defined a new policy for my list.
The policy has expiration enabled.
The expiration date is WarningDate (required list field - date and time) + 0 days and the expiration should trigger the custom workflow, which would send the warning, but is now only setting the status to Warned.
The workflow works fine when executed manually, but never seems to be actually executed by the item expiration.

I've also updated the "information management policy" job to run every 5 minutes, but it didn't help.
What as I missing?

Missing options on link data sources wizard

First of all I have 2 lists ListA and ListB, ListB is linked to ListA by its ID column and not by a lookup field.

Now, on SPD2007 I just display the data sources library, and choose the create new linked sources option, but in the 2010 version, can't seem to find this option directly, just when I'm using  or have inserted a data source of some sort.

The problem is that when I get to the wizard ( link data sources wizard) I choose both lists, choose to join them, and... that's it!!!! I don't get to choose the filter columns or anything, the only options are 'Back' and 'Finish', so needless to say that I don't get what I want, 'cause it only appears the word 'row' on the child list in the sources library.

I've been serching the web, and some people have posted this same question with no answers found. then I searched this forum, and couldn't find this topic either, so maybe it's just some especific behavior regarding bad installation or something, or its just a Beta problem. please let me know

ItemAdding event receiver has missing lookup information in afterproperties

I am working on a little event receiver for a custom list. I noticed that afterproperties for lookup fields only contain the index but NOT the value of the lookup field. This is only the case for single selection fields. Multiple selection lookup fields will carry all index and value information for all selected fields. This means for multi-selection fields you can use SPFieldLookupValueCollection to iterate and SPFieldLookupValue to access index and value separately. If you try using SPFieldLookupValue on single-select lookup fields, - because the afterproperty is incomplete -  you will receive an error message: Unknown Status Module: 33 Message: 134

The question is: Can this behavior be confirmed and is it limited to the "ItemAdding" event? Thank you very much...

Information Management Policy & Disposition Workflow

I would like to set an information management policy that enbles expiration of documents in my document library. I then want this to kick off a disposition workflow that will then allow the owner of the content (i.e. the last person to modify the document, or creator if it has not been modified) to either delete the document or do nothing. This is all simple to do. My question is: When the disposition workflow kicks off, does it send an email to the document owner or does it simply ceate a task in the specified task list?

If it only creates a task, is it possible to notify the document owner that a task has been created? I don't want docment owners to have to have to keep checking the task list, I want an email sent to them whenever a document is about to expire. Is this possible?

Policy based management missing evaluation modes

For some reason, I only get the on demand and on schedule evaluation modes with my instance of SQL server, what is even more suprising is the fact that i am following a step by step guide and the guide seems to have the on change log only evaluation mode.

Is this a bug or something ?

I am using SQL 2008 SP1 developer edition, I get the same issue even on my standard edition.

C# reading Java/Php/SOAP service, WSDL generated file missing some namespace information

I'm trying to use a Web Service, which I believe is Java/php/SOAP, using C#.
I can connect and send fine, but the results, which are an array of information,
is null. The return is not instant, and I can get back errors.
I believe the problem is in the WSDL translation. The actual response coming back
does not line up with the WSDL generated code in reguards to namespaces. In
perticular, 'getCategoryTreeResponse' & 'getCategoryTreeResult' do not show up
in the generated file.
I'm quite sure the WSDL file provided is poorly written but I have no control
over it. WSDL.exe only works when I pass a saved copy of the web service's
provided WSDL information due to the way it is called.

Information Management Policy & Exempt from Policy flag

Hi all,

does anyone know why the "Information Management Policy" in MOSS sets a 'yes' flag (in the 'exempt from policy' column) on the document library automatically when the specific document expires?

And more importantly is there a way of getting around this?

What I am trying to achieve is a periodic document review schedule without having to create custom workflows in Visual Studio, and preferably sticking with the out of the box approval workflow to ease the rollout of team sites from a site template.

I thought this could be accomplished by using the Information Management Policy on the DL, but I guess not if after the first review date arrives the document is then exempt from any following dates.

Information Management Policy to clean up the Workflow History List?

I have several InfoPath 2007 forms (with workflows) that are heavily used in my MOSS 2007 environment, and the some of the Workflow History lists are very large need to be cleaned up.  I'm trying to use an (Expiration) Information Management Policy to delete items in the Workflow History list that are Last Modified + X days , but haven't had much success.  Has anyone else had success doing this?

Defining information management policy on a library not working

I've created a WF in SPD that generates a task to copy an expired item to a Records Center. The WF works properly.  I then defined an IMP on the library to fire off the WF when the expiration date is reached. But nothing happens. The IMP never fires the WF. Any ideas?

Information Management Policy not triggering SPD workflow

Hi All,

I have a document library with no special fields (i.e. Lookups) and I have created a workflow via SPD to create a task to review the document and send to a Records Center, if necessary. The WF is working properly.

I then set an Information Management Policy on the library through the SharePoint UI following these steps:

1. Define a policy...
2. Policy Statement: This document expires in 1 day (testing)
3. Checked "Enable Expiration ":
The retention period is: Modified + 1 + days
       When the item expires:
Start this workflow: IMP WF Test 2

But the IMP never triggers the workflow.

  • I have checked the "Information Management Policy Configuration" via Central Administration, and "Expiration" is available and set to run daily.
  • I have tried the "Process Expired Items Now" manual option via the CA "Configure Expiration" page.
  • I have tried this with "Require Check Out" enabled and disabled with no success in either case.
  • I have tried this with Publishing features enabled and disabled with no success.
  • I have combed this forum thoroughly looking for similar situations and possible resolutions w

Information Management Policy Settings link not display

I am trying to enable Information Management in Sharepoint  server 2010 but when i go to the Library or List Settings page there is no link to Information Management Policy Settings on the page.

I've been searching for an hour and can find no information to tell me how to enable this option.  Any hints would be appreciated.

How to get more information about the exceptions that can happen in SharePoint 2010 projects?

In case there is an exception anywhere in the SharePoint 2010 project (most common place an exception would happen is during deployment of your SharePoint project, custom deployment configuration or custom deployment steps), there's a registry key EnableDiagnostics available for you to use.

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

What Do the Different Printer Options using Windows Mobile Pocket Pc

Select Printer Options:
bullet Printer: Select the printer to print to. Some printer selections work for a variety of printers, such as the "HP PCL" selection which prints to most Hewlett Packard DeskJet, LaserJet and compatible printers.
bullet Port: Select between Infrared, Bluetooth, Network printing and Serial (COM1-COM8). Most Windows CE devices only have Infrared and COM1 and need special attachments to use the other selections. USB printing and printing across an ActiveSync connection to a desktop printer is not supported.
NOTE: On many Pocket PC devices, you CANNOT use the serial and infrared ports at the same time. This means that if your device is connected to your desktop PC using the serial Sync cable, the Infrared port will not work. You must disconnect the serial connection to use Infrared printing.
bullet Color/Mono: Select Monochrome (Black & White) if your printer is not a color printer (or if you wish to print in mono). If your printer has color capabilities AND has a black ink capability, select "4-Color CMYK". If your printer cannot hold both color ink and black ink at the same time, select "3-Color CMY".
bullet Paper Size: Select paper size for use. You can choose "Custom" and then set special paper sizes in the "Custom Paper" Width and Height boxes. For printers that use "roll" paper, you can set a maximum paper height of 22 inches.

Missing 'new item templates'

 Hi all,

I am a 'newbie' to VWD and I am slowly working through the Basic Walkthrough Help files, and learning plenty along the way.

However, when I tried to create a new database in the LINQ control walkthrough I found that the option to create a new database is missing, and further investigation has found that many other new item templates are missing.

I am using a brand new machine with Windows 7 Ultimate and have enabled IIS and .NET from Control Panel-Programs-Turn Windows Features On-Off. I used the WPI to install all basic elements eg. IIS Components, SQL Server Express.

The only 'new item templates' I have when I right-click the App_Data Folder and choose 'new item' are:-

ADO.NET Data Service

AJAX Enabled WCF Service

Dynamic Data Field

SQL Server Database

Text File

XML File

Does anyone know where I have gone wrong.
