SharePoint 2010 - External RSS feeds with SSL

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I have a secure SharePoint site that i'm trying to bring in RSS feeds that are encrypted with SSL. When trying to do so I get this message: "The requested RSS feed could not be displayed. Please verify the settings and url for this feed. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator." One feed in particular I was trying to bring in was Microsoft's BPOS status feed: https://rss.microsoftonline.com/feeds.aspx?center=default&chan=notifications&lang=en-us Any input would be greatly appreciated. ** Update: eventviewer shows my server not trusting the root authority from Microsoft's cert. An operation failed because the following certificate has validation errors:\n\nSubject Name: CN=*.microsoftonline.com, OU=Microsoft Online, O=Microsoft Corporation, L=Redmond, S=Washington, C=US\nIssuer Name: CN=Microsoft Secure Server Authority, DC=redmond, DC=corp, DC=microsoft, DC=com\nThumbprint: 8146E4D98E96CE9740B9A40BFF7287F8F0C9C7FF\n\nErrors:\n\n The root of the certificate chain is not a trusted root authority.. I'm not sure how to add the root authority for this one. Thank you in advance! Sean

Problems with access to external lists in SharePoint 2010

Our environment is SharePoint 2010 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and SQL server 2008 R2.   We have External lists that access a local database in SharePoint SQL Server. When new lists are added and permissions are given in the SharePoint Central Administration the domain users had to be in the Windows administration group to access the lists.   Recently in the same environment the domain users were removed from Windows Administration user group and could access the external lists.   In another similar test server we found adding the domain users to Windows Administration does not give the new domain users access to External lists.   The inconsistency is the issue. Has anyone seen this issue or provide a possible solution?

External content types are not working in SharePoint 2010 Web Front End in DMZ

I have discovered that my Web Front End server will try to connect directly to the SQL server I have listed in my external content type.  I am able to render the contenct properly on my SharePoint 2010 App server, but when I try to render the list on the DMZ server I receive Cannot connect to the LobSystem (External System).   Is there a way around this?  I would like my Web Front End to connect only to my SharePoint 2010 App tier which has access to all of the databases in my infrastructure.  The Web Front End only has access to the App tier.

SharePoint Designer 2010 External Content Types Data Source Already Exists in Business Data Connecti

I used the Secure Store to create connection in SharePoint 2010 Designer External Content Types Data Source Explorer.  Later I changed some column names in the table.  I deleted the connection from Data Source Explorer and recreated it. I right clicked on the table and selected Create All Operations. When I clicked the Finish button, I got "The system definition with the same name as this data source already exists in the Business Data Connectivity Metadata Store and it refers to a different data source.  Cannot complete operation generation.  Add a connection to this data source with a different name and try again."

I re-created the Secure Store using a different name in SharePoint 2010 Central Administration.  I didn't find the option to choose the connection name in SharePoint 2010 Designer. After I clicked Add Connection, I entered the Database Server and the Database Name, selected Connect with Impersonated Window Identity, entered Secure Store name, and clicked OK. The connection created with the database name as before.

Calendar View for External Data List in SharePoint 2010?

I'd like to create a calendar view from data contained in an External List.  My external content type has a Start Date, End Date, and other calendar fields.  Is this possible using the out of the box BCS?

For extra credit - I'd like to then use this calendar as an overlay on other calendars within my SharePoint 2010 application.

Thanks for your help!

Error Creating External Content Type using Sharepoint Designer 2010

I am trying to create an external content type using Sharepoint Designer 2010. I ran SD on my local machine and connected to a site on some other machine running Sharepoint Server 2010. The Db on which I want to create my ECT resides on my local machine. When I try to use User Identity to connect to my local Db server, it gives me the error that login failed for user <my domain username>. I have both sql server and windows authentication mode login enabled on my sql server. Any help in this regard is appreciated.

Surface data in external lists in Sharepoint Foundation 2010

I have seen numerous articles for the above, but they all just gloss over the step I am having a problem with, assuming nobody will have an issue with it.

I'm trying to create an External Content Type so I can use it to display external data (from SQL Server) in an External List.  When I get to the step to add the connection and the SQL Server connection dialog box appears, I enter the server and database names and click OK with the Connect with User's Identity radio button still selected and I get the error message: login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.  I've tried to read up on the different purposes of the radio buttons on offer on this dialog box but don't know which I should really be using and don't think I can create a target application ID anyway in Foundation (for the other two radio button options) as that has to be done in the secure store services.  Can anybody help with this?

SharePoint 2010 External Content Type and InfoPath 2010 - Numeric data type fields missing in InfoPa

Connected SQL data table to SP 2010 ECT from SQL table.  The SQL table has several fields that have a type of "numeric(3,0)".  The SP 2010 list shows all fields form SQL.  When we open up InfoPath Designer and reference the SP List data (from SQL) all of our numer fields are missing from the available fields list.

I amd going to try another data type but that hardly feels like a solution.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

SharePoint 2010 crawling external websites not working

I have a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Installation on two Windows 2008 R2 Server with an additional SQL 2008 R2 Server also on a Windows 2008 R2 Server. My problem is now that I cannot crawl external websites. Local SharePoint sites and File share are working, only external websites are not working. I have a SharePoint 2007 and also a SharePoint 2008 Search Server Express running on which I can crawl the same websites without problems. I set the DisableLoopbackCheck DWORD on booth server in the registry but this didn’t help. The warring in the evenlog is changing it depends on the crawled URL. Here are the two warrings:

Source: SharePoint Server Search

The start address http://www.exampleurl1.ch cannot be crawled.

Context: Application 'Search_Service_Application_01', Catalog 'Portal_Content'

Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled.   (0x80041205)
