SharePoint Workspace very slow

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi. We are using SharePoint Workspace to connect to SharePoint 2007 (via the old Groove Workspace). We have a document library with 496 Files and 254 Folders mapped to our workspace. But simple actions with Workspace, such as scrolling through the folders, or even just dragging the Workspace window to another part of my desktop causes it to freeze and think for a few seconds before responding again. We have a customer using Workspace with many more files and folders and the delay is far worse to the point it is almost unusable. Has anyone else experienced this issue?Myles Jeffery | Thinkscape | SharePoint Online Deployment | SharePoint Online File Migration Tool

SharePoint Workspace 2010 Crashing

Hello, I recently updgraded to Office 2010.  All applications work as intended, however SharePoint Workspace Crashes everything I try and run it. When I start the app, a dialogue opens up stating that it's creating account..., then the Account Configuration Wizard opens.  If I do anything at this point the app crashes.  I've tried stopping all FW, AV, etc and running the app again.  Same issue.  Any advice would be appreciated! I am running: Windows XP Professional (2002), SP 3 MS Office Professional Plus 2010, Version 14.0.4760.1000 (32-bit)   Thanks!

Meeting Workspace unusable after SharePoint upgrade to 2010

Hello, We recently took a content database from MOSS 2007 and attached it to a SharePoint 2010 farm that uses a different DNS name. Now, there's a user who had a recurring meeting configured in Outlook 2010 with a meeting workspace  who can no longer use the workspace now that it only exists on SharePoint 2010. She tried removing the link to the old workspace from her recurring meeting and adding a new location using the new URL, but she gets a message saying a workspace already exists at the site. Obviously it does, but the meeting in Outlook is the same meeting. Is there any way to re-connect the Outlook meeting with the meeting workspace that exists on the new SharePoint 2010 server? Thanks.

Outlook Meeting changes not being made in linked Sharepoint Meeting Workspace. Why?

Changes made (meeting time and location) in outlook meeting not being reflected in the linked sharepoint meeting workspace.  Sending changes results in emails to attendees being returned as undeliverable and no changes on the sharepoint side. Looking for ideas as to what may be causing the problem.

SQL Server 2008 R2 deploying any version of sharepoint results in extremly slow DB creation

Hello, When installing any version of Sharepoint(2007,2010) during the "Creating Configuration Database" Step it takes over 10 hours to complete.  Then creating a web app takes just as long. and the sites are extreemply slow.  Environment: 1) DB Server - SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 2) Webserver - to host Sharepoint 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 The Servers are on the same network and running with lots of horsepower, disk and memory.  Are there any know issues with this and should we install Cummulative Update 3? Maybe that has a fix.  We exhausted all our options and need justification to apply the CU3 hotfix(s). Thanks for your help.

SharePoint site response very slow

Hi, We have SharePoint web application. We are hosting it on Windows Sever 2008 along with SQL Server 2008. In the development environment the site works very smoothly. When we deployed the same on our live systems the web application because dead slow. It takes 20-30 mins to load a page and it never let anyone login from a Forms authenticated extention. The windows extention seems to be working fairly decent. I have no clue what is making the site go so slow. Thanks.--Oyshik

Disable SharePoint Workspace alert on Windows 7 PC with Norton Firewall Provider.

My wife has a laptop with Windows 7 and Office 2010.  Recently she was playing with some settings on her PC and did something which now causes a "Microsoft SharePoint Workspace" alert to appear when she boots up the machine. She wants this message to go away.  I do not know how to do this, and searching for portions of the alert have lead nowhere.  Here is the exact message. SharePoint Workspace is unable to communicate through your firewall and will run with limited functionality.  To resolve this problem, enable SharePoint workspace as a Windows Firewall exception.  For assistance, contact your Windows administrator. To remedy this, here is what I attempted: Start > Control Panel > View by Small Icons > Windows Firewall This opens a dialog with the caption, "Help protect your computer with Windows Firewall".  Below that, there is an orange box with the notification, "These settings are being managed by vendor application NORTON FIREWALL PROVIDER." Of the half-dozen options that appear in the left navigation panel of that dialog, only 3 are enabled: control panel home, advanced settings, and troubleshoot my network.  The option to "Turn windows firewall on or off" is disabled. We have Norton 360, so I opened that program and chose the "Settings" tab, which displays a Firewall link to

SharePoint Server 2010 - Create Meeting Workspace from Outlook

Does the feature to creat a meeting workspace from Outlook's calendar exist in SharePoint Server 2010?

Issues connecting SharePoint Workspace 2010 with SharePoint 2010

Has anyone tried using sharepoint 2010 client with networksolutions sharepoint 2007 server? i recently updated to office 2010 and also decided to start using sharepoint as it seems to be a great way to get things done with the team i manage internationally. Problem is that when i signed up for the sharepoint server service with network solutions it turns out that they are using sharepoint server 2010. every time i try to connect to the server using sharepoint 2010 from my desktop i get the following error message "sharepoint workspace cannot sync with the specified sharepoint site because its server version is not supported". I'm using office 2010 14.0.4760.1000 (32-bit). Can you guys let me know what i can do (besides downgrading sharepoint 2010 to 2007) to actually connect? surely i don't have to downgrade what i just bought to get this done? Any help appreciated.

SharePoint 2007 Calendar - add an event to a recurring meeting workspace

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone can answer this problem I am having.

Simple Question: Are you able to add an additional event into a recurring event which is linked to a meeting workspace?

Long version:

I create an event in a calendar with the recurrence of every monday for the month. (4 dates lets say)  We have a special meeting to add to the meeting workspace, so I add an additional event in the calendar and try to add this date (15th lets say) to that previous meeting workspace series.

My problem is that the ability to add the new date (15th) to the series doesn't show me any options to add to that previous meeting workspace, I can only create a new meeting workspace.

My colleague who has used SharePoint 2003 at another workplace is 100% sure she could do this, however I am at a loss where SharePoint 2007 allows this functionality.

In a new calendar, I tested this theory by creating 3 events with recurring dates and creating an associated meeting workspace with each of them.  Not once did I get the option to add the event to another meeting workspace.  I added an event with no recurrence with an associated meeting workspace, the very next event could add to that meeting workspace which is what I want except to a recurring meeting workspace.

From my analysis, any event that has a recurring series

Sharepoint Workspace Not Initializing

I recently upgraded my laptop from groove 2007 to Sharepoint Workspace 2010 (along with complete 2010 office pro suite).  I was able to use Sharepoint Workspace for a day or two and it inexplicably stopped working shortly thereafter.  Each time I attempt to start the program the Sharepoint screen comes up and indicates it is starting, then disappears without ever completely initializing.  The only thing I get is a slurping noise and no screen.  I checked the event logs and it never even makes it to the point of writing to the application log.  I also tried to look at the processes while initializing and groove.exe comes up for a second or two and then disappears.  The only thing I can do to get sharepoint to launch is by creating another user account and starting it with that account.  I also tried running groove.exe /clean /all and was able to get back to the create account screen before it bombed out.  Please help!!!  This is also effecting a couple of other folks (but not all) on my team.
