Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi,h I have a four server farm. 1 db server and 3 wfe's. They are not load balanced. the log level is  "verbose".. however, only one wfe is writing logs. I mean, on the first WFE there are 3 log files under 12\logs and there are about 100 gb each. The other WFEs have three logs but they are 10kb  !!! Is this normal?? Why is that happening

Most data-driven Web sites are used as interfaces to collect, process, and summarize information. Reports that summarize the data can be presented to the user in a variety of formats-the most common way is to display the report directly in a Web page.

Office: Relive the Moment by Searching Your IM Logs with Custom Research Services

Often, IM conversations contain important information you'd like to keep and reuse. Fortunately, MSN Messenger 6.2 has a feature to keep a conversation history permanently in XML format. This article shows you how to leverage that conversation history by consolidating IM exchanges so they are indexed, searchable, and ultimately reusable using the Microsoft Office 2003 Research and Reference task pane.

"Content for this URL is excluded by the server because a no-index attribute." in crawl logs

Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

'There is no Web named' in logs

I was wondering if anybody could help me.  When i look at logs in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS i get a lot of errors saying 'There is no Web named'.

For example:-
09/08/2008 09:29:37.17  w3wp.exe (0x1BA0)                        0x296C Windows SharePoint Services    General                        8kh7 High     There is no Web named "/quality/Audit Reports/Forms/AllItems.aspx".

There are no errors in server application event log.  I was hoping to find out what this means and if i should worry about the errors.

Sharing folders under 12\logs

Hi Admins,

I have a general question.  developer team does not have direct access to server. But they frequently need to dig logs for errors. (yes we have a test server but when switched to prod. environment, programs sometimes give errors that are need to be digged in prod)

Is it ok to "share" the folder program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\logs folder, so they can map the Web front End's logs folder to their computers ?

I dont really think it sounds good to make a sharing on production server like this,it is a sort of customization, I need your advices. is there a significant disadvantage that causes "don't!!" for this kind of operation?

Thanks in advance..

Re-run WSS 3.0 Usage Analysis Logs

WSS3.0SP2, 64-bit.

The service which runs and collects the log files for the Usage Analysis report was disabled for some reason. We have it re-activated but the logs for when it was down were not processed. How do we re-process those older logs?

SQL Server Logs too big under Management

Hi, The sqlserver logs ("Current - date","Archive-date"...) is too big to open easily (esp at the time of crisis). Any idea how can I restrict the size of these logs to manageable size so that they can be read immediately? Is there any way to Archive daily logs separately? Thanks Chander

Sharepoint and IIS/Windows Event Logs in a single view

Hi - I'm coinsidering addng sharepoint log reading capabilities into an application I've built for reading windows and IIS logs (for more info http://logenvy.com). I know there are quite a few applications capable of reading sharepoint logs (a number are listed here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/781179/sharepoint-2007-log-viewer). Does anyone think the capability to analyse windows and IIS logs alongside sharepoint logs would be useful, or have any logging requirements not well met by the current set of tools? I'm especially keen to explore useful/interesting data visualizations on top of data logs.

StreamWriter Error: Cannot close stream until all bytes are written.

Hi, I have a testing platform that allows data to be posted to a real time collection system.  It uses the StreamWriter object to send both HTTP and XML formats, It works fine, but there is a new request to submit uploaded files.  This again works fine, unless the files are over 70k (we need to test upto 3MB).  If it is over 70k, the response is the content-length too big.   I have changed it so that the content-length is now set dynamically, dependant on the size of the file uploaded.  However, when the StreamWriter.Close() runs, the execption The request was aborted: The request was canceled. is generated, with the InnerException Cannot close stream until all bytes are written. From what I have found on the web, the solution is use StreamWriter.Flush(), but this code is already in place. Code is as follows:  With WebRequest .Method = "POST" .ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" .PreAuthenticate = False .AuthenticationLevel = Security.AuthenticationLevel.None End With If FileSize > 0 Then WebRequest.ContentLength = FileSize End If Try RequestStream = WebRequest.GetRequestStream() StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(RequestStream) StreamWriter.Write(strDataToPost)

is it possible for a document to be visable in Sharepoint without actually being written to the data

, A client lost files and the database was restored but the files are still missing. Any ideas if it is possible for a document to be visable in SharePoint without being written to the database?

Effect of error logs

Hi, I just came across a situtation where one of my application is trying to connect SQL box and is failing because of permission. It is writing audit failure to the Error log file. Can anyone please explain what would be the effect of this continous writing to error log. Does it affect performance of SQL Server in any ways or if there is a way i can check.Regards, Deven ----------------------------------------- Please vote if you find any of my post helpful.

What topics cover this code that was written in Classic-ASP?

Hey guys,So, I have a very simple bit of ASP on my website currently, which you can check out here:  http://www.marioplanet.com/catalog.aspJust ignore the CSS issue for now! :)Anyway, so, I have a SQL Server table in a database, and I'm pulling some information from it to make a shopping catalog of all my products.I was wondering if there is any need to convert this to ASP.NET, and if I should, as I'm eager to learn how, which topics of ASP.NET does this include?I would assume handling data through a SQL Server Database Table? Also, which ASP.NET framework is best suited for this kind of work?  For the most part, the only ASP.NET code I'm going to be using, is going to be handling data from a database.  Other than a few conditionals and what not.Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Incorrect number of users reported in SharePoint Usage Logs

* See last post - issue appears related to KB 969231 *   It seems SharePoint 2007 usage logging with anonymous access worked in IIS6 but not IIS7. Is there a way to fix it?   Background: The SharePoint Usage logging was working fine (approximately 20,000 hits per day) until the upgrade to a new IIS7 environment. The configuration in both environments is very similar (both Anonymous Access and Windows Authentication are enabled) however the new environment is only showing 600 hits per day.   This forum response from Cornelius J. van Dyk [MVP] suggests that Usage analysis/logging with Anonymous Access doesn't work, however it does work in our old IIS6 environment (a dash "-" is just shown in the usage logs which suggests an anonymous user): http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29823445/sharepoint-doubt-is-there-any-way-to-find-out-how-many-users-have-logged-in-to-the-sharepoint-site.aspx   So I've concluded it's differences in IIS6/IIS7 authentication. Reading articles on the differences (e.g.  single auth pipline instead of two-stage) doesn't highlight any obvious reasons why this wouldn't work.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks,   Peter

SQL 2005 LSBackup_SID transaction logs hung...

Hello folks, I've searched google dry.. I feel as if I am the only one with this issue (hope not)!!.. for some reason my transaction logs stopped generating files via the job LSBackup_sid, i had my log shipping very nicely setup my secondary DB was in (restoring mode) LScopy and LS restore were running quite nicely but not the LSbackup_sid job on the primary simply stopped creating transaction logs to any shared folder I point it to. I have tried to redo all the shipping log process, I have tried pointing it to a different path, i even restored my secondary DR database and brought it up with SAP to see if I can get my trn files back on the primary.. there simply is no error on the LSBackup job it just says running forever: see below   Date,Source,Severity,Step ID,Server,Job Name,Step Name,Notifications,Message,Duration,Sql Severity,Sql Message ID,Operator Emailed,Operator Net sent,Operator Paged,Retries Attempted 09/07/2010 00:22:01,LSBackup_PAB,Unknown,,,LSBackup_PAB,,,In progress,00:00:18.4770000,,,,,, 09/07/2010 00:21:43,LSBackup_PAB,Unknown,1,DBGRPNEW,LSBackup_PAB,Log shipping backup log job step.,,2010-09-07 00:21:48.30 Backing up transaction log.
