Changing the domain pointing for SharePoint installation

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
My client has a SharePoint 2007 installation. As their company is taken over by other company, they no longer want to stay with the existing domain / Active Directory. They have setup a new domain and want to switch over the SharePoint's domain pointing to the new domain. What necessary actions are required to make the switch over possible.Thanks.

Changing AD domain name and keep SharePoint 2010 settings

I currently have a single server with SharePoint  which is inside the aaa.org domain. Due to business requirements they need to change the domain to bbb.org. The main problem that I have is that I need to replace the aaa.org domain which is basically stop it completely and start the bbb.org domain and migrate all users to this domain.

All the settings in SharePoint when installing it, I used users from the aaa.org domain can I change this before the bbb.org domain goes live? What would be the easiest way to "migrate" the users in SharePoint to point to the new domain?

Thank you very much. I don't have too much experience with SharePoint and I need to have a better idea on it before I change anything else.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Moving SharePoint 2007 from Domain to a Workgroup

For development purposes, we have SharePoint 2007 installed on a virtual server (Wind 2003) on a company desktop (Vista Business ed.).  The SharePoint is using Active Directory and company domain. For learning purposes, we want to copy the virtual machine on another Vista machine that is outside the domain and is not using AD:

Question 1 : How can we move the SharePoint from a domain to a Workgroup
Question 2: Is it possible to still be able to use emails (through local installation of Outlook) on the same computer that is not on the domain? If, yes, what are the possibilities (any articles on it? Etc.)?

Custom SharePoint Timer Job doesn't run after changing code and restart timer services.

Hi We are facing an issue that our custom SharePonit Timer Job doesn't run after a changing the code. First, we developed and deployed a timer job. It worked fine for a few days, then we detected a memory leak and killed the OWSTIMER.EXE. (Maybe we should uninstall the timer job and restart the timer services nicely). We fixed the problem, redeployed the fix as a feature (assemblies are re-GACed ...) to our small SharePoint farm (one web server, one services server), restarted the SharePonit Timer Services. Now we can see the time job in Timer Job Definition in Central Admin but the job never runs (Since it doesn't run, the timer job status page doesn't have any info about it). We tried the same process in a dev environment with SharePoint signle box installation. The timer job just works fine. I did some search on Internet and followed some instruction to clear the cache from "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\1d50d73c-9bf1-4444-85a9-910ed050d1bf" by 1. Remove all the xml2. Clear the cache.ini with "1".3. restart the timer services. It still doesn't fix the problem.Please advise what else I can do. I even rename the timer job and redeploy it. It doesn't help. I checked the even log and SharePoing log and couldn't see anything wrong. Our OS is W2K8.         public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)        {

Changing user domain

Hi, We have our sharepoint 2007 entreprise farm importing users from two different AD. Let's say 'potato' and 'orange'. We have mysite creation activated in our farm. We have to change one user from potato to orange. The user domain is not in the mysite url of the user. We have http:\\...\personal\fLastName. Questions: 1- How can I change potato\fLastName to orange\fLastName?    We wante to disable potato\fLastName AD account and then create orange\fLastName.     Does it impact profile AND mysite? 2- What are the impact on document history?   Will I still be able to see what potato\fLastName changed or it will show orange\fLastName? Thanks.

Cannot install Sharepoint Server 2010 "A previous installation has been detected with a license type

I'm trying to upgrade to Team Foundation Server 2010 and Project Server 2010. After getting TFS 2010 and Project Server 2007 to work with WSS 3.0, I started upgrade to Project Server 2010 which requires update to Sharepoint Server 2010 Enterprise. I installed pre-requisites and run "stsadm -o preupgradecheck" which passed everything. When I tried to run the installation I get Setup Warning "A previous installation has been detected with a license type that does not match the install in progress". I thought that my trial licence for Project Server 2007 stopped this so I completely uninstalled WSS 3.0 and restarted the server but the installation still stops with Upgrade window. Any ideas? Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the MYDOMAIN domain. Using ImTheAdmin I installed Sharepoint 2010 on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, as the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user in AD Users and Computers called MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount. Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

Changing an authentication of SharePoint site from SQL-FBA to Active Directory

Hi,      We are using MOSS 2007. I have customized a web application using Custom web part, features and ASPX pages. we have configured SQL-Form based Authentication for this site. I have also used FBA user management functionality from Codeplex. I have created some groups and my application (custom aspx page) is referencing these groups to send an email to specific person as per his role for certail events.        I have a requirement to migrate this set up on other server and change the authentication from SQL-FBA to Active Directory. So if I have to change the Authentication from SQL-FBA to AD then what are the steps I have to follow to make this happen?      I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Patav

Display Full Name in SharePoint instead of Domain\Username

My SharePoint 2010 server started displaying the users with the Domain\Username standard instead of using Full Name (as it did up to yesterday). This in all pages of the sites (persmission settings, document libraries, tasks, etc.) Does anybody knows how to force SharePoint to display users with the "full name" standard? Thank you.Plo

Can't view the SharePoint Site. Explorer won't take domain account

Hi, I'm having issues viewing the SharePoint 2010 Site that I have deployed from any workstation. It seems that my permissions settings have broken - even though I haven't touched them. Whenever http://start/ is visited (the Intranet top site) it asks for credentials. They should have been taken from the User that was logged onto the machine. E.g. NATWIDE\UserA. After entering the credentials, it doesn't accept them, and asks for them again. And again. And then blank page. I'm not receiving the SharePoint "restricted access" page... HOWEVER, when I log into the website via Mozilla Firefox - it appears that the credentials are fine, and it works according to the permissions set for the site from within SharePoint. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening. I'm completely stumped and I can't find a similar issue anywhere else. I have installed a Stand-alone installation of SharePoint 2010 Server Enterprise on Server 2008. The account that installed the SharePoint server and is a FARM Administrator, can't even log in to view the page. Cheers, Stu.
