Problem with Update of Sharepoint Taxonomy Fields in custom developed Content Types

Dear all, we developed an solution on sharepoint 2010 for one of our customers with custom lists and content types with fields from the managed meta data store. As recommended we developed everything in features & solutions so that easy deployment is possible. Adding metadata to the termstore seems to work without problems, but today we stepped over an confusing issue: Our customer changed the default label of an term in the metadata term store, but the label did not change in listviews and detailviews of items in the specific sitecollection. In editview we see the correct label. After searching a while we discovered the connection between the sitecollection and the term store, the hidden Taxonomylist (/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx) in the sitecollection, which seems to map the terms. After testing we discovered that the term/label did also not change in the hidden taxonomy list. The Timerjob “Taxonomy Update Scheduler“ is running hourly with success and we also tried to start the job manually, but the label did not change in the hidden list. Also there are no errors in the logfiles in verbose mode. We also tested to create a managed metadata field manually, put it in a list and after that, changed the label. For whatever reason the update of labels on manually created fields works without a problem. Our lists, content types etc get created pr

Host-named site collections and content deployment jobs (SharePoint 2007 Internet facing Web Sites)

Hi.

I have an editing web application with multiple site collections (only accessible internally on a dedicated port), and I've one public facing web application (on port 80). Now I want to create several host-named site collections in the public facing web application (to limit the number of web apps in the farm), and then use content deployment jobs to push the content from the site collections on the editing web app into these host-named site collections.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
Do you see any issues?

Frode

SharePoint 2007 Content Deployment Word Document URLs being changed

We created an application that leverages on SPExport and SPImport.

We noticed that when we export/import site, the links on the word documents pointing to same application on the target site seems to get truncated url, the url parameters (ie ?param1=a&param2=b) are truncated.

also the host header seems to get updated ie(http://my.shop.com/path1/path2 turns to like (http://hostheader/path1/path2) which is causing broken links.

need some help/advice/ suggestion.

Thanks a lot

Problem with content DB planning SharePoint 2010

Hi Guys

I need to find out what to do regarding planning out content databases. The problem is that I need to design a solution where I would have two different types of content. I want to keep the site collections as simple as possible so I want to use a records centre with two document libraries for each content type.

Now the problem I have is that there is going to be about 8 Site Collections each with up to 8 terrabytes of content I need to store.

This will obviously affect performance. What can I look at here?

SharePoint 2010 Content deployment jobs + Tags & Comments

Hello,

I am facing some technical challenge in SharePoint 2010 while moving content from Authoring to production, here is the scenario.

1. We enabled Socializations features like tagging, rating and commenting on production content (pages).
2. There is a authoring and production environments for authoring and production purposes
3. Content is being moved from Authoring to Production using SharePoint 2010 Content deployment jobs

Now the problem:

Content that is there on the production allows end users to comment, rate, tag. However, when I run content publishing jobs, how rated tagged information will be updated to the updated page.

In our case, pages will be updated with slight changes or new page can be created. For new pages it is not a issue because new social collaboration information can be stored in Social database. However, what happens to modified/updated pages tags, rating and commenting information? How SharePoint 2010 conent deployment jobs handle this issue?

Please let me know resolutions or pointers if someone faced similar problems.

Thanks,
VK

SharePoint 2010 content growth AFTER migration

All,

After upgarding our SP 2007 instance to 2010, our main content db has mysteriously grown to almost double the original size.

Has anyone experienced this and is this due anything particular or flaw in the upgrade process?

Sharepoint 2010 WSP Deployment problem. Can't deploy new files.

We have found a problem with our deployment to a production server that runs Sharepoint 2010 Publishing Site Collection.

We are deploying WSP packaged from Visual Studio to Sharepoint Management Shell. It has worked like a charm in the past. We added a custom masterpage, css files, images and later we successfully added custom page layouts.

I also have SP running locally on my computer and everything works fine with no problem adding new files via deploying Feature. I can add them neatly into a document library or even create new folders from the Elements file.

However the problem arise when I deploy my WSP to the production server. I want to add a few JS files and a XSL file to the Style Library but the files won't get added to the document library. The deployment process goes smooth though with no errors and when I check my feature in Sharepoint Hive, the new files are there on the physical drive! However they won't get added to the virtual Document Library.

I can update existing files like the masterpage and CSS files so the feature that is deployed is working.

My guess is that either it has to do with permission problems or some bug in my code. But I did exactly as we have done before when deploying.

This is how my Elements.xml file looks like:

SharePoint Tutorial - Content Types

SharePoint content types provide users with a way to manage and organize content in a more meaningful way. It's a reusable of settings you want to apply to a particular type of document in a library or item in a list.

Enabling Users to Maintain SharePoint Content

When SharePoint is installed as a corporate intranet, there is a considerable amount of effort involved in maintaining the content to keep the site relevant. As we discussed in the first few parts of this series, SharePoint has many built-in features to reduce the burden on the site administrator.

Some areas of the site usually contain less-dynamic information. Internal memos and corporate policies are common examples of this information. One option for this information is to post these documents in a document library. Documents in a library are often stored in a few different formats: Word, Acrobat (PDF), or HTML. Each of these formats has its drawbacks.

Application Vs. Content Pages in SharePoint

SharePoint has two types of ASPX pages. One type is the application page, also known as a _layout page. The other type of ASPX page is a content page, also known as a site page. Each of these page types is stored in a different location in SharePoint. When developers create custom ASPX pages, they must decide on the page type.

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.
