Logging to database is not working

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Am using Enterprise library 4.0 for logging exceptions to SQL server database. The code is working fine if I run my asp.net application from the Visual studio IDE.However if I publish the site and host it on IIS, then my application is not logging the errors to database.Here is the page load event of my application.Kindly help me in finding out the error.

Thanks in advance

 protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
                //If exception occurs due to unauthorized access
                if ((Request.QueryString["Unauthorized"] != null) && (Request.QueryString["Unauthorized"].Equals("Y")))
                        lblErrorMessage.Text = "You are not authorized to view this page";
                        //Get the user and machine names
                        string strUserName = User.Identity.Name;
                        string strMachineName = System.Environment.MachineName;
                        //Raise Error
                        throw new System.UnauthorizedAccessException("Unauthorized access--User Name:" + strUserName + "--Machine Name:" +

Enterprise Library 3.1 database logging

Im new in using Microsoft Enterprise Library 3.1. Im trying to run database Logging.
I added the required configuration to the web config as mentioned in MSDN library. then I ran the script to generate logging tables and stored procedures.

I changed the formatter template to keep needed data. below is sample of my code

Dim ologEntry As LogEntry = New LogEntry()
        With ologEntry
            .Severity = Diagnostics.TraceEventType.Error
            .Title = "MSEntLib3.1"
            .AppDomainName = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory
            .ProcessName = "TestFunction()"
            .Message = "Informational message"
        End With

I faced an error that there are missing paramters then I modified writeLog stored Procedure to recieve the listed above paramaters, I test it on sql server its working fine, in my web page it doesnt rais an error and not inserting any data to the log table.

Logging Simply Not Working

I have been trying now for hours to get basic logging working in SQL2005 and have had zero luck. I have a very simple package. It consists of one task: abckup a user database. I create a Connection Manager that isa file connection manager. I choose the location of the file and choose "Create File". The directory exists. I'm an administrator on the box in question. In the package I choose "SSIS", go to Logging. I choose the component I want to log for. I add a logging provider for text files and choose the appropriate connection manager. On the details pane, I pick every category, and for each category I pick every event. So regardless, there should be SOMETHING logged. I choose "Save" and give a name for the xml file. I choose okay. I then choose "Save All". I run the package. Nothing is logged. The file never gets created. I haev seen dozens of people having the asme issue and their questions seem to go unanswered. This should be the easiest thing to do, so why is this so difficult to get to work properly? Any help would be appreciated.A. M. Robinson

Database deletion not working when parameter involved

Hi,I have a system in which users can enter records into a database via ajax.  Each user may hold many values in the database, with different pageId and itemId values.  Each user is identified by a GUID set to a cookie.  The system needs to prevent the user from entering two pieces of data with the same pageId and itemId, so I've created a script to do two database updates:Firstly, all records are deleted from the database where the memberGUID, pageId and itemId fields match (i.e. they've already added this item).Secondly, the record is then recreated.It all works brilliantly, except when the GUID value is passed into the delete statement, then I just get a caught exception.So this works: public class UpdateValue { public static string Hello(int pageId, int itemId, string inOut, string period, decimal value) { //Initialise variables and objects string cookie = HttpContext.Current.Request.Cookies["visitorGUID"].Value; inOut = inOut.Substring(0, 1); //Delete value if already present SqlConnection connDel; connDel = new SqlConnection(GlobalSettings.DbDSN); SqlCommand commDel; commDel = new SqlCommand("DELETE FROM budgetData WHERE pageId = @pageId AND itemId = @itemId;", connDel); commDel.Parameters.Add("@pageId", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int); commDel.Parameters["@pageId"].Value = pag

SharePoint 3.0 stop logging after moving database

Hello! Our SP 3.0 logging and Usage Analysis Processing were used to working ok. After we moved database to another server for disk space reason, there is no new log file generated from the date of db moving. The logging settings and Usage Analysis setting are still the same. We tried disable / re-enable logging, it didn't help. From system log, I saw following errors, and then granted the service account all access to "IIS WAMREG admin Service" DCOM Config based on document found in MSDN. It still not help "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application ..." Could someone please share info/knowledge on similar issue and solutions? I really appreciate it! Thank you in advance! John

Enabling logging into Netezza database from SSIS Package

Hi, I am trying to insert log information into netezza db from ssis package. i have used "SSIS log provider for SQL Server" log provider. but i have got the below error message.

Log provider "SSIS log provider for SQL Server"] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Netezza Performance Server"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "ERROR:  'sp_ssis_addlogentry ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?'
error    ^ found "SP_SSIS_ADDLOGENTRY" (at char 1) expecting a keyword".

This provider can be used only to insert log information into SQL server or to any other db as well?.

if not, is there any provider to be used for netezza? or is there any work around to insert logging information into netezza db table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Linked Server for MySQL database not working

Dear All,

I have installed MySQL Database on my local PC (WAMPServer 2.1)
I want to update few tables in my SQL Server (2008) Database from MySQL Database.

To achive this I have created a linked server in SQL Server for MySQL Database using System DSN. Now I can query to all tables from linked server for example:

It reterive few rows and then give error message

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

How to add extra column in Log table of Logging Db and get it working

Hi All,

I have an application with Logging application block but I need to add some extra info to the log table of logging db. Please tell me how to do this as I can add columns to the table,modify the store proc but from code behind how can I get it worked?

Error logging mechanism with SQL CLR in a database

I consider using an error logging mechanism with sql clr, below are the options:

1) a table within the same database - problem: the context connection sometimes causes exception, and difficult to use.

2) a file system file - seems good, except the file path has to be HARD-CODED, Thus, deployment issue when it is changed.

3) Windwos Event log - required more permission and setup ? anyone confirm this?

I want to find out whether or not it is possible to still log into a table after catching exception that is thrown from inside database or inside SQL CLR. Any idea or links will be very much apprieciated.

Any other options?

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.
