File search - Asp.Net 4.0

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hello everybody. I am developing a new project to list files and directories under an specified location on disk. I use normal methods like Directory.GetFiles() to achieve this task but the amount of files is getting very big (> 300000) and the site is becoming terrible slow. I worked with Index server with previous versions of Asp.Net but I was wondering if there is a new way for my website running Asp.Net 4.0. Also I heard something about Index Server is obsolete to achive file listings and search. Is there any new alternative? Many thanks

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

Excel file not showing in search results

We have a strange issue. I have one Excel document (or at least one that I am aware of) that will not show up in search results for content within the document. I can find the document by title just fine, but when I search for words within the document I do not see it. The document was originally a 2003 Excel document and was recently converted to 2007. Other than that there isn't really anything unusual about it (some formatting stuff, but mainly just background colors and whatnot, nothing fancy). The crawl log shows the document was crawled without error. Anyone know anything else I can check on?

Search cannot find contents of the PDF file

I have small SharePoint 2010 Server with 2 servers. Steps I made: 1. I have Downloaded and installed Adobe’s 64-bit PDF iFilter to the Front-End machine 2. I have downloaded Adobe PDF icon and inlucluded to the DOCICON.XML. 3. I have added PDF as supported file type 4. I have restarted IIS 5. I have made full crawl 6. Crawl log showed no errors. All items were succesfully crawled. Results: A) PDF icon displayed b) Search based on PDF document name works fine C) Search based on words inside PDF document is not found. What should I do? Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Search, Version=, Culture=neutral, Pu

Hello, I installed smartpart and I created a usercontrol, single one, and then I want to test the user control before using it in sharepoint, so I created a webpage and dragged the user control, when I press F5, I got this strange error never seen.

 Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Search, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.

I commented the following web.config lines but that didn work

<!--<SafeControl Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint.Search, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.WebControls" TypeName="*" Safe="True" AllowRemoteDesigner="True" />

Search by file Name in advanced search does not return any results

Hi there ,when i search by file name it doesn't return any results . search by other columns return result.

need help on programmatically adding .pdf file type to File Type list in Search Admin

This is easily done in the GUI but how do I program this?

I looked here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms562090(v=office.12).aspx and they just say - Extensions are grouped within an ExtensionCollection object. Use the Create method to specify a new file name extension.

Great but how do I do that - I'm not a coder and I need some pointers

I loaded the sharepoint assemblies:

[System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.Office.Server.Search, Version=, Culture=neutral,

[System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.Sharepoint, Version=, Culture=neutral,

[System.Reflection.Assembly]::Load("Microsoft.Office.Server, Version=, Culture=neutral,

Where do I go from here?

System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Sharepoint.Search

I've done a fair amount of digging on this and have found this post that suggests that its caused by the .dll being marked for AMD and not for ia64.  This error occurred after I linked the new cluster to the existing sharepoint farm prior to migration.  Then started moving project files over and rebuilding for the upcoming new server name.  I've tried copying the .dll from the regular 12 hive into the GAC but it won't make a change to the processor architecture.

Do I need to re-run the configuration wizard or something?  Anyone have an easy fix?  Thanks.

Search Results from File Shares - Respect Permissions?????

I'm curious: If I have SP 2010 Enterprise and I've set it up to crawl and return search results from documents on a file share, will it respect the access permissions that the logged-in user doing the searching has?

I know I have to allow read-only access for the content manager account within SP, but I did not know if it would check access permissions of the user account when returning results.

SharePoint add-on to search Excel file?

I'm looking for an add-on or a way within SharePoint 2010 that allows me to upload a document (XLS, DOC, PDF) and have that kick off a workflow that searches that document for occurences of a specific name.  Essentially, I want Excel's HLOOKUP functionality to be triggered and report back after I upload a doc.

For example:  Let's say I've got a shopping list in Excel with 2 columns - ITEM and PRICE.  I upload SHOPPING LIST to a SP Library.  I want it to then populate a SP List with every occurrence of word 'TOMATO' and the price next to it.

How does one accomplish this?

How can I add a unique search button which looks in a specific file?

I would like to add a search bar to our Sharepoint Site that will allow people to search a specific document (or documents) I have loaded onto our Sharepoint site. Basically, the people will be searching for Account Names and the results will return an Account Manager.

Search DB, Multiple File Groups & Sizing Guidelines?

The following two articles cover the use of a second file group for the Search database however there's no indication of sizing. Are there any guidelines on how large each file group will end-up?

For example, if my Search database is 100GB and I split this out into two file groups will each file group end-up as 50GB each, 60GB in one, 40GB in another, etc...any ideas?

Search string (in txt file) --> Get the string between quotes which comes after it --> Add item in l

Hello :)

I've mentioned my complete objective in the title.

I already know how to find a string, and add a item in listbox.
But so far I kept failing at retreiving the string between the quotes

My txt file looks like this:

List of delicious fruits ( Index 1 "Apple") ( Index 2 "Cherry") ( Index 3 "Banana") (...) (...)

The listbox has to view this :

Apple Cherry Banana

This is how far I got.

public void fruitFinderBlock()
 StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(@"C:\TEST.txt");
 string content = reader.ReadToEnd();
 while (content != null) // while not at end of file
 string Find = "Index";
 if (content == Find)
 string fruitname;

 // TODO assign fruitname to the string between the quotes

File Splitter in .Net

I love to do utility programs in .Net. And this is one of them. As I was playing with JSplit (a free file splitter program), I wondered if I could do it in .Net. The framework supports file operations like reading files in bytes and creating them. It is indeed easy to do file operations in .Net Basics on File operations

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Upload Multiple File using JQuery in asp.net

In this article I have explained how to upload multiple files using file upload control. I have used jQuery plugin for uploading multiple files.

I have also explained how to check for file type, file maximum size limit using jQuery & also using server side validation code.
