FormView with empty Byte Fields

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 02, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I have a FormView with a byte field.  The field is not required and if I don't enter a value, I get an error that the value is not acceptable in a byte field.  I can replace the null value with 0 but I would prefer not to. What is the best way to handle this so that if I do not enter a value in a byte (or int16) field to insert a null value (or whatever they do in the ASP.net).   THanks for your help.

Values in user control fields empty when AutoEventWireup=true ?

As a BizTalk developer I'm trying to build a ASP.NET website so some obvious things might be new to me (so please be gentle). I have a web form and I have a user control on it. This user control contains a panel with some user properties that are to be stored in a database. So far nothing fancy. The user control itself contains a panel and is working fine (all code to retrieve and store the values is working). I used the default settings of creating a user control and one of them was AutoEventWireup=true. This works fine because I also have some dropdown boxes (and other fields) that need to be filled with values from the database and that happens in the Page_load event. The panel specifies the 'DefaultButton' which calls a method when clicked to save the values after the user has changed them. On this click the code of the method is called, I confirmed that, but I found out that the values of my controls on the user control (for example the Textbox control) are empty. As a non-ASP.NET developer I couldn't figure out why. So I changed some settings like AutoEventWireup to false. Off course this resulted in my dropdown boxes no longer to be initially filled, but my surprise was big to find out my controls actually contained the values the user typed in. Logically I need both the values and th

error in MVC2 on empty string form fields which are required: "This property cannot be set to a null

In model I have:[DisplayName("ISBN")] [Required(ErrorMessage = "ISBN is required.")] [StringLength(50, ErrorMessage = "ISBN book must have max {1} chars.")] [DisplayFormat(ConvertEmptyStringToNull = false)] public string isbn { get; set; }But when I submit form with empty field ISBN I have an error - ConstraintException: This property cannot be set to a null value.I have find that other people have the same problem and they say that debbugger in VS2010 works wrong - yes ?http://p2p.wrox.com/book-professional-asp-net-mvc-2/79788-constraintexception-unhandled-user-code.html#post259245http://efreedom.com/Question/1-3129080/Server-Side-Validation-REQUIRED-String-Property-MVC2-Entity-Framework-Workhttp://mvcmusicstore.codeplex.com/workitem/6604

Report Builder returning #Error value in empty fields and working with Date field

Hey guys,

I am trying to build a report using the date field from CRM and only wanting to return the date I am using this expression "=Fields!new_date.Value.ToShortDateString()" but when there is an empty fiel I get #Error. How do I solve this?

Also is there anyway to return the date field with the actual month showing instead of the numerical value? i.e. instead of 1/31/2010 Have it show January 31, 2010 (Doesn't have to be exactly in that format, but want the name value for the month.)

Formview's control collection empty when placed inside an AJAX accordian content pane.

The following problem occurs:

I have an accordian content pane on my page holding a formview. At code behind I can iterate the control collection of the content pane using FindControl and find the actual formview control. However it seems that when a formview is placed inside an accordian pane the formview itself looses it's control collection items.

So my problem is at codebehind I can get the FormView control, but it's control collection is empty, when placed inside an accordian content pane.

Using recursive find control function also doesn't help since there are no more items.

how to access fields on a formview insert template from code behind

I want to access some fields from my formview insertmode.  I am in the code behind and it will not allow me to see them....

any help...

Formview LinqData source not allowing updates

OK, I'm confused.  I've set up a formview with a Linqdata source to allow users to edit records.  When I run it, edit data and submit, it blows up and tells me "Linq datasource6  does not support the Select property when the Delete, Insert or Update operations are enabled."  I googled that warning and saw a couple of posts on this forum saying the problem is the slect statement has to be removed from the Linq data source for it to allow updates.

But if I remove the select statement then how do I show the user specific info on pageload?   plus I thought the two way databind was an advantge of the datasource control.

How to check for null/empty strings on dynamic objects?

What is the proper way to check for null or empty strings on dynamic objects? This is the only solution I've found so far:

if (admin.PasswordHash.GetType() == typeof(DBNull) || admin.PasswordHash == string.Empty)

If the field is null, the object returned is DBNull.Value, but if the field is empty string, it's return as a System.String object. This makes it impossible to do regular "admin.PasswordHash == DBNull.Value" check, as that will fail whenever the field has been set to empty string. Is my example the right (and only) way to go?

http/localhost is empty

I have Win , I install the following

in Internet Information Service->

Web Management Tools (check)

Application Development Features I check (.Net Extensibility, ASP.net, ISAPIExtensions, ISAPIFilterd,  I can see  IIS Manager under my Administrative tool , but when I call

I  can't see the welcome page , what is wrong

thank you!

Create ID (uniqueid?) from two fields when data is entered

I need to create an ID from two fields when they are entered into the db for the first time.  I thought Uniqueidentifer would do this, but it looks like uniqueidentifier is random and i have no control of the process.

My user will enter 4 letters into a column called INIT and 4 numbers into a column called NUMB.  What I would like to do is create an id by combining those fields.

How can I do this?

LINQ with GridView and edit fields

My project includes a grid view which displays information of inventory items (Assets), data is quried from AssetTable. The GridView has a command field to allow editing, below is a description of the tables and how data is displayed

BuildingTable: (BuildingID, BuildingName)

AssetTable: (BuildingID,..,....,....)

ItemTemplate: Using a LINQ query I join the two table and displays in a label control a string which includes BuildingID and BuildingName (5 North Building)

 EditItemTemplate: Using a LINQ query I populate a DropDownList with strings of BuildingID and BuildingName same as above.
Here issue which I need to resolve:
1. ItemTemplate display the correct information (BuildingID BuildingName) but when I switch to EditItemTemplate the pair that is
displayed is the first one on the list, how do I make is scroll to the item which was displayed in the label ?
<asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" >
                    <ControlStyle Wi

FormView -- Parameters and asp:Table

I've already solved this problem to my satisfaction, I just want to know WHY it works this way.

I have a FormView control bound to an ObjectDataSource.  Let's say our data source is a hypothetical table with three columns:  id, name, age.  Why is it that when I use the <asp:Table> element inside of the FormView, the parameter values are not set, but when I use the standard <table> tag, it works fine?

This seems like a .NET problem to me.  I expect the <asp:Table> element to work in the same way as <table> because they are, for all intents and purposes, the same thing.  Am I missing something?

DropDownList within FormView Error

I have a FormView which works find and I have added a new DropDownList within the form which references another table to which I need to select a value,
I have added the dropdownlist2 and setup a new connection string to this, when I run the page I get this error:

Could not find control 'DropDownList2' in ControlParameter 'CurrencyID'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Could not find control 'DropDownList2' in ControlParameter 'CurrencyID'.
any help would be greatly

Empty template support for GridView

Just add the following to support the empty text in the GridView.

protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter writer)
	if (Extender.AdapterEnabled)
		GridView gridView = Control as GridView;
		if (gridView != null)
			if ((gridView.Rows.Count == 0) && !String.IsNullOrEmpty(gridView.EmptyDataText))
				writer.WriteAttribute("class", "AspNet-GridView-Empty");

Example of tag to be added to the css
.NiceGridView .AspNet-GridView div.AspNet-GridView-Empty
	border-width: 1px;
	border-style: solid;
	border-color: #

Cutting Edge: Custom Data Control Fields

In ASP. NET 2. 0, the GridView and DetailsView controls are designed to work together. They don't merely provide complementary services, they also share a number of helper classes and components. The output of the GridView control consists of a sequence of rows, each with a fixed number of columns.
