Error on Upgrade Advisor

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi there, I tried to run Upgrade Advisor on two SQL 2000 servers, but the wizard keeps failing when it reaches 22% while analyzing the Database Engine. I downloaded the latest version, but still receive the same error... Error: "SQL BPA command line has encountered a problem and needs to close" Both servers are Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1 with SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition SP4. Does anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this problem. Thanks!!

2008 R2 Tuning Advisor reports "Error: Exception encountered(DTAEngine)"

I am encountering an error when I try to use the SQL 2008 R2 Database Engine Tuning Advisor. I create a very simple workload (either by right-clicking a query in SSMS or by loading a file), and click Start Analysis.  In the "Consuming Workload" step DTA aborts, and in the message column displays "Error: Exception Encountered(DTAEngine)". When I click on the error message, I get a dialog box with a title of DTAEngine, and a message "Error: Exception encountered". This is a clean test environment (SQL 2008 R2 Data Center Edition 64-bit, on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit, in a VM) against a local database. Any ideas about what the problem is or how to resolve it? Access Denied/The workflow could not copy the item workflow error after Sharepoint 2010 upgrade

We have a sharepoint designer workflow that copies a document from one library to another on the same site.  Before the upgrade to 2007 it worked fine, but now with 2010 it gives an error and cancels the workflow when it gets to the copy list item step.   The error on the workflow page: The workflow could not copy the item. Sandbox Solutions with Web Parts Upgrade Error

I have a Visual Studio Sandbox solution with multiple web parts deployed on the site collection. It seems like I was able to upgrade the solution code without any issues and redeploy. Suddenly I started getting 'Unhandled exception was thrown by the sandboxed code wrapper's Execute method in the partial trust app domain: The type is not registered as safe" error.. Any idea what could cause this issue and how to avoid that in future?

Internal server error after deleting old encryption keys after a database upgrade.

We are in the process of upgrading our current environment from sql server 2005 to 2008R2. Everything goes fine except for SSRS.I have SSRS 2008R2 installed on a seperate machine and it works. We can see the report manager etc. except it's empty of course. I then backup the ReportingServices and ReportingServicesTempDB and transfer them to the new machine. I restore the database and it gets upgraded automatically, no problems there.

Next I go to the configuration manager and change the database SSRS needs to use to the restored DB. At that point I will restore the old encryption keys belonging to that database and as a result I now have 2 servers in my scale out deployment. Seeing as we only need Standard SSRS we get an error saying that Scale out deployment is not supported in this edition(standard) of SSRS.

So what i need to do is delete the source database encryption key. So my name server is named ServerA and my old one is ServerB. I use the rskeymgmt tool to list and delete the old encryption key(ServerB). This way I end up with only 1 server in my instance.

Now when i try to go to the report manager i get the error "An internal error occurred on the report server. See logs for more info". But when i go to my logs it just shows the same message that an error occurred but it doesn't tell me what went wrong.

SP2010 Upgrade Error: Missing Reusable Content Types

During the in-place upgrade from MOSS2007 to SharePoint 2010, I experienced the following issue for numerous site collections.  Even though these were errors, the configuration wizard completed with Errors stating that there were some sites not fully upgraded.

I cannot determine how to resolve this error and complete the content database upgrade.   Thanks in advance.

In the Upgrade-YYYYMMDD-######-##-error.log file, the following details were logged for about 15 different site collections:

MOSS 2007 SP 2 upgrade error

Following installation of WSS3 and MOSS2007 SP2 upgrade and during the PSCONFIG tool, at step 8 of 9, I get the below.

Failed to start service SPSearchServiceInstance on this server after completing upgrade. Please start it manual

The search service is set to disabled, so I change it to automatic and the service starts straight away. I let the the PSCONFIG tool sit there and a couple of minutes later, it makes it till the end and states that it failed to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies. I have restarted the server and re-run the psconfig. It runs through ok but still reports that it failed to upgrade.

I have another WFE that isn't servicing clients but has the web applications and search role on it, which doesn't currently have the SP2 binaries. Could that be causing the problem?

I get the below section in the upgrade log.

Checkin.aspx fthrows error in live - not un dev - after visual upgrade

Dear all,

I made a cusomized masterpage in dev - based on the starter master pages of randy drisgill. They worked fine there. Used SP2010 designer export and import to live. Although I dont see them in SP designer, I see them in the MP gallery. Also tried dragging them in the library while in SP designer, no luck.

I go over to the master page gallery on the live and try to check the new masterpages in, no such luck, an error. I check out blackband, try to check it in, same error. So it seems to have nothing to do with the masterpage i'm trying to check in. The SP2010 machine is an in-place upgrade. Which worked fine - after a visual upgrade  though nothing seems to want to checkin anymore - also not on other libraries. This though was not the case in dev after visual upgrade.

Have a look at the ULS log here : http://twitpic.com/2vn3k2/full

I will revert to version 3 of the UI with powershell - but do hope to get to version 4 eventually.

Thanks for any tips

Upgrade Advisor SQL2008 - Profile Trace Files

I am not sure if the Upgrade Advisor is paying any attention to my Profile Trace.

I have created a Profile Trace against a SQL2000 instance using SQL2000 Profiler, and the SQLProfilerTSQL_Replay template.

I ran the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor  and got it to analyse the trace file.

I am just not sure the 'Advisor' is actually doing anything with the trace file, because the only 'progress action' that is performed is: 'Analyse SQL Server', which is always run, even when you don't specify the trace file.

Is that all I am supposed to see, or should their be an extra 'Progress Action' (and report) for the Trace File analysis.

Appreciate your help with this.
