SELECT name FROM sys.assemblies, to DROP all assemblies?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 01, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Is there a way using SQL for us to run a SELECT name FROM sys.assemblies WHERE LEFT(name,10) = 'SomePrefix'  /* for example */ ? We install various assemblies and they are all named with a special prefix string to help identify them as ours. I want to write some SQL that can find all of these and drop each assembly. This is an SQL question I guess, and I am no expert on SQL. Cap'n

Mixed Mode application suddenly stops loading assemblies

I have a mixed modes application that will occasionally stop executing managed code assemblies after a Windows update. This has been occurring for over a month now so I have not been able to identify any particular update as the problem. We see the problem predominately on XPSP3 but have also seen several times on Vista and once or twice on 7. On a machine that stops working the Fusion log will show a file not found error on the last assembly loaded. LOG: This bind starts in default load context. LOG: No application configuration file found. LOG: Using machine configuration file from c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config. LOG: Post-policy reference: AProvider.Data.SqlClient.resources, Version=, Culture=en, PublicKeyToken=c84cd5c63851e072 LOG: The same bind was seen before, and was failed with hr = 0x80070002. ERR: Unrecoverable error occurred during pre-download check (hr = 0x80070002). If I delete this assembly, the application will run although not correctly since the data layer has been removed but it does execute as expected instead of hanging. If we run Procmon and watch the probes the correct folders are searched and the images show as loading. But execution fails, either the application hangs or exits. If we move the assemblies to a 'special' folder such as Program Files or Documents, regasm the p

Mixed Mode assemblies

Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to make the compiler package a mixed-mode assembly?  Specifically:I have a piece of non-trivial C code maintained externally.  I would like to compile that and distribute it with a managed wrapper in a single assembly.  Im looking at the build files for a project which does something similar but right now im at a loss as to how to set this up.

WCF Multiple Custom Assemblies in IIS7

Hi, I have a WCF service library that references a few sub-assemblies.  As an example, I have a service layer assembly and a business layer assembly.  When I attempt to deploy into an IIS 7 host, I keep getting the error: assembly 'business layer' could not be loaded.  Both the assemblies are in the bin directory and neither are in the GAC.  I'm trying to avoid introducing them there.  Is there somewhere in IIS or the web.config that I could update to tell it where to load the sub-assemblies? Please note that as a test, when I took out the reference to the business layer, the service compiled and was consumed by a test client successfully. Thanks, Kyle

External Code Assemblies, Report Subscriptions, and configuration files

I've got a report that relies on a very small external assembly for data for one of its fields.  That assembly, in turn, relies on some values from System.Configuration for portions of its work. I have the configuration keys and values running fine in the web interface, set up in web.config, but when users set up subscriptions for the report it runs fine but doesn't retrieve the configuration values from web.config (as expected) nor does it retrieve them from rsreportserver.config, where I have tried them in the root of the config file as <add key=... /> entries and also by wrapping them inside an <appSettings /> node.  I have also tried them in an appropriately-name config file in the bin directory.  In all cases the report is fine except the field that relies on the external assembly, where I recieve an error indicating that there's missing information (the config vals are used in a String.Format() call): Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format at System.String.Format(IFormatProvider provider, String format, Object[] args) at ExternalDBFunctions.ExternalSelectors.GetNotificationStati(String NotificationID) mscorlib When I remove the config values from the web.config, the web interface shows exactly the same error. Where should these configuration values go?

NULL label doesn't appear on drop down or multi-select parameter.

Hi, I am using SSRS 2005 SP3. I have the following query that I use for my parameter: SELECT 0 AS c1, 'NOT Specified' AS c2 UNION SELECT 1 AS c1, NULL AS c2 UNION SELECT 2 AS c1, 'Test 1' AS c2 UNION SELECT 3 AS c1, 'Test 2' AS c2 Let's call my parameter prm1. The type of prm1 is string and it has "Allow null value" and "Allow blank value" options ticked. C1 is the value field and C2 is the label field for prm1. When I preview the report, and I didn't see NULL in my drop down list,  but that record has been shown as 1 (which is the value). I am wondering if this is a normal behavior of SSRS? It's not a big deal. I can replace NULL with something else, but I am just curious. Cheers, Uzzie

Cannot select 'SQL Server Compact Edition' from Server Type drop down

I have seen this issue addressed for SQL Server 2005 but not 2008. I have installed these components:SQL Server 2008 (Browser, Management Objects, Native Client, Policies and Setup Support Files)SQL Server Compact 3.5 (for Devies, Server Tools and SP1)In the SQL Server Management Studio, on the Connect to Server dialog, the "Server Type" drop down list is disabled and "Database engine" is the default. Does anyone know what I need to do to make "SQL Server Compact Edition" a choice in the "Server Type" drop down list?

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts and related assemblies to develop custom ssis task are missing

Hi All, I tried to develop a simple ssis task but the problem that I can't refer the necessary assemblies like Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime And also Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap Microsoft.Sqlserver.DTSRuntimeWrap Microsoft.Sqlserver.ManagedDTS Microsoft.SqlServer.PipelineHost What is certan that they aren't installed within the GAC in my case, so where could I find them? I have SQL server 2008 entrprise edition Other question, should I use Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Design and  Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS which are missed too, or they are part of the 2005 version only Thank you   The complexity resides in the simplicity
